| The Mountain Goats – Family Happiness Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i think this song is a song about a bitter couple of course. i hear a bitter boy saying all these words to a girl he loved. "you can bring out all your weapons, but you can't make me go to war" i think this means, we aren't going to fight. you're not going to win, there won't be a war here tonight. he is whispering curses into the cold night air. look at the person i've turned into. he used to be civil and caring, but he's turned into this raging feral beast, full of disdain for this woman. no family happiness :[ i am right here where you want me do what you brought me out here for. you can arm me to the teeth. you can't make me go to war. all of these lines are amazing. he structures stories in 3 minutes like no other. |

i thought the line "you should know i've been unfaithful" was always "you should not have been unfaithful" in my head it makes more sense in the context of the song. the whole she's calling a lover and he is spiteful, so he cuts off her air, and while he's killing her he says "fuck you for cheating on me." i just love the way bazans voice sounds at the end of this song. |

| Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i dont have any problem with a band getting popular. i fucking love it honestly. hurrah. yay! rejoice! BUT, it does break my heart when they get popular for a couple reasons. i dont mind forking out $20 for a show. in fact, money isn't a matter to me really. for music, especially live music, money isn't an object, BUT it's tough to go from paying $10 or $15 to see an amazing show lineup to paying $40 to see an OKAY show lineup. a good example is the white stripes last year. it was $44 after ticketmaster charges and it was just the white stripes and whirlwind heat. a good show by all means, but by no means an AMAZING show. worth $40? probably, but i'm used to paying $15 - $20 for an amazing lineup. i just saw azure ray + the elected + omaha friends for $8. only $8. sure it was a 3 hr drive to the closest venue to see them, but it was well worth it. now, if azure ray + the elected were in popular demand, ticket prices would go up, the venue they played at may or may not be an option, probably not would be my guess. ALSO, the fact that the tickets just sell out so damn fast. maybe it's just cuz i'm in the south and we have shitty venues that sell out quickly, but tickets go on sale for a show with a band in the spotlight and those tickets go fast, which i am also not used to. that is more of a personal venting gripe than a gripe about the band becoming popular, because in fact i'm just thrilled that they can sell out a venue. | |
| Pedro the Lion – Foregone Conclusions Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| yes we're still so tightly wound around our foregone conclusions. isn't that just the way we put the Lord in His place? the Lord does and / or doesn't like this. blah blah blah. way to go pedro. i heard pedro perform this at the first cornerstone florida except he put "hell" in for "fuck." i just had to start applauding. that is one of the most powerful verses i've heard in a while. way to go david | |
