O.A.R. – About Mr. Brown Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song was written about one of the band's friends who passed away. Not sure on this one though but i think that may be what it said in the booklet for any time now

Kanye West – All Falls Down Lyrics 21 years ago
"We shine because they hate us, floss cause they degrade us
We trying to buy back our 40 acres"

Its obviously that Kanye is a young, intelligent hip-hop artist. This song is all about the reasons for the current hip-hop culture. This line makes reference to when the slaves were freed and promised 40 acres to start a life with. But they were taken advantage of and most ended up selling the land for much less than it was worth.

Bob Dylan – Not Dark Yet Lyrics 21 years ago
Interesting. I was just perusing the internet and found that this song is on the cd of music inspired by the passion of the christ. Now, from what I gather, Bob Dylan is/was? jewish. His given name was Robert Zimmerman. I think its kind of funny that somehow he found his way onto the soundtrack of a so-called anti-semitic film.

Ryan Adams – Rock N Roll Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song may sum up Ryan's whole experience in making the "Rock N Roll" album. He wanted to try something different but maybe he realized it wasn't for him. Ryan has often been quoted saying that he would prefer he stay below the mainstream. "Rock N Roll" the album had a bit more mainstream feel to it than his previous albums. It will be interesting to see how he follows up with the next one. If the two "Love is Hell" EPs are any indication it seems like it may be back to the old Ryan.

Guster – Either Way Lyrics 21 years ago
The idea that this was written about a deadbeat dad is probably correct. Nonetheless, the only lines indicate that specific of an interpretation are "Step on a kid they'll grow up hating you" and "Where did you learn its either him or you?" Other than that, I can see how the majority of people relate to this song in terms of a relationship gone bad. It describes your feelings perfectly and just about everyone (save those lucky few) have had such an experience. This is one of those songs that you can make your own choice on how to read it.

Guster – Window Lyrics 21 years ago
Okay heres a radical interpretation of this song. The man is trying to run from his past, hence the "I can run away only so long." The man is depressed and contemplating suicide. Maybe he is on the ledge of a building ready to jump. But someone (i don't know who) is helping him out. He's showing him that jumping is not the answer; "I'll take you to the edge." But then he says he'll help him go back in the building through the window. "Go across that window, and I'll carry you." This is a more literal interpretation and I could be totally off but I'm just pumped songmeanings.net is back. WOO HOOO!!

Guster – Parachute Lyrics 21 years ago
i think gusterfanatic got it mostly right. It's definitely about taking that first step. But I disagree with him about the parachute. I feel that the parachute is a metaphor for one's friends/family. Your so afraid to take that step, the n you realize you have a "parachute behind." This gives you the confidence to jump. After they jump they think the jump has gone wrong. But their friends/family are there to support them "parachute over me" and thus everything will be okay.

Guster – Red Oyster Cult Lyrics 21 years ago
Guster7 I think you're a little young to fully understand this song. Althought I'm not much older than you, this song has become very meaningful to me (as has the entire album).

First a little background. I had a very successful career in a small public high school in a small city. Not to sound conceited but I think I was pretty well like by almost everyone. Basically the whole "big fish in a small pond" cliche. Now I go to school at a large, high-level college. and am a "small fish in a large pond."

Anyways the way I interperet this song is like this:
When you're young you have all these dreams about these wonderful things you can do. You think you're on top of the world and nothing can bring you down. Then, as you grow up, you begin to realize that everyone as has these big dreams as well. And some of them really will acheive these goals but most won't. Your dreams have been crushed.

I guess you could say the theme of the song is "ignorance is bliss." The speaker/writer wants to return to a time when he had all these dreams. The Red Oyster Cult is a fanastic group that drink an elixir to make them remain young forever. I think the song has a sarcastic tone, because there is no such group or elixir. Hopes to remain young and "green" to the real world forever are mere fantasy.

By the way life isn't as bad as I make it seem here. There are many great things about going to college/growing up. This is just one of the downsides that hits some people pretty hard.
