Sara Bareilles – Bottle It Up Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is definitely about the record company telling Sarah what to write, and Sarah being against it because it's not really her. The record label wants Sarah to "bottle it [her true emotions] up" and instead sing what they want her to sing because they know that it will be popular and "girls across the nation will eat this up". But Sarah wants to sing from her heart because love is the whole reason she's a singer in the first place, and she knows that "soon as you start to make room for the parts That aren't you it gets harder to bloom in a garden of love".

The stanzas that begin with "there are girls across the nation" and "we can understand the sentiment" are what the record label is saying, and the rest of the song is Sarah talking back to them. You can tell it is a conversation because in the music video Sarah's voice and facial features switch back and forth between being herself and mocking the record company.

The last stanza ("started as a flicker meant to be a flame") is about Bareilles trying to stand on her own two feet and write her own music. The record company's restraints are keeping her a baby and keeping her inner flame (heart) from growing properly. So instead of trying to make "happy" songs and "better" songs that they want her to write, Sarah will just sing the songs she loves.

"Chuckie" is a movie about a possessed doll who kills little children. The satanic doll just won't die.
