I think she's described the actual "cooling" part as similar to a volcano in the past...the time after the explosion, after the heat begins to disappate. |

| Tori Amos – Gold Dust Lyrics

This song is, in part, about her daughter. "Gold Dust" is the song for D.C. (the cherry blossoms, the reflecting pool...); Tori grew up in the metropolitan area. The birth of her daughter has given her pause, and the singer has begun to reflect upon her own childhood. |

Every time I hear the beginning of this song, I think I'm hearing "Lemon Yellow Black". Like Popper, I'm not complaining.
The songs off of this album are much more polished (sound-wise) than those off of Orange Rhyming Dictionary...
I love these guys. |

theprynce is right about how literal that quote is. his mom, like mine, is 'a witch' because she celebrates the goddess rather than the god, it's almost an explanatory note to his statement.
my favorite part of this song is 'if i had a nickel for every damn dime i'd have half the time, do you mind?' it reminds me of a joke proof that my friend did in physics about time being equal to money. and i guess that's part of the message of the song, right? we're so preoccupied with the details of the world, including money, perhaps, and other things material, we forget to live...although, if you believe in reincarnation or you are one who will have but one life, you still agree that you, as a sum of your experiences, are alive for the first and last time.
i just...well, i realize that i ramble quite a bit, but i effing love this song. |

that line mentioned by museformurderers IS insanely lame, but for some reason i don't mind it. it just seems to my idea of the tone of the song, which is an awkward, clumsy sort of thing--like she's been caught slightly off balance and is trying to retalliate as best she can. |

"i know you're wise beyond your years, but
do you ever get the fear
that your perfect verse is just a lie you tell
yourself to help you get by?"
yes. that sentiment drives this song...and we do all want to believe that love is real, so badly that we're blinded by crude imitations of the sentiment.
on another note, cheers for jenny lewis on backing vocals, here and on almost every other song on 'give up'! her rilo kiley is just as amazing as ben's death cab and jimmy's dntel. |
