This song has everything it takes to make a perfect song. First of all the initial guitar riff is insane, then the bass line in the beginning is awesome. The lyrics are very well written, there are pauses, harmonies, and it is topped off perfectly with an incredible guitar solo. You don't hear guitar solos much in thrice's music, but when you do, it is unforgettable. |

I think this song is about love. He is explaining what love is and what it does to you by comparing it to other things. In the first verse he says that the drug is not love, but it does have the same characteristics that love does. It "sets up shop behind your ribcage," which is where you heart is.
And in the last stanza when he says "lift the veil, it's not medicine and my heart fails, time and time again," I think he's saying that he's incapable of love. His heart fails to love.
I love the drum line in the beginning of this song and how it is sung. It is no less than a beautiful work of art. |
