ok this is my in depth explanation of the song. how i look at it: "Sara spelled without an ‘h’ was getting bored On a Peavey amp in 1984 While Zak without a ‘c’ tried out some new guitars Playing Sara-with-no-h’s favourite song" ---this verse is about zak at a music store (guitar center or equivelent) with his girlfriend sara. hes trying out some guitars and shes sitting on the amp getting bored and hes playing her fav. songs. "Often Sara would have spells where she lost time She saw the future, she heard voices from inside The kind of voices she would soon learn to deny Because at home they got her smacked" ---a background on her little schizophrenia problem. she sees the future and they try to shut her up and all. Zak called his dad about layaway plans And Sara told the friendly salesman that: “You’ll all die in your cars, And why’s it gotta be dark? And you’re all working in a submarine” ---i think "layaway plans" refers to him planning to BUY the guitar and hes calling his dad for money or something. and sara starts going crazy while hes talking. man.. this song is too funny. i love his lyrics. i think the line "ya'll don't know what it's like.. being male, middle class and white" is so funny because i think that a majority of the people out there are just that. wow this song is amazing.. i don't think i could ever get sick of it. but onthestereo's right.. it is an acquired taste. when i first heard the song i was didn't care for it much, but after hearing it a few times i couldn't go back. "Ambulance X scours the tanning complex for repunzels rotting in their skin cooking coffins." thats great.. just because i am OPPOSED to tanning. and i love the last chorus. i just want to dance. well anyways. as far as what it means. ambulance X is obviously doing the rescuing, while ambulance Y is reporting the bad news. maybe i'll add more later. |
