I dont really believe the song is some ritual she does to make living comparable to pain of falling off a mountain and thus happy. I think it is fairly literal, one of those things you can do and feel so much peace being alone. Just letting thoughts flow and getting away from everything, and then returning to her normal life, and having the ability to be happy because she has had her needed time alone. A ritual of sorts. And the suicide thought is just something accompanying the thoughts, its all like a deep breath. |

He has a "mission." And one day while on this "imaginary" ride to work he imagines that the pressure of being the most important secret agent in the world has become too much, and he collapses into insanity right there as the morning sun beams through the window of this futuristic shuttle train... but the "realness" of the supposedly "imagined" insanity leaves our character stunned that he could so vividly envision his own psychological demise. Great song, rather then say what ill think ill put what Isaac Brock himself said in interview with onion av. "Basically, it's a push-me, pull-me thing. Science finds a way to fuck things up, and then science finds a way to fix it. There's a song on the record that's pretty much about that, "The View." That whole "We're fixed right where we stand" lyric. For every positive thing that we accomplish, something negative comes out of it, and vice versa."
Also the drug lines saying at this point that if it takes drugs to make me happy then that works for me. I really like the feel of this song, and the whole positive negative feel to it. life it rents us. |

Just about living on a whim and living freely, but not in the tone it is usually spoken about with. A dark undertone is there saying how he almost is just searching for something, and will keep floating and drifting. I love the line "The moths beat themselves to death against the lights." because he knows that he is just searching for something he will never get to and something he thinks will bring happiness, but he'll never get it. However he doesnt really care, he'd rather go on killing himself looking for bliss. |

And how often relationships can become such bullshit after awhile. Even though i fully believe in God, i really love this is song, and many others on the new album that really question Christian beliefs. So many christians these days are just along for the ride and dont truely know or believe what they claim to. Just like christians will call you a hypocrite from being democrat, even though it is much closer to the bible than the damn alternative. Anyway, the song really is interesting, but through my thinking the only justification of God being a control freak is that we are his creations and just like your own arts you strive to work at them and sometimes are very close to other opinions, however we do have freewill and God never changes, but you are all believers and probibly dont give a shit.
Great song, the banjo is really a nice addition and for those who have no reference to bukowski he also wrote barfly. (the movie) |
