Michael Bublé – Feeling Good Lyrics 20 years ago
Actually, this song is already being used for commercials by ESPN (with permission) for the 2005 World Series of Poker. I personally feel that fits, as it has that sound of the old Vegas era a la Sinatra.

Dobie Gray – drift away Lyrics 20 years ago
Wow, no comments on this song? I'm rather suprised. Then again, most probably only remember this song for the Unkle Kracker version.

Not that there's anything wrong with that version, but I love this version as well. Very simple, soulful sound with great use of the guitar.

Love the message of the song as well. People on this site probably get the whole idea of music being more than sound, and about how it can become an experience far beyond that of just listening.

This is a classic, and one of my favorites.

U2 – Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own Lyrics 21 years ago
It amazes me how much emotion Bono shows within this song. Its almost as if you can feel his heart, he is so into it. The rest of what's happening seems secondary to Bono's voice, but it all complements each other so well. The level that this song reaches is simply unbelievable, and it is by far my favorite song on the 'Dismantle' album.

I don't know if it was unfortuante circumstance that made this the first single off Say You Will. The war had been coming, a lot of people knew it, and so it may have been timed to release when it did. They may not have waited it to be so close together, but I'm not sure it was unfortunate timing.

I definately agree on the vagueness of the lyrics though. I still can't say for sure what they are taking about, or even if they may be intentionally misleading. Something tells me they will say what they meant... eventually.

Mick Jagger – Old Habits Die Hard Lyrics 21 years ago
Off the soundtrack to the 2004 remake of Alfie, and winner of a Golden Globe for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture.

The meaning is somewhat obvious; about a guy who seems to be unable to get over his past love life, which also fits into the film it was used in. As far as Jagger's music goes, I think this is one of his better solo projects. He's being himself here; he's not trying to to rock out like you would expect the lead singer of the Rolling Stones to do. He seems to understand what he's singing here, and it carries into the performance. It's still superceded by some of his Stones work, but it stands well on its own.

The song's only real downfall was the film it was used in died a quick death at the box office, which has somewhat limited the song's shelf life on the radio. Maybe Mick really should just stick to the stones and tour for another 100 million or so; at the very least, it's more lucrative.
