| i just wanted to input that in a half dream i think i figured out what "simulataneous release" means. supposedly kurt cobain went out of this world by injecting himself with heroin and then shooting himself. now as for the song, it's very otherworldly to me and very special. not many songs can make me feel like this one does. i felt this way when sugar came out from system of a down way back in 98. well anyway, the solo at the end is so incredible and i just have to put everything down and play along on my air guitar. the video is awesome too, it's great that they're not afraid to tell you who their influences are and who they consider ridiculous like maybe the glam metal a little bit. if i had to guess when anthony keidis says "gone to fast" he doesn't just mean kurt he means all the great music stars we've lost in a similar way including kurt. | |
| David Gilmour – On an Island Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song to me, is a throwback to the classic pink floyd. if it had not been crosby and nash singing on this song it would have been the almost ethereal, otherworldly vocal coupling of gilmour and waters, which would have just made everyone's heads spin in wonder. as to the lyrical content, i just can't express the feeling i get when the chorus kicks in. in a word: beautiful. this song is a great work of art, mentally, physically, and most important, musically. it sends chills up and down my spine. there are only a handful of songs that can do that to me and most of them are pink floyd. let me toss you some examples: "time" "breathe" "breathe reprise" "comfortably numb" "echoes" and most importantly in my own mind "wish you were here". non pink floyd songs include "a.d.d." and "shimmy" by system of a down, "in my life" by the beatles, "m.e." by gary numan, etc. let me just say one more thing, because this is getting a little long winded now: this love that david gilmour has for his wife, who helped extensively with the lyrical compostion, i hope to feel that way about a woman some day, because like this song, a woman, her entire being, is also like a work of art, the highest in the land that you can attain. i do not mean that in a possessive, sexist way. what i mean to say is that females are all queens in their own right, and deserve to be treated as such, and it is a sad state of affairs when a beautiful creature such as the one i have mentioned isn't even wished a happy valentine's day or a happy birthday, or even a happy mother's day. as much as this thought pisses me off, i keep two things in mind: "blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see god" and "the meek shall inherit the earth." AM I CRAZY OR WHAT? skip to the loo!!! | |

| i think this is all hilarious. i love modest mouse, and i think good news is the best album of the 5 or six that i have heard, granted it's the only one that i have actually taken the time to read the lyrics along to the songs, but anyway... first of all, people, you need to wake up and drop these stupid ass labels like "indie" and "emo" and "punk" and stupid bullshit like that, that's the first step to recovery. that's what the whoring music companies love to see. many people above are right on the money when they shit on people who just can't stand to see "their" band get the recognition they deserve. cry me a river. once again, go find another band to horde and keep a big secret. lastly to chip spitz: what the hell is so wrong with having a simplistic tune or lyrics? if you only like complex songs, then good for you. what it comes down to is, everybody has their own tastes, so if anyone else wants to try and dictate everyone else in the ways of music, do me a favor and stop yourself short, save yourself some time. listen to what you want to listen to, and learn to live with other people listening to what the want to listen to. that's the beauty of it, we're not all the same. i do agree that mtv and fm radio are in the toilet, and once again, that's because they're being buttfucked by dirty money-grubbing corporations. just remember that what you hear and see on these god-forsaken media is what they want you to see and hear, which is whatever they think will move the most units off the shelves. | |

| i agree completely with obsessivetendencies and deep and down. the very first time i heard this song listening to the album when i first bought it, i thought it was talking about how america has been lulled to sleep by george w. bush and his cronies. i could also almost believe that it's a drug singing to it's user, except the parts that ruin that theory are the lines "swaying to the rhythm of a new world order and..." and "count bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums" and most especially "the boogeymen are coming" (which is my very favorite part of the whole song) which to me refers to bush overhyping the terrorist threat | |
