Hedgerows were extremely old thick bushes in europe in the black forest where nazi's would hide and kill soldiers in a kind of gurilla warfare nearing the end of the way, so the bustle could be the americans clearing the hedgerows at the end of the war, The two paths were the paths the sodiers could go by, they could stay in the military and soon kill again in korea or become civilian again and lead a "normal" life in the long run. ===================================== Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know, The piper's calling you to join him, Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind. the soldiers were being pressure by america to stay in the arm rather than not renew their enlistment terms and they didnt know which way to choose. The lady could be america which would start buying its way to prosperity after the war. the wind could have carried the voices of thousands of young men who died during the war and are in heaven ===================================== And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul. There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold. And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. | wow, i love this song and i just learned it on guitar, im actually most surprised that only three people have commented on any other byrds songs. this one would have to be my favorite | |
