Damn, I just can't take it anymore. All this shit sprayed in so many directions. Here's a little wisdom for you... BANDS CHANGE! Ok, lets reflect for a moment, where does a songwriter get his/her inspiration? Hrm... lets see... PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, maybe?! Or maybe it's the shit that you deal with and go through? Emotions you feel? CORRECT! I know because I am a songwriter and guitar player. I am a HUGE fan of IF and I absolutely love their old stuff, The Jesters Race, Clayman, Gyroscope, Dead Eternity, Colony, Ordinary Story, these are the greats, but guess what? Time changes, you don't keep going through the same stuff and feeling the same way forever, you overcome these things and are faced with new challenges to overcome, so what do you write about then? THE NEW SHIT YOU'RE GOIN THROUGH, JACKASS! That's all in flames is doing. He seems to have overcome all his past insecurities and fears only to be faced with new ones, so that's what he's writing and singing about. As for the change in music, it goes very well with the change in meanings. Anders lyrics haven't changed, he still writes in the same, poetic, cryptic way, just about different things. So the music isn't as fast and brutal, you hear different sounds and it's more melodic and a bit industrial, but it compliments the new emotions Anders is expressing perfectly, in my opinion. I don't pick old or new In Flames, I choose In Flames. They're still the same band... just like Metallica. But if you really want my opinion of St. Anger, read my meaning to "All Within My Hands" And anyways, on to the meaning of the song, LIKE THIS SITE WAS MEANT FOR! I always thought it was just about escaping the world. When it seems like everyone is crashing in on you and pressuring you (LIKE MOST OF YOU BASTARDS ARE DOING) to do something, just closing your eyes and escaping to a place... a "quiet place" where everything gets better. However, after reading Juggernaught's interpretation, I really agree with him, that fits very well. No matter how Anders meant it, it's still a good song and just as deep as anything else he's written, so FUK ALL YOU HATERS! |

Wow, first just have to say that In Flames has become a diety. Anders amazing use of words and the music... simply amazing. Anyways, I think this song is about the confusion of religion. "The self-inflicted state of mind" is his confusion on what to choose and what "god" to worship. "I think the clock still exists, god just forgot to tap my shoulder" seems like he knows that time is running out, that he will die one day, it's just that god forgot to "tap his shoulder" and remind him and prove that "he" exists. "I woke up today, I wish I felt something" He's saying that he wishs he could believe in a god and that he felt something deeper inside than just the surface. "I want to be the things I see The pilgrim that is me But I know I ain't that free The suburban me" Ok, the chorus... it's like he sees everyone everywhere worshiping some god and he wishes he could be a part of it, that he felt the way they do, that he's a pilgim on the journey of life, but he knows he can't just believe in god the way they do, that he can't just have some blind faith and follow a god he doesn't know exists, he's too "surburban" so to speak. "spirits rise and meet the eye Covered by the stinch of judgement" I think that's kind of a fear, that people die and if there is an afterlife, there's judgement awaiting, and who knows what the right path is. "Twisted visions torturing Who claims to be the one? That filtered smile just might be true" This is good, this is more on the topic of religion, about all these people who claim that their god is the only true god, and they preach to you and give you "undeniable" proof, but he's saying that maybe someones "filtered" smile might be true, that they may be telling the truth about their god. "Can you hear the message, as I wrestle with the clouds? I'm on the way to succumb, That's just saying that he's wrestling with the decision of choosing a god to worship, to try to make a choice to follow a religion, but he's wrestling with finding the right one, however, he's "on the way to succumb." I don't think In Flames is a "religious" band, per say, but they always seem to sing about the deepest subjects inside of all of us, and religion and the questions about it, are one of the deepest I think. Anders should worship himself, he's a god in my eyes! |

| Well, despite what many of you belive, I think Howard was a perfect fit to KsE. I've seen them twice already (once opening for In Flames and once at Jagiermiester opening for Slayer) and both times they kicked ass! I was a fan of KsE when Jesse was still in the band and when I heard he left, I was really upset, but personally I think they made a good switch. Howard screams almost as good as Jesse did, but he sings a lot better. Overall, one of my fav songs. I can see 2 clear interpretations of this song. 1) as peeps were saying earlier in a long distance relationship. "seek me, call me, I'll be waiting" He's just telling his love that he'll be waiting for her when she can come to him. The entire song can support the idea in that the only peace he has is when he's sleeping, and waking only bring the misery of being without her. In the chorus, he's telling her to seek him, to use him as her comfort and solace and that he'll be waiting for her to end his brokenheart. Of course, the second verse is obvious. His only desire would be to bridge their division and them to be together again, etc, etc, you get the idea. Also, another interpretation I can see clearly that I don't think anyone else has suggested is a 2) christian p.o.v. I know I've commented on a lot of KsE songs with christian perspecitives, but the all fit so well to me and Jesse admitted his spirituality and I think perhaps it has riden over into the new band (however, I could be wrong). But imagine this song as being sung from Jesus. Like he's calling out to all the souls on earth to "seek him, call him, he'll be waiting" And the whole thing fits very similiarly. His only desire to bring the division between himself and us. And the chorus on how we should seek him for our comfort, our solace, our completion and how he'll be eternally waiting for us to do so. I dunno... maybe I'm crazy, but that seems to fit as well. Whatever the case, KsE kicks major portions of ass! | |

Dope isn't the type of band to just hit something on the surface, they really seem to put some deep emotion and shit in their music, and that's what I love about them. Well, I may be wrong, but I think it's about a very complicated relationship and each verse is a different stage in the relationship. In the first verse "Sit back, bare your cross to me, oh won't I listen." He's with this girl who's a strong christian and is trying to push him into christianity and he knows she's right, but he's stubborn, so he rejects her and she leaves and he's full of regret "let me start again." Then, in the second verse, it seems that he missed her so much, he decided to do what she had asked and go to christianity "long before I could even see, you're what was missing, twisting deep inside of me..." But she rejects him because she's talking with some other guy "hold closed your hand..." Then in the chorus he's crying out "you fucked with me, behind this garden" talking about how all this time she had been trying to get him and now he's trying to change his life for her and she's rejecting him. In the breakdown, he's begging her to look at him to see the change in his life "can you see, can you see what you wanna see? Can you see there's a little spot of light in me (God in him)?" and the last part, "Can you see, can you tell I'm fucked!" is when he gives up, he feels as if he's wasted everything and all of his efforts have been in vain. And I believe that the "bleed emotions, bleeding emotions" is the girl is heartbroken about what he did for her and the changes he made, and maybe she got burnt by christianity or the other guy and returns to him and says she'll give up christianity for him "sat back gave your soul to me" she took it away from God and gave it to him. "God damn did I burn my hands" and "hold closed my hand" he rejects her now, but very regretfully, he's just so bitter about all that has happened and so heartbroken that he turns her away, but then cries out to himself about it at the end and tries to tell himself why he had to do it, or maybe he's telling her "you fucked with me, behind this garden." Well I agree with several of you in a lot of ways. I personally take it as a song to a loved one far away, but also, I could see it as him talking to Jesus like him putting himself in the position of one of the deciples right before Jesus' crusifixion. Wondering what the last words they said to him were. To behold his "face of love" again, and the scripture says "God is love" or "the wondering sun will always speak your name" and the scripture says that "if men don't praise me, the rocks will cry out." And in the chorus "it won't be long, we'll meet again, you're memory is never passing" saying they'll never forget Him or the sacrifice He made and how they will see him again in Heaven, and about mourning for those who never knew him because they will spend eternity in hell. He's talking about how he loves her laugh and how the photograph will serve him well. However in the second verse, it seems they are back together again. I don't think it was made just for Kane, the band still has a meaning behind the song and it has nothing to do with him, otherwise, why would it appear on the Punisher soundtrack? Well I personally think it's about an attraction to a woman, not necessarily true love. He's just so drawn to her and he's asking for, in my opinion, sex from her, because he says "give me what I could never ask for, connect me and you could be my chemical." The verses seem to be about his attraction to her and how he's seen such beauty that now all the wonder of the world is gone because it's all in her. And the chorus is just saying what he wants from her. For her to be his "drug" his "chemical." | Ok, well this is my first posting, and I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying and I think the dead thing is good, that does fit, but I just wanted to state what I thought when I first heard the song. I was thinking it's about a woman cheating on her boyfriend and he broke up with her. "the angel from my nightmare" is saying that he is in love with her, but she broke his heart by cheating on him and turned his life into a 'nightmare.' All of the dark references are to his now empty life. In the second verse, he's just talking about how lonely he is now and how he feels he HAS to have someone is his life and how he lays in bed at night thinking about her and "counting spider webs" and "eating their insides like my indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason" he's afraid to call her, as much as he wants to, because she hurt him so much. As for the "don't waste your time on me, you're already the voice inside my head" he's basically saying that he already can't stop thinking about her, he's just really torn on what to do because he loves and misses her so much. Hopefully, this post wasn't too redundant. I really love the song and it is really deep to me, and I think blink's new cd is awesome and inspiring. | |
