The way I personally view the song is a subconcious self hate. The "I" is the other part of Reznors mind, his negative side. Telling him what to do, how to live. Each line is simply a reference to any sort of "exit" from normal life, something to grab hold of, to be anything but yourself. Dragging his entire life down because the positive side of him has seemingly given up, the true person he is. And so the title, Mr. Self Destruct. I also firmly believe the entire album is a story of sorts. Fortunately, with sensational music, with such pure emotion as this, we all see things as we wish. |

| The box you type your comment in asks the question, "What does this song mean to you?." And from the amount of posts here compared to just about any song played on the radio, and shoved into your head,... well it means to me that not enough people have their eyes open to their own surroundings. And are too concerned with nothing more than their own self worth. And even that is no good because you have hidden in someone else. | |
