| Tonic – You Wanted More Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think bfng has got it right... He DOES love the girl, he wants to give it all, but can't, because she's DEMANDING it, thereby showing that her feelings aren't sincere. It's just one of those things. You would do anything for the person you love, but the person that you love should love you back so much that they'd never require it from you. Love is mutual, among all the other things. | |

| I'm just glad Nirvana existed as a launching pad for Dave Grohl. Not that Nirvana wasn't great, but the birth of grunge and the death of hair-metal wasn't the David and Goliath case that everyone makes it out to be. Hair Metal had cannibalized itself so bad (witness Spinal Tap) that it was nothing more than the "Wile E Coyote" hanging by a slowly unraveling thread over a canyon just waiting to be sent to it's fate by any new thing. Even now, Grunge already sounds dated to me, while the majority of the Foo Fighter's stuff is timeless. That's why it's Everlong.. He promises not to stop when fate says "when." Probot, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam, Killing Joke, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stoneage, Tenacious D, Nirvana.. Dave has contributed to all these projects/bands at some point over the years. Grunge is dead. Emo is already tired and old. Rap-Rock is cliche. But Dave has done something very few people achieve. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect everyone else's, I'm just expressing mine. Don't be mad because I think and feel. There are few albums that are as good today as they ever were. The "Blue Album" by Weezer, The "White Album" by The Beatles. "The Colour and the Shape" is another (are we noticing a pattern here?). It's more than a decade old. And people are STILL commenting about how this music is changing their lives. Thanks for all your contributions Dave, you have no idea how much it has meant to me. | |

The greatest thing about troubled relationships are the songs they produce. I think we've all had the experience of knowing it was over long before we were ready to stand on our own, or willing to admit it (Seriously, how many on-again off-again relationships ever come to anything?). And not just BF/GF relationships. With family (Have ever told your Dad you're already gone?) or at work ( I once walked off a job got on my motorcycle never to look back when my boss said my mom was hot one too many times). The silence too can be after the break-up (like music_obsessed09 said) or a continuation of the lack of communication from before (With my relationships, the first sign of break-up is when we stop talking). Basically, I love this song 'cause it embodies what I WANT to feel when I break-up (I'm already gone, I will be strong, I don't feel sorry) while hinting at what I really DO feel (Hurt to hate, I'm feeling the strain [How can you feel the strain if you really don't care?], I feel stupid, the tone of the song, etc.) In the words of the verve pipe.. I'm just a jerk.. but a hero's what I wanna be! |

| Chevelle – Panic Prone Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I interpret this to mean that your duty is to be kind and honest, and not worry about the consequences. For instance, We've all seen bums out beggin' for money before, and we all know that 90% want beer or drugs. Do you not give them money, knowing that you probably are keeping them for buying more drugs or booze, or do you loan them the cash, knowing that you might be helping them out of a jam? My personal solution is to say,"Hey, you hungry? I don't have any cash but I'll take to McDonalds and buy ya something. Jump in." That way, if they really want food, they'll come, if they want money to buy jumk, they won't. Of Course, being a male in good shape and having a concealed weapons permit pretty eliminates any worries about being raped or anything like that. No, I'm kidding. The point is, is it our our duty to judge others, or to just give willingly, regardless. Anyway, read through the lyrics with this frame of mind, and I'm sure you'll make the connections. If not, then I'm probably out on a limb. | |

Once Again, m1nu5 th3 b34r has got it right. I'll also echo what he says about it being a song meaing site, not a "THIS BAND RAWKS!" site. USually, when a person says thhis, "THIS BAND RAWKS!" It means they saw the video on MTV, thought it was cool, and posted. In another 3 months they willn never listen to TBS again. And guys, SERIOUSLY, not every song by every band is about porking! Maybe, you guys should have a little more sex, and clear your minds.I'm also going to agree with Chriscom83. My best friend's wife always says, "this song is sad" when TBS is on. Yeah, they have some songs about sad things like getting dumped or catching your Girlfriend cheating, but they don't sing it in a sad way. They sing it in a way that makes you want to Rock ON! wiith life. Pain heals if you let it. If you keeping picking at the wounds though, they get infected and fester, causing even more injury. Yeah, you got dumped. Cry one or two times. Then get on with it. If you suck it up and move on,, the sun will come out. "Fortune Favors the Brave" as Aeneid Virgil says. He's a Roman poet for those who don't know. Similar to HOmer for the Greeks. Anyways, Later, good luck with all your problems, peace out. RevRed |

First of all, it'sthese are HARDER times not these are horrid times. Alright, here's something WAY out there for you guys. I interoret this song to be a commentary on the current American trend of trying to solve all our problems with prescription drugs. For instance, 1 in 3 kids are on medication for ADD. I personally believe a lot of "disease" is in people's head. Also, parents are looking for an easy way out, and not having to raise their kids and deter bad habits, like not paying attention in school. They go to the doc and say "Hey, my kid sucks at school!" and the doc says, "Must be ADD, take this." "anyone can build what I have built... same white pills" line. Refers to the fact that anyone can get the prescription, and have the same results of "taking my pain away.: or eliminating a bad habit. "Alie, kiss with open eyes, and she's not breathing back" A false gesture of caring from a mom giving her kid pills to rid them of ADD, saying it's to help them, but really she doesn't want the responsibility of raising them. And she not comunicating, not giving any feedback to their lives. "Anything but bother me" I can't let the fact that she doesn't really care bother me, "nevermind these are harder times" That's the dame excuse the parents are giving for giving their kids drugs, "Rasiing a kid ain't what it used to be, we need drugs to help!" "I'd never thought I'd walk away from you.. false sense of accomplishment" Walkingaway from his bad habit, but he didn't really, cuase he only did it cause he was on drugs! "Anyone can see my flaw..say thy're above this.." People outside of the prescribed normal range these days get picked on hard-core in school. That's another reason to give kids drugs, to get them to act "normal," anyway, blah, blah, blah, this is way out there, not right at all, but it's fun to think of this song that way. try it. RevRed |

When TBS writes about sex, they make it pretty obvious.. take Little Devotional for instance. Of course, that is only my opinion, and half the beauty of TBS' music is that it IS open to many different interpetations, allowin them to reach out to a much greater fanbase, All those obsessed with sex, those whose lives are defined by their relationships, and I'm sure there are more than one or two people who somehow interpret this song in relation to a drug additction. You never get this with Rap. They pretty much just say, I'm in the club, gettin' laid and gettin' high, aren't you jealous? I for one believe that TBS is intelligent enough to realize that realtionships are more important than sex (take there's no I in team for instance), and that the bulk of their music is about dealing with those relationships. As far as Great Romances of the 20th century, I believe that nakakatakot has it exactly right.. Reavolution_Red |

LOL. Well, iI totally see girl in this one, probably cause of recent events. Maybe it is about random events, but I doubt it. TBS usually has some meaning to their songs. Alright.. my opinion is that this is a song where he finally realises that a girl doesn't want to make it work anymore, and he just wants the truth. "I'm sorry it took me so long, to come around" Sorry I've been oblivious to the obvious signs that you want to end it, and to understand that it's over now. The section of, "your famous last words started.." This is when he he went to see her, and she's gonna end it first thing in the morning.. but she wants to sleep in a little, cause she's not quite up to the task yet. "You'll find me here in nine minutes. In bed." "every word that I said, was just a big mistake" Everything he told her during the span of their relationship was a mistake "ans the ones you adapt, keeping me away." She twists his words, making it seem like it's his fault. "I will never make another promise without you" He saying that all the promises they made to eachother like, I'll love you forever or whatever, were a mistake. And he realises that nothing is guranteed when it comes to realtionships, so he won't make the mistake of promising a girl anything ever again. "So pace the..." He's saying, you know what, hang out at your place, alone and miserable, like that's what you want from life, cause you didn't want me! "I'm sorry.." Too bad i didn't realise this sooner. It would've been easier on both of us. "There's a secret I've been perfecting, I swore I wouldn't but you let me." I've been supsecting for a long time that you wanted to cut it off, and I said I'd always trust you, but you didn't give my a reason to trust you. "I'm comfortably confused, and you've gotten so removed" I don't know what the crap is up, and you're drifting off. "you know I, I could take the place of those pills." Perhaps she drowns her sorrows in pill-popping, which is popular, or she's taking medication for depresion, also common. He saying that he could've been her support. This is his last offer for her to come back. "Ocean Blue, paint it white, now who you gonna call tonight?" Think of a of piece of art with a beautiful occen landscape on it. The long time that went into creating it, the ocean, meaningful, deep, pleasant, relaxing. Now imagine someone completey blanking it out, painting it white. eliminating any trace of it's existence, even though it was months in the creation. He feels she is doing the same to a deep meaningful realationship. He asks, who are you gonna call, who is going to listen to your thoughts, who's gonna help you with your problems now? Who's gonna care? Then the promise to not make any more promises is repeated, and he says, "so pace.." or in other words.. screw you. "we paint our sins on the ceiling" This one is a bit of a stretch, but has anyone spoken their deepest thoughts out loud while laying in bed? That your girl is cheating? Or anything of that nature? Painted your ceiling with the your sins, of doubting she was true? "I keep them glued to my chest" I don't dare say my sins out loud "it keeps me close like a promise kept." I keeps me from doubting you, like keeping my promise to never suspect you weren't true(There's a secret I've been perfecting) "If I talk in my sleep, will you just keep trying" If I let it slip by accident, that I don't think you want to be together anymore, will please just keep us together. "If I give it up.." If I tell you that I think you're not true anymore, willl you please just keep us together, "If I talk in my sleep, it's gone" This is him admitting to himself that if he let's his secret slip, they are over. The "say yes" phrase all over the song represents him wanting her to tell him the truth.. "Just say yes, I'm right, I know that if I let it slip, it's over." And I"m sorry it took me song long to realize you didn't want it anymore. And I want to know, for sure, where you want to be.. with me, or alone pacing the stairs of your apartment. Well, that's my take. Tell me what you think. Revolution_Red |

I also agree that's it's about ending a realtionship, but I think it's the girl that's broke it off. It's one of those deals where she says "I still care, and we aren't apart, I just want to date other people." They are probably long-distance, and she's basically putting him on hold, to she if she can find something better, and of she can't she'll come back. He really cares for her very much, but he knows he's "on hold" and he doesn't want to put up with it, but as long as there is a chance of them getting back together, he can't forget or move on. He needs to her to say to him, out-loud, that he needs to move on. Until she shuts him down completely, with no chance of renewal, he can't do anything about the fact that he wants to stay and make it work, no matter what. So the song starts, he's said, you're putting me on ohold, and she says no, it's all in your head. And he just seconds away from bursting, cause he NEEDS to know what's going on between them.. "come untie the knot, say you won't care." He basically begging her to do something. Say she doesn't care so he can move on. "You try to avoid it, but there's not a doubt." She's caught. And she knows it, but she doesn't want to lose the fish off the line as it were "And there's one thing that I can do nothing about" Andthat is that he cares too much to leave on his own. He needs to be booted, even though he knows he's being played. "Well all that we need is just a reaction" Say anything to my accusation of being on hold.. please. But the thruth is too much ti ask from a girl that's already been playing you. "If chasing our dreams is just a distraction, I want to remember that I know I can't go back " When this iis all over, and he knows he still cares, and he wants to go back, he wants to remebmer that she told him it was over. for good. And the rest of the song is him pleading for a reaction. He wants her to cut it off, cause he can't leave until it's gone. There's my take. |

| You're probably right. It's probably more like.." Hey, If we end up together, I wanna be in the south, cause that's home" and she's like .. umm.. no.. | |

Dude, has anybody had one of those girlfriends that gets "confused" all the time? They start liking other guys, or aren't sure if they want a serious relationship, or whatever their problem is. I had one like that recently, and I think that is what this song is about. For you consideration: He goes to this girl's house, to pick her up... She says, "Umm, I want to talk to you about something.." And this is where the song starts.. "Were gonna die like this you know, miserable and old.." These are his thoughts as she starts talking.. here we go again this will go on forever. "Really got it hand it you" I've got to say, you are the record for this kind of stuff. "Are you positive? Absolutely sure?" Is this for REAL this time? "Just get dressed don't do this," Come on this happens over and over again, let's go out already. They take off on the date, the next section is the conversation of the date. She says she was listening to Miles Davis before he came over, and his music is influencing her thoughts. She is confused, she doesn't know if she wants to get serious or bail out. He says, do we really need to talk about this, can't we enjoy what we have? And his attitude of here we go again, makes her decide to break it off, hence the addition of "When we get home we are through" I'm from the Carolinas, so I believe the next part is him talking about how he was engrained in his youth with certain traditions (as is common in the south) One such tradition is courtship, or the idea of dating a long time (2 years or more) before making any serious decisions about a relationship. Honestly, it's hard to adapt to other places, (Like utah where I am now) when people get engaged after a month. Her talking having "been there once ot twice" is her talking other relationships with southern boys. And he says, you never gave the long-term thing a chance. "Did you ever think we could keep living like thieves" is him saying, taking anything and running, like a relationshiip, doesn't work out in the end. The rest of the song is him and her going back and forth on the ride home.. are you sure? Yes. We're through. Great. Are you sure? and so on until the end where they both decide.. we're through. ok. that's it. it's not about sex. |
