okay, the line "the only thing that i regret is that i never let you hold me back"...what do you (as in the general songmeanings public) think it means? initially i assumed that it meant that he didn't let her hold him back as in holding him in her arms, because he was too angry/disconnected from her. then i thought that maybe he's saying hold me back as in stopping someone from doing something. i'm not sure which meaning fits the context of the song better. any thoughts? |

i was formerly "blueskiesbrokenheart", hopefully you'll find my new user name more acceptable. although you'll probably chalk it up to a reference to either "all star me" by saves the day or chuck taylors. fyi, it's neither.
i listen to cap'n jazz, and i've heard of the other bands you listed. however, i don't think that listening to them makes be a better person and gives me the right to insult other people's taste in music. you don't like this song, fine, say that. but is it the worst thing in the world if other people do? are you going to lose sleep thinking about how many kids with the word "emo" in their username said that this song "fucking ROX!!!1"? i would think such a hardcore elitist as yourself would have better things to do than bitch about hot rod circuit on songmeanings.net. aren't you too busy buying vintage t-shirts, going to shows, and tracking down 7"s?
note: if you were planning on retaliating with "don't YOU have better things do to?" or something of that nature, i'll say right now that i don't. after all, what would you expect from an hrc-loving ameoba like me? |

i think the song is about two people in a relationship whose lives are about to take separate directions (maybe they're going to different colleges, or one of them is leaving to tour with a band, something like that.) they're trying to decide if they should continue the relationship or just break it off now.
"if i don't let myself be happy now, then when?"

i listened to this song (and the entire clarity album) the whole summer before i left for college, and this song always stuck out to me. especially the lines "this time it's on my own" and "good things won't let you wait." when you're about to take a chance and leave everything you know behind, that's good to hear. |

i disagree. don't get me wrong, i love the complexity of lyrics by brand new, boys night out, dashboard confessional, etc., but limbeck's achieved what they have yet to do: they've written a song about an ex that is neither bitter nor regretful. their lyrics are honest and have a simplicity that you can really relate to. sometimes a little goes a long way. |

to me, this song is about the inevitability of growing older and facing problems as your relationships grow more serious. maybe you're finding that the thrill young love once had is fading, and you just can't take it anymore. the line "i lie for only you...and i lie well" is so lovely and haunting. kind of like the rest of the song. |

i'm surprised no one's mentioned the line "i realize that everyone who lives will someday die and die alone." it's one of my favorites. did anyone else detect a slight donnie darko reference with that? |
