Pulp – Something Changed Lyrics 21 years ago
I love the first line of this song. It's pretty self-explanatory, and unlike a lot of Pulp songs, it's a straight up-and-down ode to love, which is either disappointing next to the rest of the band's work, or a refreshing change, depending on your mood.

Hum – If You Are To Bloom Lyrics 21 years ago
I always used to just read this as a really awesome love song, but LX's interpretation made me rethink that. That really makes sense, especially if you add in the "fading/failing green eyes" (I can never figure out which it is). Whichever way, these lyrics are great. I just wish I could buy Hum albums in shops in this country, rather than having to order them online.

Bright Eyes – Oh, You Are the Roots That Sleep Beneath My Feet and Hold the Earth in Place Lyrics 21 years ago
I think it's about an old relationship that the guy keeps looking back on and idealising, hence "try hard not to be annoyed/by all these people worrying about me.../...it's my hidden hope that you are still among them." Because the relationship's finished, his hope has to be 'hidden', and he can't come out and say, "Do you still care about me?"

Other lines, like "The water runs away", suggest that it's over, too. But he wishes it wasn't, and he really wants to get back with her - "And we share a name/on some picturesque grave."

Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics 21 years ago
This song seems pretty easy to interpret (unlike a lot of Bright Eyes stuff). Guy's fed up. Guy goes to club, picks up chick, gets high, has meaningless sex, then realises he actually likes her, but is worried because of the general fucked-up nature of love. However, he decides he doesn't care and asks her to love him anyhow. "Love's just an excuse to get hurt/and to hurt...so hurt me" can be read as 'go out with me' line.

One of the best songs I've heard for evoking one-night stand feelings, though, particularly with the "I asked your name, you asked the time" line.
