Ok, this song is a cover, if you people don't know this. The original was by Alphaville, and it's better. Well I think it's better probably because I heard it first. Well it's definitely more 80's. Which is always cool. Alphaville's version is also the one in Napoleon Dynamite. |

| The Clash – Death Is a Star Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I agree with you about the whole fascination with death thing. And I have a stipulation about the meaning of the last line: First of all, the line is "In vain lovers claimed that they never had met". Note the 'that'. Well this guy's 'lover' is death, as you pointed out. So he's saying that he has never met death, as in never been a part of it. But he's lying (in vain, lovers claim). He has either caused a death or seen a death or whatever. Probably saying he has caused a death, because that would be a fitting end to the song. Great, relaxing song, anyway. |

| Modest Mouse – Classy Plastic Lumber Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Yeah, these lyrics here are a little messed up. Electricduck is correct. Also, the best line in this song is clouded by PLANES's lyrics. "So this is about ugly lovers and this is about pretty sons" That's the real line. "Pretty songs" doesn't mean anything in context. Sons makes sense, because it's talking about ugly lovers having a pretty son. I don't know what it means, but it's cool. Also, about the track list for Sad Sappy Sucker: As far I can tell, the entire thing is messed up. The first three songs are listed correctly, but the rested are listed one position up from what they really are (judging by the lyrics). So classy plastic lumber, which is really the fourth song on the CD, is not even listed, because for some reason it was shifted up and out of the listing. So track 4 on the CD is listed as Point A to Point B, when it is obviously Classy Plastic Lumber, and Point A to Point B is the fifth track. I spent enough time on that to know I'm right. Maybe I have a weird version of the cd... but apparently not, because you all say that this song is not on the case, just like with me. So two possibilities: 1.) They had a craptastic packaging team that had no god damn idea what they were doing. or 2.) They purposely did it to confuse people. This posibility is kidna cool, and definitely confuses people, but MM songs are confusing in the first place (especially on this album) so it may not have been the best idea. So that's my take. |

| of Montreal – Springtime Is the Season Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| There's possible dark undertone to this song. The last two lines make it a possibility that this entire song is a representation about how a large part of his life or others' lives is spent pretending that they're happy when really they are depressed. Or this song could simply be seen as a sweet, childish melody. | |
| Hope of the States – Don't Go to Pieces Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I'm surprised no one has commented on this song, it's my favorite as of now. The meaning is obvious. I like it because the guy's voice is just so perfect for the chorus, it's just so good to listen to. | |
| Badly Drawn Boy – The Shining Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Ok, so you people think Badly Drawn Boy, Elliot Smith, Bob Dylan, Conor Oberst are candidates for best lyrics? ....First of all saying Bob Dylan is the "best living user of the english language" is ironic, because it used to be that on a good day half the people that talked to him wouldn't understand a word he said. But you said "in songwriting" so I'll forgive you. Anyway....Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse is, in mine and many others' opinion, the greatest writer of lyrics ever. People that like good lyrics....listen to Modest Mouse. So, about this song. The lyrics aren't as amazing as some people apparently think. But they're stilll good, and it's a very good song. Some people say that this guy is a horrible singer, because he seems to have a range of like one octave. I think that he has a relaxing voice. I like it. I like the alternative instruments in some of his songs, too (i.e. french horn(s) in this one). The use of the french word for sun is cool, too. Wow, that has to be my longest comment ever. |

| Officer Roseland – Apple Zip Zaps Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This is a sweet song. This band is from around where I live. I'm surprised that the person who posted these lyrics, who is apparently an Officer Roseland fan, didn't post a comment, or any other OR lyrics. Anyway....I have no idea what this song is about. Maybe it's just purposely as random as possible. | |
| Modest Mouse – Night on the Sun Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Just to end this whole hopeful/hopeless argument: Every time he says it, it's definitely hopeless. Hopelessly hopeless. I'm absolutely positive. I'm surprised that anyone even thought it was hopeful, it doesn't sound like it at all. Anyway....This is an amazing song. Some people might complain about it for being long and repeating the lyrics a lot, but in my opinion every repeated line had meaning, and the length just makes it the great song that it is. |

| Ozma – Baseball Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Whoever said that this song is called "Weezer-Starlight" on some file-sharing systems: Yeah, it is. I have no idea why, but I'm so glad it is. I've been a weezer fan like crazy for a while, and I was searching for some more weezer rarities, and I found this song. And that got me into ozma, which is definitely one of the best bands in existence. | |
| Bright Eyes – A Perfect Sonnet Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| In my humble opinion, music can be one of two things. It can be focused on the instruments, with voice being another instrument. The lyrics can be okay, but they aren't something that would be good without the music. Most of the emotion is in the instruments. The other type of music is a poem, set to a tune, where the emotion is all in the voice, and the lyrics it sings. This song is the absolute epitome of this type. It's amazing. The emotion is...breathtaking. Literally. Nobody sings like he does. Nobody. I won't elaborate on that, because the few comments above mine explain how I feel about it. I write this comment, only having hearing two Bright Eyes songs, and not even being a fan. Yet. | |
| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I really hate to say this, sicne nobody else mentioned it, so I feel like I'm horribly wrong, but after looking at the lyrics, I feel that this song might be about a past lesbian relationship. This builds on the people who said her being in love with a gay guy. That meaning makes more sense if the lyrics are supposed to be a dialogue between her and him. But she might possibly be begging to her female lover to stay. Consider this: "They(men) don't love you like I love you." Also: "My kind is your kind (both women), I'll stay the same" (lesbian) And of course all of the possible homosexual references that the other people mentioned: "I'm straight, I'm not"(fighting with herself about it) My theory obviously has some holes(all the lines that I didn't mention, hehe), but it's just another possibility. |
