**I forgot, in the CD it mentions being dedicated to someone who I interpret to be literally a baby... I'm sry... I don't have it with me, but doesn't it say something about a six-week year old that inspired her??? It made me wonder. That much I remember. It made me wonder if myabe something happened (bad, that is) to the baby. But then, I doubt it. The song has such a happy feeling about it. |

Oooo, dandy. I get to be the first to comment! "Baby, baby The stars are shining for you And just like me I'm sure that they adore you. " ^Luv these lines. I'm partial to anything mentioning the stars... awwww I think the meaning of the song is fairly obvious... when viewed in the sense that she's so in love with the guy she's with... and can't believe that he's hers. And the beat is so up-beat, and friendly. |

What about a blind date? This could be the subject of the song.... I mean, he's obviously observing the people around him ("inline skaters"), almost as if he's waiting for something... and then- he sings "Beauty so unavoidable, everywhere you turn it's there. I sit and wonder what am I doing here?" Could this hint at feeling of anxiety? That feeling of 'oh, so-and-so's not gonna like me... i'm so ugly'? Or, 'gee, i feel so out of place here...' And then the chorus... Maybe the "couple" met each other over the internet (i know that's pushing it as this song is a few yrs old..... but hey? why not?!), or thru letters, thru a friend, i don't know. just obviously not face-to-face. and have only talked on the phone, as if to imply 'hey, look it- i sound one way on the phone, i could be this, this, and this. and u wouldn't know the truth, would u?'' Its like he likes the concept of being "anonymous" or faceless even. no one can truly judge him this way. I know chances are that this is not at all what this song was written for or about... but i luv how song interpretation is open. I luv how so many lyrics can take on 'double-meanings'. |

Great summer song. Great song to cry to, for me. There was a time when EVERYTIME i heard it... the waterworks came pouring down. Then I fell in luv with the lyrics... and made myself listen to it on my cd so many times that i became calloused to it... not really. Everytime i hear it on the radio, i get teared up. Its phenomenal. I can see it as a song about first love. Awwww, it's stellar. Very reminisscent..... one of Sting's best !!! |

This song is just excellent. I always liked it, but only recently have I fully realized its meaning, well, at least, in my own eyes...! Its about feeling lost, unloved, unaappreciated... u fill in the blanks. The list goes on. Its about having a bad day, a bad series of days, weeks, months... time is irrelevent. You feel like u can relate to no one... and you're dreaming of the one who will be able to relate to u... AND understand u. Your soulmate. "I would fly to the moon and back... if you'll be my baby." I think 'to the moon and back' implies happiness.... elation, rather. U'll feel rejuvenated, motivated... like u could run a marathon type of thing... All u need is to be able to relate to somebody. I dunno. That doesn't sound quite like I wanted it to, but then again, getting your thoughts out is never how u picture it to be. |
