Ween – Transdermal Celebration Lyrics 20 years ago
Looking at Ween's past songs ("Flies On My Dick" anyone?), I have a hard time believing this has any relation to god whatsoever. I don't think it's about drugs, either, but I do think there's some reference to the end of the world in there.

Green Day – Wake Me Up When September Ends Lyrics 21 years ago
Alright, just because the song has September in the title doesn't mean it's automatically about 9-11. The political aspects of the CD criticize the lack of intelligence in our "great" nation. It doesn't have to do with 9-11. I guess anyone can interpret it any way they want, but with the line "Like my father's come to pass", it kinda seals the whole "it's about his dad dying" theory. There aren't any subtle references to 9-11 anywhere. When your dad dies while you're still young, that's a loss of innocence. The man you idolized and looked up to is no longer in your life. That's enough to destroy anyone's innocence. Everything else said in the song sounds pretty much in direct reference to Billie, rather than people who lost family in 9-11.

The Decemberists – Los Angeles, I'm Yours Lyrics 21 years ago
Yes! Thank you! I've just recently started listening to The Decemberists, and I was disappointed that this song wasn't added. A week later, here it is. Perfect timing, albeit a bit eerie.

As for the song, it sounds like it's addressing the things LA is notorious for.

Slutty girls
"Oh ladies, pleasant and demure
Sallow-cheeked and sure
I can see your undies
And all the boys you drag about
An empty fellow found
From Saturdays to Mondays"

Drug dealers
"But oh, the smell of burnt cocaine "

As the song progresses, it sounds like he's getting more and more sick of LA. Especially the line "How I abhor this place".

Note: The opinions expressed in this comment do not necessarily reflect my opinion of, or people from, LA.:-D

The Ataris – Elvis Was A Skinhead Lyrics 21 years ago
Are these lyrics really from The Ataris? I can't find any proof (i.e. CDs, EPs, b-sides) that it's their song and it really doesn't sound like something they would sing. Often, people will put songs by a band no one knows of in a fileshare program (such as Kazaa) and say it's by a more popular group just because they sound alike. I'm not saying it isn't them, it just seems a tad off.

Finch – What It Is To Burn Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm sorry, but not every song has an underlining suicide meaning. I guess anyone can get any message from any song, but every song I look at meanings for always has someone who says something about suicide. Just by looking at the lyrics and listening to the song, it's obvious it has nothing to do with suicide. But I don't want to sound like an a-hole, so I'll end it there. Anyway, it's pretty obvious the song is about having a terrible life and meeting someone who can cope with you.

Green Day – Brain Stew Lyrics 21 years ago
I don't do drugs of any kind, nor can I fully relate to this song, but Billie said in an interview once that he's high when he writes most of his songs. There's a chance the song is drug-related. But who really cares? The song's good, whether it's about stoners or straight-up insomnia.

The Ataris – You Need A Hug Lyrics 21 years ago
Heh. Forgottensoul beat me to it. Anyway, yeah. I think it's more of a playful jab than an actual insult. Mainly because while he isn't insane (or at least not as insane as Ted Nugent), he is kinda crazy. And not really the kind of person you want as a father. I'm pretty sure the song is just about friends who go postal on you because their day sucked. I doubt the Ataris (who are semi-emo, whether you want to believe it or not) would go after other emo bands.

The Ataris – Summer '79 Lyrics 21 years ago
He was born in '79, actually. While I really like this song, the false nostalgia of growing up at a time when he wasn't even capable of concious thought kinda throws it off. T&C's interpretation could be right, though. Maybe it's just a song about how he wishes he were around back then.

Custom – Streets Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is one of the main reasons I even found this site. I was wondering what it was all about, searched around for about an hour, and ended up here. Since no one else has given thoughts on a meaning, I think it could have two meanings. The more straight-forward, logical meaning is that he lost a girl, and the shouting parts (STEP UP! I SAID STEP UP, YOU HEAR ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU?!) is a voice in his head telling him to stop moping. The more far-fetched, crazy meaning is that it's about a hitman who falls in love with the girl he's hired to kill (they sent you the money, her address and the day, and the usual instructions
to blow the mark away). Hard to say, though. Really weird lyrics.
