| Arctic Monkeys – Riot Van Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I don't think that the song is as superficial as just underaged drinking. It seems much more tragic. It seems like the kids who are under aged just want to experience something. Whether it's a low, or a high, or something in between, or maybe they don't want to experience anything at all. I think that's where the sarcasm comes from when the officer asks his age. I really like this song cause it seems so true. It feels like the people in the song, just don't feel complete. And at the end, he realized that even if he tries to fill his life with things that he can "experience" things with, he doesn't ever get fulfilled, because the problem wasn't there, so he just had to "take it in the chin." It seems so sad. | |
| The Killers – Smile Like You Mean It Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I agree with the notion of the speaker giving advice, and looking back upon his life. I think in the first two lines he's giving advice to just anyone-mainly young people in general- and then he gets specific by telling "boys" that one day they'll be men (and they should probably start acting like them) and tells "girls" that life (I feel mainly love) will only make sense with the boy (or the man). He then goes on to say that they should "smile like you mean it", by making smiles precious and smiling when you mean it, and by making smiles feel meaningful. He then goes on about his past memories and talking about his love and watching sunsets on the Eastside and losing track of time, like they were carefree. The next two lines feel as if they have double meanings, as in he's telling the people he's talking to about dreams not being what they used to be, and telling himself at the same time, almost an at moment self realization. He then repeats himself about smiling. The next stanza seems like he has to go because someone is calling his name from the back of a restaurant, and then talking about earlier times , and speaking of someone new being with the person that he was with. To me, its an extremely tragic love song. Not just love of another person, but of times that have passed and he'll never have again. It always makes me want to cry. | |

| Colin Hay – I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I love this song. It's perfect. I mean... there really aren't any words. What I love about this song is that it's plain. It's mellow, and harsh. It's real. And I know that this is extremely cliche, I'm going through this. This song shows the pure love that a person has for another. And its clearly stated that this person isnt stuck and sad, but this person is also in love with the other. And no one can take that away. Not time, not another person. It's THE constant in that person's life. | |
| Björk – I've Seen It All Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| When I saw Dancer In The Dark, this song just stuck with me. I love how bjork's character in that movie is free and actually living when shes singing and she's in her own mind. The director used a very digital raw look for the movie until he got to this part and he used a clear look and i thought it was genius. Bjork displays such emotion with her voice. She soars with her voice. And this song is beautiful, even if you haven't seen the movie. And I think what this song is saying is, don't be caught up with the physical. WIth having to SEE things. It's about being content with who you are, and who you're not. | |

| Björk – Next to Last Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |

The movie was great. I didnt particularly like the way it looked when it was real life, I understand why Lars von Triers did it, but I just can't get into the movie until the musical numbers come around. That's when I'm completely absorbed. It's phenomenal! Bjork was perfect for this role. It's brilliant that everything only looks clear when she's singing. The song speaks for itself. It's stated in the movie that she would always leave at the next to last song, because it was just heartbreaking for her to hear and see the end of the movie. This way, the movie was endless, and always had a merry tone. I hadn't really thought about it, until just now, but I do believe that this might be the saddest song I have ever heard. It's acapella and Bjork just soars with her voice. The ending was completely terrifying for me, because I knew what was coming, just, I was afraid to admit it. I know that she was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2000, and even though Julia Roberts is my favorite actress, when juxtaposing Dancer In the Dark with Erin Brockovich, I feel that Bjork out does her. I feel that Julia Roberts should have received her Oscar for Steel Magnolias, a much better role. |

| Björk – Oceanía Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I think this song means that everyone is unified. Everyone is the same on a certain level. It fits perfectly with the Olympics. At the beginning of the song she says, "One breath away, from Mother Oceania" I think she's stating that we're all so close to each other and all it takes is one breath to get us to that point, because we all descend from Mother Oceania. She goes on saying that we "have done well for yourselves". A comment that a mother would make. In the next stanza she says that , "Every boy is a snake is a lily Every pearl is a lynx is a girl ." I think she means that everyone and everything is connected. I think she's playing off the theory of Evolution. At the point of the song where she sings about continents and islands, she's commenting on how continents are so big to us, but only islands to her. And that what we believe are centuries, are only a blink of an eye for her. She uses this to state that she has been here forever and she is a constant. The hawks and sparrows and the stingrays only reinforces that theory because in the context that she uses them, they all intermingle.; At the end with the sweat, she's stating that she is in everyone one of us. She shows up in her sons and her daughters. It's a great song. |

| Kim Carnes – Bette Davis Eyes Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is about a woman who can see through people; she has Bette Davis's eyes. It's a metaphor for the power in the woman like the power in Bette Davis's eyes. Bette Davis took command of the entire screen, and was monumental. This song is about how a woman is like that. This woman uses that power; assests that Bette Davis very much used. | |
| Badly Drawn Boy – A Minor Incident Lyrics | 21 years ago |

This is probably my favorite song if I had to choose one. I listen to this song all the time. I listen and I cry and it makes me feel better about life. I think that this song is about any person that you love and you have to leave, whether it be a boy/girl friend or parent or just anyone. Its about how that person really was the "stand out" in your life and the fact that you knew them and loved them is the greatest thing in your life, but now that you have to leave its also the saddest. It's the saddest thing in the world, but things are probably not going to change. This is the greatest song for a piece of movie because it conveys the message not just with the words wich you can take at a literal and metaphorical sense, but also the tone of the artist's voice and the tone of the music. It's all so strategically placed. |
