wilsoncsean, is that blog authoritative? I can't say what the word is, but pointing to one arbitrary source to correct another doesn't solve much. More importantly, what the hell are the geeks? You can analyze some National songs 'til you're blue in the face with no results, but still. |

| Dropkick Murphys – Black Velvet Band Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I reckon they changed it from Belfast for a few reasons. One, as a nod to their hometown fans. Two, just to put their own unique spin on it - after all, why not. Most significantly, though, maybe they didn't want to associate themselves with a city in Northern Ireland. | |
| The White Stripes – You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told) Lyrics | 18 years ago |

originality is, dare i say it, overvalued in modern western culture. not everything has to be mind-blowingly creative. it just has to work. hell, the whole point of blues is to be as unoriginal as possible. yeah, this stuff sounds like zep. i say that's a good thing. zep kicks ass, and so does this. good artists copy. great artists steal. - picasso |

| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – A Bottle of Buckie Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The last verse may refer to Northern Ireland; when he refers to having 'been back,' he might be grouping all the UK together for simplicity and lyricism's sake. However, the rest of the song definitely refers to Scotland, as Buckfast is extremely popular among teenage hooligans known as 'neds,' who also tend to wear Burberry. While Buckfast is also popular in certain other regions in England and Ireland, the term 'ned' is exclusive to Scotland. | |
| Mistah F.A.B. – Ghost Ride It Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I'm pretty sure this is my new favorite song. Anyone who is stupid enough to actually try this crap probably deserves to get slightly hurt, but hyphy might just be the next big thing. | |
| (+44) – Little Death Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The term "little death" carries a double meaning - whether intended or not, who knows. The French term for orgasm is "petit mort," or "little death." Yes, an orgasm does make life more meaningful. |

| Mae – The Sun And The Moon Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Quote: /*****Ok, honestly, people need to stop relating this incredible band to God. I don't know about anyone else, but it's just irritating when I'm trying to look for the meaning of a song or lyrics I get bombarded with God and Jesus.******/ Art is open to multiple interpretations, that's what makes it art. It's irritating for me when I'm searching for meaning and people try to stifle others' opinions. The Christian interpretations aren't rejections of other possible interpretations, nor should any secular interpretation be a rejection of anything else. Open your mind. Don't be a fucking fascist. this whole album is about the euphoria experienced on an acid trip |

| Pedro the Lion – Almost There Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Pemberley, as a fellow Christian, I completely respect your views and understand where you're coming from. At the same time, though, when I hear words like yours, I can't help but wonder certain things. And I don't mean to undermine anyone's viewpoints; I just can't understand them. And that's probably just my views on life getting in the way. Discernment is a big part of my everyday mentality, but it's not to judge what I should expose myself to; it's what messages are positive and what ones aren't. And I gain positive things from both. In my eyes, all art is beautiful, because humans create it, and humans and everything about them (even their sins!) are inherently beautiful. In this sense, anything humans create is divinely inspired, because God dwells in all of us, whether we acknowledge it or not. So even if lyrics, on the surface, are disrespectful and dishonoring to God, they truly honor God. In reference to the Philippians verse, to me, just about everything non-contradictory to natural law, in its own morbid way, can be true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable. Maybe it wasn't intended to be, but I guess I've gotten myself to the point where I can see Christ in everyone and everything, including evil deeds and evil people. There's something vaguely beautiful about the sin/redemption cycle, even without redemption, and that's why I love bazan's lyrics. I probably sound like a hippie, but I often wonder why most Christians see so much evil in this world that's to be avoided, when I see so much beauty. If a song brings about an inclination toward sin in oneself, by all means, avoid it. But I just can't understand how so many people can't turn that stumbling block (romans 14!) into a stepping stone. |
