Ok, I read Hetfield's comments about the song in Maximum Guitar or something a few years back...he said that the song is sort of a love song or something, but it ends in murder. The song itself came from tooling around with a Fender B-bender Telecaster. He was playing around with it, came up with a cool riff, then realized it was the same chord progression as Unforgiven (which, in turn, is the same chord progression as Fade to Black I noticed). He kept the riff, wrote a song around it, and called it Unforgiven II 'cause it was inspired by the first one |

I liked this album, it was heavy as all f**k. This song is about kicking ass and standing tall over anybody who would try to bring you down. This is the song I listen to when I'm about to play football, take a test, or anything else that I pump myself up for. Pure energy, man. |

Actually, the lead does exist, it was recorded on an acoustic, but the band wanted the track to be muted on final mixdown. They thought it just didn't sound as good as it did on an electric, and they didn't have an electric handy at the time, so they opted to have it left out. It still exists on the master zip disk though...maybe a remix someday??? |
