Ok so I think that its obvious that this song is Anti-war. Not necessarily anti every war, just this one and this song illustrates the bad things about war. I do like the way this song sounds and even though the subject is not the happiest it manages to have an uplifting feel.
On another note I guess reading the comments on this song has opened my mind to a couple of things. Maybe its because I am English and don't understand the American way. But most of us are sat here in england thinking how can anyone support bush so I am surprised to find so many people defending him. It's not a bad thing just interesting |

I agree with everyone. It seems to be ablout having feelings for someone but being scared to say it because you think that they don't feel the same. I like the line "I'll live with never knowing, if knowings going to change" Because in that sort of situation your never sure whats going to happen if you tell the person, is it going to change the way they think about you for better meaning a relationship or worse ruining your relationship so you'd rather live without taking the risk. But during the chorus it gives a more positive message that you can't fight the way you feel and so you shouldn't fight it. |

I always used to thinkit was about suicide and trying to help someone out of the mess that they were in.
"And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life."
I like this line, you never know what sort of effect your actions have on other people.
If you knew that by saying that one thing to someone or by staying up with them all night, you could potentially save their life or stop them doing something stupid then you would, everyone would.
But most of the time it isn't clear what effect you would have and so you might not do the simple thing that could save that persons life. Which you would have done if you'd known that it would save it.
I helped out one of my mates once and it was only months afterwards when he explained to me what me helping really meant to him. It was just one simple thing that I did out of kindness but I hate to think what would have happened if I hadn't done it. |

I'd say it's definitely about animal rights.I thought about it as the planets on the edge at the moment and one step could take it to the place where its destroyed and it's ready to fall and die if someone doesn't do something.
I also though about it as he's on the edge of what right and whats wrong, and most people don't look down to see what could happen to the planet if they carry on hense "But don't look down take a step". They live in denial of whats at stake if they don't.
Later on it seems like he talks of when he realised that something that was wrong. "I found a shoulder to lean on, And I thought of a reason to live all by itself" Basically I think this is about how people lean on the planet using it as their home and as their resource and think its only there for them to do so, whereas actually it has a reason to be there for itself.
And "I took one last look from the heights that I once loved, And then I ran like hell" He used to stand on the edge and not do anything about it while seeing over what was happened and now he's chosing not to be a bystander and to do something about it.
As for the video the first thing i though when I saw the full version was worst things have happened to animals. I'm glad it shocked somepeople and that they find that they can't watch it, just remember thats what you caused for those animals, if you eat meat, eat animal by products, wear leather, buy things tested on animals. |

It's a real sad song and seems to show alot of honesty about someones thoughts of death.
I like the second verse the best. "Its not your fault, you feel ok, it's too late in the day" Because theres no proper way you should feel when someone dies and many people feel guity about feeling a certain way about it when they feel they should be maybe crying and expressing things in the same way as everyone else, and they don't seem to understand it's ok to feel ok, angry or betrayed about it.
"And it's hard to forget
How many lies we told
Or how old we'd grow
Before i said goodbye"
It seems to me to be talking about how dieing isn't normally something you would be thinking about and so you may lie or argue with the person and you think you will know them for a long time and you can't picture or guess the age they will be when they leave you. And it seems like in the first line he is appologising for the hurt he has caused this person because he never quite got to say he was sorry for it before the person died because he wasn't expecting such a sudden end. |

This person seems to think that he is nothing and is not sure what his purpose is in life. All he knows is that he "needs a reason to breath" and is worried that when he is gone is this going to be his "legacy" are people going to remember him for doing nothing. Basically he hates this nothingness and looks at life knowing that to the world he is insignificant compared to the millions of people and the size of the universe and he want someone, God to save him from this nothingness. yeah umm. I think in this song is about being abused by your parents. Maybe not in the physical or sexual sense but in the emotional one. Your parents are some one when you are little you look up to and trust. If they told you that you were worthless and always were having a go at you for not being good enough you would feel betrayed as they were meant to love you. They want dreams for you but they watch them turn into nothing because what they have done to them has turned you into someone different. The person may either self harm because of this or is living in a self destructive lifestyle by either not achieving things or other things like drinking and drugs. |

ok so the video is out now for this. The video is about drunk driving and the damage is causes. In it a girl dies because a guy is drinking and driving. And then he's watching her get out out of the wreckage and taken to hospital. It's so sad. I wouldn't have guessed it was about drink driving because it seems that it can be interpreted in so many different ways. It could be about anything really. |

I never knew that NOFX sung this song. I just assumed that it was blink 182 which when i listened to it had good lyrics but sounded shit. But the propper nofx versions a whole lot better. I just assumed it was about a person who has been dealt the shitty end of the stick. And the end of the longest line just showed that he was so unlucky that he would always end up behind every one else. Though the drigs thing now I think of it makes way more sense. |

I totally can relate to this song. The toliet thingy is true because in out old school we had a set of sinks made by armatage shanks but perhaps. Great song. This song makes me think about when you are younger you go into the world with aims. You all have high aims like doctors and vets and hairdressers. But when you get older you realise this may not be realistic. Things can get in the way of things like this that kids hadn't planned on. You look back on when you were a kid when you thought you could make it big and every thing was so simple and wish you were back there. |

This is my favourite song. Love the into bit. Not sure what it means though. It doesn't seem very popular though not sure why because its one of the best of that albulm. It's got a really good sound to it. It reminds me when my grandad was dying of cancer and all this family that we hadn't seen was gathering round him waiting for him to die only cincrned for him because they though they could get some money. That idea doesn't fit in with the rest of the song though. |

This song really helped me. i desciribed to me how I was feeling and inspired me to hold on even though I thought I couldn't. It really helps to listen to it when your down and see no ther way. If you've seen the video to it, it shows the aftermath to teen suicide, with some parents and family talking about a person they know commiting suicide. Very moving video and song and after listening to the song a ear before seeing the video it's probably on of the most moving I have seen. |

This song was only written because mark read a letter written by a kid who commited suicide. It doesn't promote suicide it really just shows the sadness of it. The somber sound really moves you and isn't that good? Mark said when he commented about the meaning of the song once "At the end of it there's a better way out, there are better things to do than kill yourself." I mean yeah this song is depressing and it is good not to listen to it when u feel down but it's still a decent song and has a lot of meaning to it. Can every one just stop arguing about it. |

This song made me think or me when i was really depressed. The feelings of self harm and thinking that it all could only end in suicide. "it's obvious now that you're scared of yourself" reminded me of how scared I was of what I could do. I know this probably isn't the real meaning but it did reminded me of the promises I made to some of my friends that I wouldn't do any thing stupid even though I felt like it. |
