This song, I feel, is actually "the alcohol" speaking to him... It doesn't necessarily have to be alcohol, just whatever your vice is... But the last verse explains my theory... The alcohol is telling him he doesn't have what he needs... The one who loves him does, he needs to go back to them instead of the alcohol... By far the best 3eb song, SJ is one hell of a lyricist as well as songwriter... |

WOW... ragnarok628, I just read "The Dead" after reading your post, and you are absolutely correct, and if not, Dustin was subliminally affected by the story... Every line in this song draws parallels to the story... The poem and song are loosely about dying for something you truly love... The line "His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead..." in the story can be directly correlated with the song's chorus... After reading the story and hearing the song, you understand both the song and story so much more... They are both beautiful... |

Actually I believe tbushmoney is dead on... I believe Dustin is wondering if he is really making an impact on the world, or just making music for his own gratification... There are a lot of artists out there who don't have a lot of heart in their music, not to take away anything from their talent but they are "sleight of hand" musicians, nothing but smoke and mirrors, and he wants to be an artist you relate to, one you can feel is "giving everything (he has)"... He doesn't want to be one of those self-indulgent Eddie Van Halen rockstars, but more like a Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash... |

you told me anybody else..." is supposed to be "that's until the day you showed me, you don't need anybody else..." |

wow, rusty, you are as dumb as your tagname suggests... foxonestudios is absolutely right... and as a fellow musician, i can tell you that if i had ever worked half as hard as the guys in finch, then I would want to be paid too... music is a business, do you think epitaph would have stayed in the game if they used no promotion to back their bands... promo takes time, people, and materials... all require money... so to say that the only ones that are in it for the money are the horrible boy and girl bands out there is simply foolish. i know that most indie labels are started for the love of the music, but in order to keep doing what you do, you need money... you are an idiot... as far as finch is concerned, I have been a finch fan for a couple of years and think that the new album kicks the old one in the teeth... production is better, songs are better, overall a better album... finch rocks! |
