without doubt one of the darkest and saddest songs i've heard. A story of a man who has lost his one true love and has never recovered. he is left alone in a world that has become meaningless since the departure of this woman, who was the 'sun' in his world. now that she's gone, there's no sun and his world is black. (how quick the sun can drop away). Everything is "tattooed in black" - this darkness is permanent and cannot be reversed. There's no light at the end of the tunnel. all that remains are the heart-wrenching memories that he can't let go. this woman was eddie's everything... he envisioned a lifetime with her by his side. he 'sears' as he sees children playing because he realizes that he will never start a family with this woman - it burns him up. it's unclear how long has passed since she left him, but its obvious eddie has not come to terms with this loss, as evident in the haunting final few lines. He feels empty, neither living nor dead, and spends his life dwelling on would should have been. he's left holding the broken pieces of what was everything to him. a very sad state to be in that i would not wish upon anyone. It has been captured perfectly, not only by eddies vocals but also the eery guitar that closes the song. witnessing this song live and hearing eddie scream "we belong together" over and over again was so depressing but truely amazing. |

| To me this song tells the story of a girl called taylor who turned from being a "good girl" with a good future, into a street worker who has lost her way in life. She once was respected by society, but is now useful only to "the man with the money in his pocket". Taylor realizes this and procedes to take her own life at the end of the song ("and taylor finds a better world, and taylor's gonna run away") | |
