How is european ethnic? Last time I was in Cascais it looked pretty white-washed to me. A few black people cleaning the restaurant, that was all I saw in 3 weeks of working there. I guarantee cities like New York and Los Angeles have people born in more different countries than just about anywhere on Earth, and certainly more than the homogenous Western Europe!! |

What's up with the part about stripping away her ethnicity and the magazine trying to make her look whiter? Ummmm yeah. You're born in Canada and of European descent. How very "ethnic". She's not even an immigrant and she often claims. Sorry sweetie, it's boring to be plain old euro-trash descendents like the rest of us, but what are you gonna do? If anything she's shoving away her Euro-ethnicity to create something more sexy/interesting?? |

This song is yet another of Dave's very subtle songs about his faith. He is afraid of being labeled a preacher or christian rock, so they're very subdued and personalized. In this case, he's writing about a man looking at what it must've been like from Jesus' perspective. The line "Forgive you why? You hung me out to dry" refers to the people of the Earth asking for forgiveness when they were the very same people who hung him out to die a painful death on a cross. (and Dave's amazement that despite this he still forgives). The lines about making the pain pass by, holding, falling, blood falling from wrist to elbow and finally to the sand, etc. are all about being hung on a cross. |
