This song is a summary of existentialism, especially the feelings expressed by Nietzsche and Sartre.
Conner realizes the significance of God, yet he doesn't believe in him. unlike more athiests Conner is a true athiest who does not believei God yet realizes the significance of the idea of God and that without a God he has no soul, and that common beliefs in life are nothing but illusions.
Even I, a devout catholic identify with Conenr in this song. its so true. Even with a God, what does that say about someone? That our only meaning rests in God. Thats pretty depressing that on our own we are so insignificant. I'm just glad unlike Conner I have a religion to escape into. I greatly respect Conner for grasping his ideas and following them to their fullest conclusions. |
