NightNeverSleeps brought up the best point, in my opinion. When you're in a relationship of unrequited love, one cannot help to obsess over the smallest actions of the one they are pining over. A brush against your arm, a smile across the room, a small flirt -- any of which could "inflate" you... until you realize conincidences happen, and this "deflates" you.
"Pretty in white", refers to purity, innocence, and virginity. Obviously, this guy doesn't want "his" girl to do anything sexual with any other guy... it ruins his fantasy of love.
Simply stated... it's a love song in the most dismal of ways. |

The lyrics are hardly open to interpretation; they explain themselves quite well. He describes himself following a girl, and protecting her, where ever she travels. With her, he feels empowered and enlightened... however, he may not completely have the girl as "his". This song cries out to the woman, simply asking her whether she wants him there or not. |

In my humble opinion, I would guess this song represents a car crash... machine head referring to the former feeling of invinciblity the man had before he slammed into something. All lyrics in this song lead to a man struggling to hold onto life. "If I had it all again, I'd change it all..." Who wouldn't? At the end of the song, he is slowly walking away from the crash... and by "walking away from his machine", he is leaving behind his former 'machine head', which symbolized his feeling of invincibility. |
