| The Kinks – Phenomenal Cat Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I've always assumed the places he went to were meant to be puns ... Sardin-ia and Kat-hmandu are obvious, and maybe Cowes for milk, but what about the Scilly Isles and Sahara? | |

| Pavement – Box Elder Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I felt exactly the same way about a town and a girl a few months ago. For me it's not just about breaking up with the girl, it's also about being sick of the whole town, the people and the places and the whole community ... the girl thinks she can keep him there, but na, sorry. | |

| Nico – These Days Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Actually title correction not lyric correction - the title should acknowledge that it's a Jackson Browne cover. | |
| The Rolling Stones – Love In Vain Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's not actually a lyric correction but I think the title should acknowledge that it's a Robert Johnson cover. | |
| The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| There is plenty of good 80s music, the 80s was the first decade where the mainstream music started to suck, but it's also probably the best decade for indie music of which the smiths are one of many examples of awesome bands. | |
| The Kinks – Days Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I see this song as representing the "acceptance" phase of the grieving process. He was hurt, he's still hurt, but he sees the light at the end of the tunnel, and he's discovered his resilience. He's going to be all right. And he's not angry at her anymore. He can truly bless her and thank her for the beauty and the joy that she gave him in the short time they were together - the anger and the pain will fade, but these memories will be with him forever. She took his heart and broke it, but he knew that was likely to happen, and he took the risk, and he doesn't regret it ... it was worth it for the sacred days she gave him. | |
| The Kinks – Days Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| and with regard to popularity, in the 60s it was actually possible to be wildly popular and still friggin awesome. | |
| The Kinks – Days Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| hey man all of those bands are good, you dont have to choose between them. | |
| The White Stripes – Lord, Send Me an Angel Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Well of course he was big on the ego, it's the blues. The live version I used to have of this song has the line "Black man, give you a dollar, and he don't think it's anything strange. White man give you a dollar he expect back ninety five cents change". Not sure if this is a McTell line or a White addition but it's hilarious. | |
| The Velvet Underground – Lady Godiva's Operation Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Well it seems like a sexchange, right up till the bit about the knife being removed from the brain. Could it be about a lobotomy, but deliberately designed to sound like a sexchange until the end? Who knows. Yeah, it is pretty similar to As Ugly As I Seem isnt it. hmmmm | |
| The White Stripes – Red Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Not "able", I mean "about" a certain guy or girl. | |
| The White Stripes – Red Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Oh how I love this song... I just have to say that... I don't really have any suggestions as to what it's about... I guess it's one of those songs that a lot of people can interpret to be able a certain girl or guy... I sure can | |
| The White Stripes – Little Ghost Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I love this stupid little song way too much. It's so genius how it sounds so happy and yet it's really about quite a sad thing of some guy's imaginary "ghost" girlfriend (when taken literally at least). My favourite part is the slow part and then the triumphant "I fell in love with a little ghost and that is all" just after. | |
| The White Stripes – Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I agree that it's the placebo affect, and I agree that it rocks. It's so cool how "Acetaminophen" sounds like "I-see-the-minophen"... and it's then followed by "You see the medicine". Brilliant. I thought it was "I see the benefit" when I first heard it. But "Acetaminophen" is so much better. |

| The White Stripes – Ball and Biscuit Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This truly is their masterpiece, but I laugh at comparisons to Smells Like Teen Spirit. Nirvana's masterpiece was Anyeurism. Smells Like Teen Spirit and the other songs you mentioned are the most famous song by each band. The White Stripes version of them would be Seven Nation Army or hopefully soon Blue Orchid. It's definitely a sexy song and most likely about sex. I love it how he uses similar imagery in lines following each other, like Let's have a ball and a *biscuit* *sugar* And take our *sweet* little time about it And we'll get *clean* together And I'll find me *soapbox* where I can shout it |

| The White Stripes – Little Ghost Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The real lyrics are: Little ghost, little ghost One I'm scared of the most Can you scare me up a little bit of love? I'm the only one that sees you, And I can't do much to please you And it's not yet time to meet the lord above The first woman that I met her I did not expect a specter When I shook her hand I really shook a glove She looked into me so sweetly And we left the room discreetly No one else could know the secret of our love Little ghost, little ghost One I'm scared of the most Can you scare me up a little bit of love? I'm the only one that sees you, And I can't do much to please you And it's not yet time to meet the lord above Every morning I awoke And I see my little ghost Wond'rin' if it's really her that's lying there I lean to touch her and I whisper But not brave enough to kiss her When I held her I was really holding air Little ghost, little ghost One I'm scared of the most Can you scare me up a little bit of love? I'm the only one that sees you, And I can't do much to please you And it's not yet time to meet the lord above Though I try my best to keep it There really was no secret Must have looked like I was dancing with the wall No one else could see this apparition But because of my condition I fell in love with a little ghost and that was all Little ghost, little ghost One I'm scared of the most Can you scare me up a little bit of love? I'm the only one that sees you, And I can't do much to please you And it's not yet time to meet the lord above No, it's not yet time to meet the lord above |

| The White Stripes – The Nurse Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Yeah it's about betrayal by those you trust to look after you (nurse, maid). Then the chorus is from the point of view of the one who ends up betraying the one they're "never gonna let down". And so is the last line of the second verse: "But promises open a door to be broken to me". Like Take, Take, Take; pretty obvious lyrics but really good ones. | |
| The White Stripes – The Nurse Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Freaky cool lyrics. Great song once you've got used to the marimba. | |
| The White Stripes – Passive Manipulation Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| love this little song. i wish meg sung more often, like maybe two songs per album or at least one full length one. | |
| The White Stripes – I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| not more incest. I don't really like this song, in fact it would be my least favourite. Extremely excellent album, but I wouldn't mind if it ended at track 12. | |
| Pavement – Cut Your Hair Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
* advertising looks and chops a must no big hair!! In the early 90s grunge and other alternative was cool and hair metal was no longer. Big hair bands weren't selling. * darlin' don't you go and cut your hair do you think it's gonna make him change? Even though they didn't have big hair, that didn't make them any good; there were still crap bands around. * music scene is crazy, bands start up each and every day i saw another one just the other day * songs mean a lot when songs are bought I agree wholeheartedly with huntmstr: Further, this song is mostly about the crap bands that were popping up everywhere during the post grunge expolsion in the early 90's. It was a statement about the death of glam-rock and insurgence of corporate influenced grunge. * but i don't care, i care, i really don't care did you see the drummer's hair? This is about people caring about image (specific example: hair) and not about music. So I agree with huntmstr, but I also think it's about image and judging by what's on the surface. |

| Pixies – Monkey Gone to Heaven Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Zyklon J, track 5 is Here Comes Your Man, not I Bleed. Deddatlas' thing could work... seems maybe a bit far fetched though. Then again.... who knows? It is a good point about tracks 5,6,7 being about man, the devil and God. And since the album cover seems to portray this song, maybe the number 13 is significant? | |
| Meat Puppets – Lake Of Fire Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| But it was Kurt singing, right? Cobain I mean. I thought Nirvana did play along with Chris and Curt... anyway I think the song is mocking Christians, saying they try and scare people with tales of heaven and hell. Saying "Bad folks" shows the normal misconception of the Christian message, and the second verse is about people getting worked up about something that the writer obviously doesn't believe in, "the angels and the devils fighting to make them their own". | |
