| Pearl Jam – Severed Hand Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"This is a song about psychotropics" - Eddie Vedder I think this song expresses the band's views on drugs, that they should be legal if used respobsibly ("If i don't lose control/explore and not explode/a preternatural other plane/with the power to maintain") It also explains how drugs can help you see things from a different perspective and help you understand and grow as a person (when used responsibly and in moderation) "like a tear in all we know, once dissolved wer are free to grow" |

| Pearl Jam – Faithfull Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The song name is 'Faithfull', not 'Faithful'. Eddie is probably saying how religious people are full of it (an idea also presented in the song '1/2 Full' on Riot Act.) | |
| Pearl Jam – Letter to the Dead Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| That's because it's the same song. The original title for the song was "Sad (letter to the dead)". | |
| Pearl Jam – Sad Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| 'Other Side' as mentioned above is about the relationship between Jeff's parents, mainly focusing on his dad I think. So this is about his mom I guess? And Jeff Ament was never married. Ed was married and divorced, Matt Cameron is currently married. | |
| Pearl Jam – Even Flow Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
There is a radio remix of Even Flow. At the beginning Ed says "WAH" and then "huh!". At the end he says "I died, I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched me. I died and you walked by and said no, I'm dead." There is a different solo, and the audio quality is boosted a lot. It can be found on Pearl Jam's rearviewmirror greatest hits cd. There is also a bench somewhere in Seattle (where Pearl Jam is located) that has inscribed on it "Even Flow: not so even. Your next paycheck could be your last." |

| Pearl Jam – Olympic Platinum Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song makes me crack up every time I hear it, the way Ed just runs on.. no clue what they were thinking when they wrote it. | |
| Pearl Jam – Immortality Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
To anyone who thinks this song is about Kurt Cobain: "In an interview with the LA times in Nov. 1994, Eddie has said that Immortality was not about Kurt Cobain. The song did have different lyrics when PJ started playing it during the spring 94 tour than the final version on Vitalogy. And yes during the Atlanta 4/3/94 show (the live broadcast one) Eddie did mention that he hoped Kurt was ok. (This was the period after KC's overdose in Rome and when he was missing) Sadly enough, Kurt Cobain died a few days after this broadcast." Taken from theskyiscrape.com |

| Pearl Jam – Brother Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| As far as the actual meaning, its a very shallow song. Probably about teen rage and tension between brothers. It could also be a metaphor for Big Brother, which would be a totally different meaning. | |
| Pearl Jam – Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Ah, stupid me. Pitface: they didn't put it on Riot Act because they thought it didn't fit well with the rest of the songs. This is the case for most b-sides. I think the first half of this song is about losing hope, and relying on drugs ('I am loaded told that all's for naught'). The second half is about gaining hope ('One day the symptoms fade, I think I'll throw these pills away') A very simple and great song. Not their best but its one of my favorite to jam to on guitar. |

| Pearl Jam – Thin Air Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Yes, Ed did get divorced. But Stone wrote this song, so what's your point? | |
| Nirvana – Breed Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think the 'she said' part is suggesting that a girl told a guy that she was pregnant with his baby. 'We don't have to breed' is pretty obvious. Infact, in most species, most of the animals don't reproduce, and we have dumb rednecks having 20 dumb kids, who will make 400 more dumb kids... madness. |
|
| Pearl Jam – Breath Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Good interpretations here. But I think it's interesting, 'step out on your porch'. Reminds me of Yellow Ledbetter 'can't you see them? out on the porch. but they don't wave.' So Breath is someone leaving their porch and YLB is them coming back in a body bag (dead). I don't think the two songs are really related, only Pearl Jam knows. ;) | |
| Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is starting to piss me off. It has received the most comments here, but it's so UNORIGINAL. Almost all songs these days are written about love or a guy who lost his girl, and it pisses me off. Get over Black, it's not that great. | |
| Pearl Jam – Save You Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think this is about Mike McCready's former drug addiction, and Eddie wanting to help him. | |
| Pearl Jam – Get Right Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Interesting interpretation, but definetely not correct. 'Get right' simply means to have sex. At the Ten Club store it says the shirt is 'Guaranteed to Hook-uh you up' ;) Pretty obvious. |

| Pearl Jam – Yellow Ledbetter Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| UPDATE: Don't mean to yell, but THERE IS A LEDBETTER BEACH, in Santa Barbara. I haven't found out who it's named for (no doubt Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter), but this could be a very important detail as to the interpretation of the song. | |
| Pearl Jam – Yellow Ledbetter Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I heard a rumor somewhere that there is a beach named Ledbetter something.. has anyone else heard this? | |
| Pearl Jam – Thumbing My Way Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Ever thought about the actual title? "Thumbing My Way", he's finger-picking on guitar. | |
| Pearl Jam – Dirty Frank Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Hahahahaha, I couldn't stop laughing when I finally read the lyrics. I didn't like the song much at first, but this is one of the best songs PJ has ever written after reading the lyrics. | |
| Pearl Jam – Let Me Sleep Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Yeah, PJ has a thing for writing songs about homeless people (Even Flow is another probably). | |
| NamNamBulu – Now or Never Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| God/Tech. matrix. | |
| Pearl Jam – Yellow Ledbetter Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Most people say this song has no 'official lyrics'. Of course it does! The original version of this song (on the Ten b-side I think)'s lyrics are right above. But, every time Pj plays it in concert, the words are different (not making the above lyrics any less 'official'). On Pj's 'Live At The Garden' DVD, in the song Ed sings about someone's brother who died in a war: 'i talked to my dad, he was real sad ooh, my brother and his son's comin' home in, a box or a bag' so the lyrics change each time he sings it, but it is pretty obvious what the song is about. some of the lyrics stay the same though: 'yeaah.. can't you seem them? out on the porch, yeah, but they don't wave..' is sung in every version. this is a very nice song, instrumentation and vocals are beautiful, and the actual meaning of it is original (... how many World War 2 songs can you find that are actually good?). It's finally a good song without some pathetic guy complaining about how he lost his girl. Anyone who says this song is about a guy who lost his girl should be shot. That is all. Have fun. |

| Pearl Jam – Down Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
According to the liner notes of their "Lost Dogs" release, this song was written after seeing a social disorder (i.e. riot or something) in L.A. Am (16x) G (2x) Gm (2x) C (2x) D (2x) or something like that. |

| J Mascis and the Fog – Outside Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
First of all, I love this song. It's one of, if not my number one, favorite song by J Mascis + The Fog, the last song on their new(ish) Free So Free album. I think the whole idea of "Outside" and "On the other side" is him being single (i.e. can't get a date or can't keep up a relationship, mostly the latter). Like he's "On the other side" of where lots of people are (with a bf/gf). Line by line analysis: "Just to be there, said i'd won"; kind of like he doesn't care too much about the relationship but just bragging rights. "Everybody took my turn I don't know why I can't learn No surrender I won't learn" He always waits too long and loses her. "I'll take another ride" probably means he's ready for another relationship." "Where 'ya goin' baby? I think we've been in this way too long On the other side" Pretty self explanatory. This is an awesome song, especially the two main guitar riffs, as well as the solo. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find guitar tabs for it, so if anybody could find me some it would be appreciated. - Arman C. |

| J Mascis and the Fog – Ammaring Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| "Amma" also means a spiritual mother or abbess. Awesome song though. | |
| Pearl Jam – Brother Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song appears on their "Lost Dogs" release, I don't recall it having words either, but if you listen very very closely it sounds like someone is singing through a synthesizer or voice box, or maybe it's just my imagination. | |
| Placebo – The Bitter End Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
'The Bitter End', it's about him being obsessed with and stalking some girl that dumped him (Reminds me of the second time That I followed you home...), (You shower me with lullabies As you're walking away Reminds me that it's killing time On this fateful day) and if he can't have her then he feels that they both must die (The Bitter End). Listen real closely at the end of the song, Brian is saying 'From the time we intercepted Feels more like suicide... ', makes sense, that from the time they met, it's some paper thin love or sucker love, some mixture of lust and obsession and paper thin love (from Every Me and Every You by this same band), and basically he must kill himself and her if he cannot have her. |

| Sunny Day Real Estate – Seven Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| God everyone here has to relate sdre's songs to drugs. | |
| Sunny Day Real Estate – One Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I'm just wondering what "Novacaine" means... I looked it up and it came up with a Japanese pop band. | |
| Sunny Day Real Estate – Grendel Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
"The rain was there to wash away my tears. I wanted to be them, but instead I destroyed myself". This is one of the few lines of lyrics that makes me think Jeremy is schitzo: "I wanted to be them, but instead I destroyed myself". Jeremy's regular personalityis the one that is sad and is leaving his body as tears, so he's saying that he (his evil side) wanted to escape with the tears, but stayed inside him and destroyed himslef. Or something like that, that's my best interpretation of the song... |
