| Jimmy Eat World – Please Say No Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
First, I'll preface this with the statement that Jimmy Eat World has been and always will be my favorite band. I love them with such a passion I can't possibly express. Their music has helped me through the toughest times in my life. Earlier this year I read an interview with the band and that they said that Damage would be more of an "adult" breakup record. Not full of breakup songs they would've written years ago. But breakups that have consequences in adult life. I think this song is the perfect representation of that. From the beginning, I get the impression of a now-divorced/separated couple who know that they're not meant for each other but (at least he) wants so desperately to work out. From the first verse, I imagine giving a phone call to his ex after he's had a couple drinks, realizing that their lives are so hopelessly tied that he doesn't feel he can be himself without her. From the chorus, I just get a lot of internal conflict. I'm not sure I'm interpreting it right because of the way it's phrased, but I imagine he's saying how badly he wants her to say that she's done, that they'll never be together because he doesn't have the conviction to walk away on his own. What I don't get are the last two lines, "Say anything but no, and I'd go, I'd go, I'd go." It seems to be in contradiction to what he was saying--that if she says yes or maybe, that he would leave. I'm a bit confused by this part. Any clarification would be welcomed. As for the second verse, I'm imagining a flashback to when they were together/married (I say married because of mention of kids, but that may not necessarily be the case). This flashback seems the moment he realized they shouldn't be together anymore. That they were hurting each other by remaining together. The continuation of the second verse seems to be in the here and now, wondering that if they were to get away from all of the people and circumstances that shaped their relationship if they could make it. Pretty heartbreaking. Actually, taking this part into consideration, and that the chorus is followed this time by "with you, with you, with you." I think maybe he's saying that if she said anything but no that he would go with her, leave his life and everything he knows and go anywhere with her... but with the rest of the chorus, he still wants her to say no so that he knows they've made the right decision, which leads beautifully into the last verse. The last verse seems to be her answer, in my opinion. I'm still imagining this as the phone call from the beginning of the song. She's basically saying that he already knows the answer he wants, why drudge up all of these feelings and memories when they both know that they could never be... however much they may wish it otherwise. Anyway, in my opinion, this is one of the most heartbreaking songs they've ever written. I love it. |

| Breaking Benjamin – Without You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I love that the last words on the album are "the end". As Frans said above, the meaning of this song seems pretty straightforward. The ending of a relationship, but obviously filled with a lot of turmoil about actually ending it. It has to be done, but he doesn't want to/think he can let go. | |
| Breaking Benjamin – Anthem Of The Angels Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Definitely a very sad song. To me, it sounds like a loved one who's been sick for a long time, whether from cancer or another malady. About coming to terms with letting someone go because you know there's nothing left you can do to help. The song has a very epic feel to it. Very beautiful. | |
| Breaking Benjamin – Into The Nothing Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Definitely one of my favorites on the new album. I'm not totally sure on the meaning, but it definitely rings of war... but who knows maybe it's about a relationship? | |
| SafetySuit – What If Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| On second thought, I kind of agree with sakura's take on it... | |
| SafetySuit – What If Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| To me, it sounds like he's debating telling a girlfriend about cheating. It's already happened, but trying to reason out whether he should tell. Don't know where the "makes you laugh now" part would come in, but who knows... | |
| Jimmy Eat World – Disintegration Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is my favorite song. Ever. Period. I've listened to this song hundreds of times and it still never ceases to have me in awe. It's so complex and it's just absolutely perfect. | |
| The All-American Rejects – Another Heart Calls Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Oh my goodness. This song is pure genius. By far the best song on the new album IMO. What I get from it is a relationship where one or the other of them (or both) has a chance/desire to be with someone else: "Another heart calls" (or maybe already has been... "I didn't lie, but didn't I tell you?") and they have to figure out whether they want each other or not. They make it sound much deeper, of course, but that's the general vibe I get from it. And what I hear is "OR everything that matters breaks in two." instead of "While" Anyone else hear this? Because if that is the word, then it seems to imply an order with the rest of the lyrics, "Say it's true, or everything that matters breaks in two." Like if you don't say this then we're done. But regardless, that's my favorite line in the whole song. Freaking fantastic. The woman in this is just amazing and of course, Tyson is too. |

| The Academy Is... – The Test Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is an amazing song, my favorite from the new album I think. To me, it's about a relationship that's slowly falling apart. She's lost interest or is cheating and he's finding that he just doesn't know her like he thought he did. | |
| Disturbed – Criminal Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Oops. sorry, didn't read about the Report thread. Disregard the corrections. | |
| Disturbed – Criminal Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"And you'll be paid in time" should be "And you'll be paid in kind" "Difficult enough for me" should be "Typical enough for me" IMO This is an amazingly catchy song. His voice in the chorus is just amazing. Great song. :) The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory and hard to misinterpret. |

| The Early November – Make Believe Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"So next time you're thinking about telling me what I do wrong think about all I let myself forget" Man, gotta love the emotion Ace puts in that last word. And I agree with Ellie... "Why can't you have me and be happy at the same time?" Ah, Ace Enders is a musical god. |

| The Early November – Sunday Drive Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is my favorite TEN song ever. The emotion in it in that last part just floors me every time. Definitely about a breakup and infidelity on the girlfriend's part. Man. Definitely one of the best songs ever. Oh, and I think it's "And the silence from the SIDE of the car..." Can't really tell if that's what he says, but it makes more sense to me than "sight". Meaning the girl who's in the car with him isn't talking and there's just that numbing silence. |

| Jimmy Eat World – Dizzy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Okay, I'm pretty sure he says "If everything I meant to you, you CAN lick and seal then fold in two, then I've been so blind." I never hear the T. AND it makes a lot more sense. He's saying that if she can so easily wrap everything up for herself as to break up with a letter (or something to that effect) then she's felt vastly different than what he thought she did. |
|
| Jimmy Eat World – Here It Goes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| oh, and it's "It's not perfection yet. How boring if it is." makes more sense than a random interjection. Thought that does happen a lot in music... | |
| Jimmy Eat World – Dizzy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Maybe it's just me, but in the album version at least (haven't heard the demo) it sounds like "When your eyes meet mine, we show it off" could be "When your eyes meet mine, we show it out"... like show it out the door. I dunno, it just makes more sense to me "Show it off" just doesn't sound in keeping with the mood of the song... but i LOVE this song. genius |

| Jimmy Eat World – Carry You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Sounds to me like a failed relationship because they just ultimately weren't compatible. I love this song! | |
| Jimmy Eat World – Let It Happen Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I agree Dizzy is great, but this one is also a wonderful addition to the album! | |
| Jimmy Eat World – Here It Goes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I agree with davidprevails. This song makes me wanna dance so much! And I can definitely imagine a choreographed group dance to this. it's just calling for it. This is an awesome song on an awesome album! | |
| Cartel – Georgia Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think it's "I'm only just one second short of calling this my AIM" rhymes with the second sentence better anyway. Really like this song. |
|
| Cartel – This Is Who We Are Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is absolutely mesmerizing. As for the meaning it obviously has to do with taking control and learning from your life. I have to say it's my favorite off their new album. | |
| Mae – Ready And Waiting To Fall Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Beautiful song. Beautiful lyrics. Enough said. | |
| Mae – The Sun And The Moon Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Oh my gosh. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. It's so sweet and slow. I could just imagine dancing to this song forever. It's so calming and sweet. Ah, I love it! | |
| Mae – The Ocean Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think he's talking about a relationship that's seen it's better days. There's something that's blocking them from being how they were, but when she's with him he realizes that he really needs her no matter what the problem. It's really sweet and I love the song. It's so beautiful. | |
| Copeland – Love Is a Fast Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I agree exactly with guitarplayer. And I love this song. I've loved it ever since they had it up at purevolume. | |

| Copeland – Hold Nothing Back Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I love this song! I could go to sleep listening to it. it's so calming. But anyway, I think it has beautiful lyrics that can be taken either of two ways (as with almost all Christian music) It can either be seen as a human relationship (a guy and a girl and all that jazz) or from God talking to his children. I think it's beautiful either way and very very calming. Prolly my favorite on the new CD as well, though it's a wonderful CD and has plenty of other great ones. | |

| Hellogoodbye – Dear Jamie... Sincerely Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I love the feel of this song, it's so peaceful, even when the guitars come in later. It's awesome. Some of the words are wrong in here... in the first verse... "dial act" should be "dialect". in the chorus, "every thing" should be "ever page" "have much more to say" should be "have got much more to say" "air and land easy" should be "air and land and sea" -ace |
