| Sonic Youth – Beautiful Plateau Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This song is why Sonic Youth is the greatest band. No one paints a picture with sound like this group. from the discordant chaotic valley at the beginning of this song it slowly comes together, rises from the anarchy and plateaus at a point of blissful structure and tonality. just totally fucking tits. |

| Billy Bragg – Ideology Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Dude Chimes of Freedom is a Bob Dylan song. Like most of the Byrds' hits it's a cover. Billy's take is pretty awesome. All politicians are crooks and swindlers, left right or center. |

| Black Lips – Drugs Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I've always heard "blood on my key and my nose is a-runnin'" as the opening line, as in his nose is bleeding from doing too much blow off of the tip of his key. I think "bad attitude" is also probable. | |
| The Magnetic Fields – Three-Way Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I believe this song is about three-point turns, AKA "Y-turns". | |
| of Montreal – A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
^^^^^Haha yeah I'd love to vacation in Norway and get super depressed. I think this song is pretty much about depression in the winter time, a condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). When the sun finally does come out it's like entering a manic phase. (hence the solar fever?) |
|
| Modest Mouse – Sleepwalking Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It's an adaptation of Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny (which The Ventures covered) only with Brock's lyrics. Late '50's early '60's era prom slowdance song with Isaac's brilliant lyrics and characteristic lisp. it's the perfect combination. |
|
| Yo La Tengo – Black Flowers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I believe the line marked ?? is "you got a long way to go" | |
| Art Brut – Bang Bang Rock & Roll Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| yeah, I think this song is a shot at so-called "retro revivalists" who do their best to immitate the VU, but in a more comercially viable style. i like how he laments about how rock n roll has become a cliche, denouncing what is the essence of rock n roll (sex and drugs), but at the same time what is more rock and roll than rejecting the usual values? it's not rebellious, it's reactionary. Art Brut kicks ass. | |
| Mama Cass Elliot – Make your own kind of music Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
w/r/t Lost...I have this theory that all the survivors of the crash have something specific to learn about themselves, this is why fate put them in this situation. Locke has a new outlook on life, a purpose to live. Charlie faces his heroine addiction. Pretty much everyone faces his or her demons on the island. I think this song is relevant to that, each of the losties is "making [his or her] own kind of music, singing [his or her] own special song". In other words, finding meaning on the island. The fact that this song qeues up every morning in the hatch is just absurd though, what a way to wake up. |

| Storm And Stress – And Third And Youngest, Unnamed Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I hear "where there's a lever (pronounced lee ver) slam of air because passengers sleep" most likely not the lyrics but it makes more sense than slyhamovair |

| A Silver Mt. Zion – There's a River in the Valley Made of Melting Snow Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The internet tells me Baruch atta adonai means "blessed are you oh lord" I think this is my favorite ASMZ song (with lyrics, anyway). It's a shame it is so short. |

| Godspeed You! Black Emperor – BBF3 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
They moved the exclamation point to the middle of their name when they released Yanqui U.X.O., prior to that the exclamation point was at the end on every album. Also they didn't know the monologue was an Iron Maiden song, I think the crazy dude who made the speech referred to himself as Blaise Bailey Finnegan, III. Because, you know, he's nuts. |
|
| Dillinger Four – The Great American Going Out Of Business Sale Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i know it's not the official lyric, but i always heard it as "three cheers for procreation" | |
| Neil Young – Powderfinger Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It isn't about the revolution, rifled muskets weren't invented until the 1800's. Probably about the civil war or some time thereafter, the kid is just fighting raiders on the river in whatever remote part of the country he is in. | |
| A Silver Mt. Zion – God Bless Our Dead Marines Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It's on the upcoming album, released first week of april in north america, i think. couple of lyrics are wrong, minor possible corrections to follow. Well, somewhere dust and peacefully Our vulgar prince's slave should be: While somewhere distant, peacefully The vulgar princes sleep The hungry and the hanged The damaged and the gun Strive along this spinning road Tumbling past the sun should be The hungry and the hanged the damaged and the done striving 'long this spinning rock tumbling past the sun I love my dog and she loves me The world's a mess and so are we She tumbles long green money fields Sick with joy and play should be I love my dog and she loves me The world's a mess and so are we She tumbles 'long green muddy fields Sick with joy and glee There's fresh meat in the club tonight God bless our dead marines Someone had an accident above the burning trees Well, somewhere dust and peacefully Our vulgar prince's slave Dead kids don't get photographed God bless this censory should be There's fresh meat in the club tonight God bless our dead marines Someone had an accident above the burning trees Well, somewhere distant, peacefully the vulgar princes sleep Dead kids don't get photographed God bless this century When the world is sick Can no one be well? | Neil Young – The Loner Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is about every true loner ever. You see those strong silent types who don't seem to give a fuck about anything, sometimes ruthless and cutthroat, but always alone and looking out for their own ass. He has an innate ability to read people. He doesn't want to be alone, but he feels like he can't relate. Nothing can free him. This song is about those guys. So when you see one, don't give him any shit, just step aside. That's all he wants from you. | |
| Modest Mouse – I've Got It All (Most) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
haunch ( P ) Pronunciation Key (hônch, hnch) n. The hip, buttock, and upper thigh in humans and animals. The loin and leg of a four-footed animal, especially as used for food: a haunch of venison. Architecture. Either of the sides of an arch, curving down from the apex to an impost. I don't see why you couldn't pluralize it? |

| Modest Mouse – Exit Does Not Exist Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i think the heavy breathing in the background of the song is a good clue as to what this is about. he hears voices, he seems to recall this person that does not even exist. (alternatively, he is looking at a picture of himself from a long time ago). I think message is that the singer is insane. He is hyperventilating, having a nervous breakdown. And for him, the exit does not exist, there is no way to break out of this cycle of insanity that he is enveloped in. He is recalling how things used to be, realized that the person in the picture no longer exists as he has transformed into someone else, and he breaks down. Also as the song goes on the music becomes more and more chaotic and disorderly. This song is really, really great and is probably one of my favorites as it's something I can relate to about now. | |
| Modest Mouse – So Much Beauty in Dirt Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| too often in today's society people get caught up in superficial shit. i think he is trying to say that the essence of being human, the point of life, is to recognize the beauty in everything, how everything fits together, how the universe works, and he is also saying that people need to chill out and reconsider what is really important, like having a good time. | |
| Modest Mouse – Perfect Disguise Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
wreckedonyou's interpretation is really intereting and I hadn't thought of it from that angle before, and now the song makes better sense. Also the BBC Radio Session version off of the remastered Moon and Antartica is way better. The only difference in lyrics is "she's got the chemical eyes and you're looking okay" at the beginning. |
|
| Modest Mouse – Tiny Cities Made of Ashes Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is clearly about the destruction of the environment as a result of mass consumption and materialism. As is common in MM songs, Brock is screaming out that we're all fucked, and there's really no frontier to run to as there was in the past. Our time here is running short, hell is freezing over, and the only thing we can do is grab a sweater, make some popcorn, sit back and watch the fireworks. | |
| Modest Mouse – The Good Times Are Killing Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The "real world" is nothing but layers upon layers of illusion. Some figure this out on their own, others are shown this through psychadelic drugs or traumatic experiences. Don't ever accept everything at face value. "Reality is far stranger than we can suppose" -Terence McKenna | |
| The Flaming Lips – Evil Will Prevail Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
It's about time someone put up the lyrics to the songs off of Clouds Taste Metallic. Anyway, I've heard this song was written and recorded in the wake of the Oklahoma City Bombing. The Lips were recording when the tragedy occured and cranked out this awesome tune as a way of venting or whatnot. |
|
| The Flaming Lips – What Is the Light? Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The thing I love about the lips is that (and this is my interpretation and I'm sure to catch some flak for it) these songs are at first listen generally love songs. I think they are also thinly veiled metaphores to hallucinogenic experiences. (and with good reason, this album along with Yoshimi are two of the greatest albums to trip face to) Lord knows that when one is under the influence of truly mind expanding chemicals, one can recognize auras, or shining lights, around people. It may not always be visible, but it sure as hell is apparent. I think this song is one of those examples, this guy sees a true inner beauty in this person that he may not have noticed were it not for the drugs, hence the line "is it chemically derived..." | |
| Modest Mouse – You're the Good Things Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I take this song as another one of Isaac's "god is a real bastard with a sick sense of humor" type songs. People live their entire lives spouting cliches like "god is the light of my life, jesus saves, i get high on the lord", etc only to continue living in/through such shit. Not to knock religion or anything, that's just how I interpret it. | |
| Modest Mouse – The Good Times Are Killing Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
hey bro, no need to get testy. I didn't say he owes it to his fans to keep tripping, it's his life and his decision to stop. All I was doing was stating an obvious fact about the quality of the music. The new stuff is clearly less inspired than most of his older work, and that's fine, that happens to most musicians. It just marks the end of an era for Modest Mouse. I do disagree with the statement that "Modest Mouse don't owe us a goddamn thing" as we are the fans, we make the band who they are, we devote our time, attention, and money to this band and expect a certain level of satisfaction from their work. If they fail to meet these expectations then they can be sure that they will lose my time, attention, and money. Every band owes their fan base whether they realize it or not. |
|
| Modest Mouse – Lives Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think this song is about the frustration of everyday life and the singers inability to cope with it all. He finds himself asking "what's the point of anything?" and seems decided that if there is no point then he will try to make the best of it. Or someshit. I don't know, i'm ripped. | |
| Modest Mouse – 3 Inch Horses, Two Faced Monsters Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| not sure what the fuck three inch horses are, but the two faced monsters at the end refers to either people saying one thing and meaning another or being hypocritical and contradicting themselves. two faced means having two sides, often a good side that people meet at first and a bad side that people eventually start to see come out in someone. | |
| Modest Mouse – The Good Times Are Killing Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
It's known that Brock wrote most of the pre "Good news..." songs while either under the influence of acid or at least at a time in his life when he was a regular tripper. I wouldn't doubt the meth addiction theory. Unfortunately I think the lack of acid has killed a lot of creativity in this band as the new album just doesn't have the same catchiness or spark as the previous ones. |
|
| Modest Mouse – Think Long Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think this song is Isaac's way of mocking people who go through life without ever questioning anything "deep" or "meaningful" or "cliche". I find myself constantly surrounded by such people. | |
