i think its about a bit of everything.just the devices ppl use when they're unhappy. its quite a depressing song because it sounds like hes trying to connect with someone but they've both got so many problems that they might as well just try to drown their sorrow with drugs/alcohol etc. instead of showing their real feelings for one another. |

this is my favorite song on the album. i like the fast pace and the sort of imploring/pleading style of the lyrics. im not really sure wat the song is about but its like hes trying to get someone to understand him and how it is to feel the way he does but at the same time he doesnt want sympathy (unless its in the form of sex.)---great song!! |

i agree that the whole christ thing is an analogy. this song has a really good beat...as do all their songs. this one just seems like a guy is sort of idolizing a girl...when really shes not that special, and hes torn himself apart because he wants her so badly but shes not even worth it. |

when i first heard this song it was quite captivating. it sounds a bit country at the beginning,which for john mayer isnt far-fetched. i find this song very sweet and soft.Its a nice love song. It makes me think of a calm-rainy day. and as for the womanizing comment, some of his songs do contain sexuality but in a tasteful way...unlike most artists in this day and age. |

this is a really powerful and striking song.It fast became one of my faves.I haven't seen the video yet,i would like to, but i think i would agree that it is about almost like a split personality.She's a different person for everyone else,just so they will accept and adore her,but she has betrayed who she really is and the fake she has created is not real and cant save her from the ridicule and harshness of the real world.She knows the truth,that its all a lie and she hates herself for it and in the end she will just end up looking like a fool. |

I think this song is about the person being extremely wounded emotionally and she has metaphorical wounds and her body just wants to give up because the pain is too much to bare, so she tries to take her own life,and in her dying moment she is pleading to god to forgive her and bandage her wounds(inside). She is screaming out to him and wondering if he is still there or if he has forsaken her.she wants to know if she will meet god on the other side as it says or if she will be forgotten(pretty self explanitory), and thats what i think this song is about. This song is awesome! the words and the feeling of the song just really get to you. |

a friend recommended this song to me and at first i was like mehh...but then i kept listening to it and it grew on me..its so dark but yet just so raw and realistic..i mean sex is "glorified" as being sumthing so great in our society and guyz are manly if they do it...but thats not the truth, and thats not wat its about.i think in this song there is a struggle on both sides of the relationship,he wants to take it slow cuz he loves her,and he thinks she is just in it for sex,but i think maybe the girl is also very doubtful and insecure and thinks that maybe she should because hes a really good guy and she wants to keep him and figures that maybe thats what he expects of her....but thats just my view!
