The thing is, when I first heard this song, I thought a pre-pubescent 12-year old was singing it.... And then I did some research on Daniel Johnston, and it turns out that he's very mentally disturbed, almost got locked up for attempted murder. He got his music out there by working at McDonalds and putting a demo tape on the tray of any cute girl he saw. Whoa. But I still love this song. |

It's all calypso...I think he's talking about how when you end your relationship with someone, but you still see them around frequently, you sort of put on a dance for them, so they think that you're better off without them...but it's not easy you know. And someone said that when he sings "I walk around with my horns out now," that he's more wary of relationships...I think I agree with that. Maybe it also means that he's more honest with the people he's involved with...I don't know. Either way, this song has been on repeat for the longest time in my room, maybe I should go turn it up... |

I found this song on Silverchair's "Without You" CD single, and I saw that it wasn't listed on here... and this is an *amazing* song. I think Daniel wrote this song to reflect back on his battles with depression, and to tell his fans and himself that he's moved on to better things. "But the salt water's dry, and the pain's in the sky..." I think the salt waters are his tears, and they're dry and gone now. No longer engaged To insecure scars Cause nothing's secure It's just kept behind bars And I love everything You've learnt to ignore But you don't wanna hear If you've heard it before... Daniel sounds as if he was a former cutter, but he's no longer a slave to his scars...and in the lines "but you don't wanna hear, if you've heard it before...", he's telling his fans that all his past musical pieces have been about pain and suffering, because he thought that was the only way he thought he could produce something meaningful, but now he sees that happiness has its moments as well... boy, that was long. Ah, well. This song is beautiful. |

| I think in this song he's mourning the loss of a friend who killed themselves, possibly by inhaling petrol, or drowning in a pool (chlorine), somehow abusing his body in some way...and daniel can't seem to pick himself up after his friend's death...so he sinks into depression. | |

I think that this is about his addiction, but I also think he experiences a love/hate feeling with it. He loves to swallow the pills, but he doesn't like to admit to himself that he needs them to get over his "emotion sickness". He may think that the pills cloud his mental vision, hence the line "corrosive head pollution." I've battled depression and self-mutilation myself, and although I know I need my pills to help me, it makes me feel like less of a person because I'm more prone to distorting my life through pain and sadness... That's just my take. |

I think that this song is from the point of view from a guy who rapes a girl, and then cuts himself to try to rid himself of the guilt he feels for committing the deed. I also think that he's trying to justify his action in many ways... "Pretend that I'm pollution/ Oh, I'm dying"... colormegray did a good job of explaining it. |

when I listen to the lyric "Old incisions, refusing to stay..." I think of someone cutting themselves, but wanting the scars to remain...that's probably not even what it means, but that's the image I get. the guitars, the vocals, the overall composition of the song...silverchair's abilities are diabolical. |

Well, this is what the song means to ME, and what I mean by this is that I related to this song by comparing to my own emotions and experiences, not that of Claudio's story. A Favor House Atlantic is something I play or remember when someone fucked me over, or broke my heart. "now I'll shoot, you run..." It's just the best line to say "Ok, you hurt me...your turn." |
