try this: think of high school. (assuming you're graduated. i graduated c/o 02) think of everything you thought you knew. everything you thought you'd turn out to be, every goal you thought you'd reach. every plan you thought would work. look at everyone you hung out with, and some that you might not have known too well. where did you think you'd be in two years? five? ten? now. how many "truths" weren't so true? and how many plans didn't go quite right? i've lived twenty lives since high school. but when i think of where i thought i'd be, i'm blown away. when i look back on all my plans, i'm shocked. when i look around at everyone and everything that's changed, it makes me cry. it took a while to accept this change. it was like, who the hell am i now, and what happened to me? this song is about reflecting on that, and then being able to face the changes and be happy the way things turned out. despite the mistakes and changes. it's the epiphany that comes after the inability to grasp all the changes. and it's the instability that comes with knowing that tomorrow you might wake up and not be able to accept things like you can in this perfect moment in time. |

ever had a guy (or girl, if you're a guy) try to convince you of exactly how special you are? and you wouldn't believe him/her. this song is like that. it's like he's trying to convince her of how special she is, because she's making it really hard for him. he wants to be with her, but she's being hard to get. she makes all the rules "dancing around in your world of play." also, perhaps the reason that she won't be with him is that she's been in a really controlling relationhsip. "i will let you be." she's freaking cool, and he just wants the chance to show her, but she's making it difficult for him. not that she's not giving him a chance, she's just hesitant. she wants to trust him, and he's letting her know she can. she's trying to convince him of why she can't be with him, but he's saying that nothing she throws at him is enough to convince him that it won't work. "you're bringing up times i can't recall and i'm sure they make your point but i just don't want to remember" |

| anyone considered that it's about anorexia? ANNA really being ANA. there are several comments about a fatal disease, etc. umm...ana, anyone? i know because i have an eating disorder. anorexia is an unhealthy state of mind. a lot of us refer to "ana" and "mia" as though they are people. we personify them because our disease overcomes us. when i fall into my habit of restriction, i blame "ana". one visit to a pro ana site will clear up the whole song. not that i recommend that to anyone. i'm just saying | |
