I want to be able to explain, in such an exceptionally poetic way, what I'm thinking.

A.k.a. it's about complacency for moderation... and Chris is singing about being unhappy with mediocrity.

Alexisonfire – Little Girls Pointing And Laughing Lyrics 21 years ago
I interpret this song to be about a girl admitting something awful she did to the lyricist. She cares about him, but is not on the same page as him.

I still can remember what you did. Your eyes full of discomfort, bare foot in a public washroom.

She's telling him, and really uncomfortable about it, very out of place.

Spill on me your nostalgia like warm water and cataracts that that fell behind self conscious eyes.

The accused is trying to soften the situation and make him feel comfortable by reminiscing about the good times in the past.

Hurt so good through ivory rain and cut throat soap box derby racers. I want you to ruin me.

The realization that it hurts so bad, but maybe he was asking for it by staying with her, it's clear that he was optimistic about someone who didn't deserve it, and the "I want you to ruin me" is self post-reaction.

please just give me back my heart, it has been too long and i will burn no more...please just give me back my heart, it has been too long and i will burn no more, tired of all these lies and elsewhere eyes of yours, so i will scream and dream of whats to come.

Dallas' part is kind of summarizing what he now feels. He's been hurt, and wants to just forget the person and move on to what's to come, because he knows staying with her is just asking for more of the same, it's hard to get over some people though, even if they hurt you worse than you ever felt you could have been hurt.

Hey, it's emo music, if you're looking for some existential explaination to this stuff, you're looking in the wrong place, if you're looking for unusually sincere lyrics and great instrumentals, you've come to the right place.

Number One Fan – It's Happening Lyrics 21 years ago
Random guess about what this is about, cause' I think I went through a similar experience as the lyricist, it seems that was with almost every song on the album. Anyways, It sounds like either he had been hangoing around his love for too long, and not giving her breathing room because he was so in need of someone, but she only took it as clinging-on to her. Either that or he went an cheated on his love, and regrets it.

Number One Fan – There Went The World Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is really beautiful. It means something a little different to me. My interpretation, I guess, is influenced by personal experience however, every outlook is subjective. This is about the guys ex-girlfriend after they have broken up. He is singing about her and how she's trying to faux-move on (like so many of us do, just to feel that "security" again) even though the reason they broke up should not have ended their relationship. It seems to have been over a lack of understanding of eachother, and now he is resentful of how the new guy is taking advantage of the situation he is presented with, his fragile ex-girlfriend. He loves her still, and sings about everything that is special about her and her outlook on life, and it's just really sad to hear it all, because there went his world, in just one girl.

Cross My Heart – Tonight We'll Light Ourselves On Fire Lyrics 21 years ago
This is about deciding to commit to someone because you're certain it's the right thing to do, however, they are hesistant. Frustrating. Trust is a big issue in this.

The Spill Canvas – 3685 Lyrics 21 years ago
I like it a lot... I totally get what he means at the end... COMPLETELY. Basically, he had what he thought was a wonderful relationship with this girl. Eventually they broke up and he felt as though I guess, he finally realized the "routine" he was living with the original girl (she was taking advantage of his kindness and willingness to learn) and how amazing his new relationship is. He's resentful so he has the right to tell her off. Voila... my interpretation.

Filmmaker – My Black Lung Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is really well written and admittingly, Carl and the boys from filmmaker will be sadly missed. I always though this would be the ideal theme song for the movie "October Skies". Thanks Filmmaker, trust me, all your effort, was worth it.

The Beautiful Mistake – On Building Lyrics 22 years ago
I have the video on my Cinema Beer Buddy DVD and it seems pretty subjective to me. I kinda am persuaded to believe that the man who takes the blame for the woman killing her abusive husband/boyfriend is looking for redemption and receives it. It seems like he may have also been abusive in the past, and by taking the blame for killing the man, he has finally accepted that he's killed his old self/ways. I think the song's about redemption.

Benton Falls – Sad Like Winter Leaves Lyrics 22 years ago
A really great song written about a man who's wife/love had drowned. I especially like "...a scar on his arm for every time he'd tried to follow" showing weakness and brutal honesty is a Benton Falls' Specialty.

Benton Falls – Swimming With You Lyrics 22 years ago
This sounds like Michael is using swimming in the metaphorical sense, to represent interaction and the sharing of emotions between two people. When swimming you have to put so much work into simply treading to stay afloat and movement requires that much more effort. Metaphorically he's saying that it's so hard to make progress with her, on top of the fact that they're already in a sensitive area. Seems like this is someone who has been hurt or who has developed a thick emotional shell for some other reason. It's a really good concept, Benton's full of them.

Mineral – If I Could Lyrics 22 years ago
As with pretty much any song, there's dual meaning. What you interpret, and what the lyricist is expressing. I see this as an expression of the untangeable nature of beauty and how it makes life worth living. In this case, it is portrayed in the way a woman/girl appears and carries herself. Personally, for all the sappy people who have their own personal stories to share, it's about how you can fall in love with something without it loving you back. That's beauty.
