| O.A.R. – James Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I'm supprised no one has commented. This is a beautiful song, about one of the band member's grandfather (i think) who has passed away. In my humble opinion, this is their most beautiful song. | |
| O.A.R. – Dareh Meyod Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Does anyone know what the words "Dareh Meyod" mean? | |
| Bob Dylan – Sara Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This is such moving song, probably because it is so personal, as is much of Dylan's work. Could you possibly imagine all of his powers of poetry aimed to write a song for YOU?! whoa | |
| John Mayer – 3x5 Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
I'm not much a fan of john mayer anymore, but this song will always be amazing. It strikes me quite personally because i'm very much into photography and travel often. Last summer i'd send pictures to my [then] boyfriend of my trips. Then during one trip to Maine i watched the sunrise on the top of Cadillac Mt. "I'll tell you all about it when i'm in the mood to lose my way with words" It was so amazing i knew i couldn't fit in all in one photograph ("overcame tryin to fit the world inside a picture frame") so i ditched the camera. It was so overwhelming to watch, not with one eye through a viewfinder, but to "see the world with both my eyes". When i finally got off the mountian i felt changed- i wanted my boyfriend to be there so badly beacuse i could never recreate it for him..."You'll be with me next time I go outside, No more 3x5's" true story |

| Dave Matthews Band – Kit Kat Jam Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
If anyone has the lyrics to the "Plastic Asshole" version, posting it would rock! Even though it sounds silly, the lyrics really are great and meaningful. : "why not believe that a good God'll save us all?/ Cause then we won't save ourselves and that's the only way to go!" |

| Dave Matthews Band – Loving Wings Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
OMG! did i screw these lyrics up! Lemme try again (sorry bout the first time) My heart was made of broken bones My soul a bag of stick and stone But you along this dusty road Have come my love to take me home. So I give to you my everything You've given me these loving wings Angels have all gathered 'round To hear me sing my love out loud. Your lightly love lifted me away Out of a darkness cold and gray Now I work beneath the midday sun My cool blue water you have come. So I give to you my everything You've given me these loving wings Angels have all gathered 'round To hear me sing my love out loud. So take your place here next to me And I'll take my place there next to thee And no matter how far we may roam It's by your side I'll make my home. So I give to you my everything You've given me these loving wings Angels have all gathered 'round To hear me sing my love out loud. |

| Dave Matthews Band – Drive In, Drive Out Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I believe it does have meaning, even if it was inadvertent. He's sick an tired of everything, and just want's to say "F*ck it all". | |
| Jack Johnson – F-Stop Blues Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| hehe, Jack's a shutter bug like me! rock! Yep Breezybay, that's exactly waht i was thinking. Ilove picking out little film references in his songs | |
| Dispatch – Open Up Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| shfalco- not bad. I see it, but i think "row" is ment as "death row", because most of the song its about his impending exsicusion. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Get in Line Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| The opening of this song is great! of course i almost had a heart attack because my speakers were all the way up and i hadn't expected that "HHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY" if you havn't hear this song, it's great! i wonder why it isn't more popular, and if you d/l it, be warned, the first notes a doozy! (: | |
| Coldplay – Life Is for Living Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
It is a simple song, lyriclly. A good short up beat messege. But i think the music (instrumental) is very powerful and bestows and weight on the lyrics that makes them more meaningful than just words. Did i just write that?...wow. |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – What You Are Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Anybody have the NEW live Outro lyrics? He played it on Last Call with Carson Daily and numerous other live proformances. All i can hear is "Get donw on your knees!" (intreaging enough) | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Bartender Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
"Could God come down from the hevens and take the form of this bartender standing in front of me and save my life?" Truly a masterpiece, musiclly, lyriclly. just beautiful |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – What You Are Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| just wanted to say that it's not "Are you and i so alike" it's "are you and i so UNALIKE" makes more sence this way too, to fit in Daverocks' idea | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Captain (Busted Stuff version) Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This song's not exactly a love song, more of a lust. I see he's makin his own decisions w/ the 'captin' symbol, so maybe he's going into a relationship knowing it's based on something other than love. He longs for her, and she seems to pity him, so she stays with him, but it's like he'll take her any way he can because she has enchanted him. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – #36 Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
great tune, this is. I've got a version of it from back in the day (back when they actually had to say "wer'e the dave matthews band...") And as dave's introing the song he says this song is a song we all wrote together one time, doin' a sound check in Vergina, and Chris Hani from South Africa, he'd just got assassinated that day. So we came up with this really happy kinda groove. It's called # 36 Then later: To celibrate his life, the life he had lived... It's straight from Dave's mouth so i'll trust this one (: |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – Raven Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Interesting points, and although i'm not going to pick a fight or anything, hey- whatever floats your boat, i generally get a vibe from DMB's music that is like, do your own thing, enjoy life because that's what it's here for. As in Trippin Billies, Best of Whats Around, etc. Musikrazy, it might be interesting for you to see the other folder for this song. In this version, i see the father/man figure as more of the bad guy because he is the one to twist the truth, and while he's trying to give guidence to the boy, he himself is guilty of crimes; "...holding the gun." Althought i didn't buy the "father = Father" thing at first, the more i think it over, the more i see it, unfortunatly. I doubt Dave set out to make a song about abusive priests, but non the less, the analagy does apply. |
|
| Jack Johnson – Stars Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| damn, i wanted to be the one to quote that! (: I'm in love with that line, if not the whole song. | |
| Jack Johnson – Inaudible Melodies Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Lovin this song! i did a report on Plato a few years back, and when i heard these lyrics, i was like 'Holy hell! I know what he's talkin about!" It was exciting. (: I think everyone's got it covered as far as meaning goes. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – You Never Know (Busted Stuff version) Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I am in love with this song, and although picking one, would be like playing favorites w/ kids, i have to say there's a special place for YNK. The imagry of "The moon follows the car" is awsome! Cuz really, when youre a kid in the car late at night, it looks like the moons chasign you. I always get that pictuer in my head and it's just beautiful. As far as meaning; go find your dream, whatever it is, no matter how old you are. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – #40 Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Very poetic, beautiful really. Like Hoity Toity sed, everyone wants this, so it kind of gives everone who hears it an nice warm 'n fuzzy feeling to think they'll grow old w/ someone they love | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Kit Kat Jam Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
This was like #34, had words, then recorded instrumental. Talk about back to basics for DMB! Okay, so meaning, i think there's a chick who's very fake in waht she does. She's superficial, and her appereance, and all that jazz. But he's like, 'what's gunna happen when you don't have all these material things anymore, and your beauty fades?' see she will be left with nothing becasue her whole life has been built on lies. Maybe (: |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – Raven Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
When I got Busted Stuff I noticed immeaditly all the lyric changes from Lillywhite sessions, but this song espically. I can't really figure it out. I see the Priest thing, but i still need to be sold on that point. I see that the Man is trying to sell a good point: "..You take care of it please, For it’s the only one." But is really bad. As in he was 'twisting' the 'truth'. i put in quotes becaus i still think it's all metaphoric. Maybe the man is self-destructive, cuz one hand's bleeding and the other holds the gun. Or something hypocritical like that. Anythought on what he did? As in "..take me a lifetime to undo what you've done" Boy's probably trying to fix something bad that the man did. i think..maybe...perhaps...? Inside the cover it says: "Shake his head like and angry mother, SMOKE the boy..." Still tryin to figure that one out. OTHER PEOPLE: speak! i really want to hear other takes on this one! "The ground beneath you’s nothing more Than one point of view. " Favorite quote, interesting point |

| Dave Matthews Band – I'll Back You Up Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Yes, i was totally blown away when i downloaded a video of dave playing acustic promoting "rember 2 things" in a tiny record store. (old, old school) and at the beging he says something like: "oh good! Ashelys' here!" R2T is from, what 92? As far as the song goes: Just...wow. Love it, heart-breakingly romantic. (if ya get what i mean) | |
| Dispatch – Open Up Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
abusive power...yadda, it's a given. "..ropes around your neck" line (best line evar! imho): I think b/c the guys' innocent he will either be pardoned last minuet or (more plausible in my head) He will die but believes in reencarnation and thinks that he will do something in his next life that will make it better, (i.e. but not nessasary, revenge). I havn't thought of the Jesus angle before, but it makes sence. Because really, that was the first, and certinly the most famous case of falsely being accused, and dieing for it. "Higher man's toung": the corruption goes all the way to the top. Big bad guy in charge is saying just arrest someone to make it seem like we're doing a good job. just my take on it Que le via bien ^what this mean? |
|
| Dispatch – Elias Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I think some people touched upon it. I think Elias is this old man, who worked in the fields all his life because that's all the only opertunity he was ever given. He worked the sugar cane fields so his sons could live a better life than he did. "they've grown, way taller than the tallest sugar cane in the field" Is a way of saying that his boys are better than what their father was, and he and his wife are so proud of them. His work paid off because his sons, Honest and Manuel have oppertunitys. The person singing may by refelcting on Elias' life and saying that he was wise dispite his little education and that they'll meet again someday. Just my take on it |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – Warehouse Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I agree with all of the above (espically the road trip part). But i think there's something more. I think it's aobut having to kind of grow up leave the Warehouse. How back when he was younger (playful beginings) everything was alright, bad luck was good (black cat changing colors) and you didn't have to worry about anything. But now the he's leaving (bare and empty) and he's wondering if anythign could ever be better than his days spent there. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – You Never Know Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This song's sound is extreamly powereful. Like Grey Street i almost get chills at the "think i can..." part. I believe it's vaguly about holding onto your dreams and even though you may get old and your life is differant than you imagined, you should still aspire to your dreams. | |
| Guster – Happier Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| this song, i believe, deals with something that everyone has had to deal with at one point in their lives: losing a friend to the "cool kids". In nearly every circle of friends there is a person who will undoubityly strive to be more popular. This song is a kind of kiss of to that friend...er...ex-friend. | |
| Phish – Waste Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Great song. IMHO best listened to in the summer when theres nothing else to do (: | |
| Phish – Farmhouse Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Great song. Must sing along to: Every man rise from the ash Each betrayal begins with trust Every man returns to dust. |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – Angel Lyrics | 24 years ago |
|
I'm not going to say DMB sold out...per say. But when people are praising this pop-afied version of an amzing band, i start to wonder. I physically cringe hearing people say that Everyday is just as lyricly solid as past albums. I respect everyone's opinion, but for the life of me cannot see that. Everyday was closer to the pre-packaged all inclusive TRL teenie bopper "entertainment" than good ol' pajama pants wearing, improv-ing, band we all know and love. Don't get me wrong, When the World Ends and such are great songs, but don't you get the feeling, w/ Angel espically that it's kind of...hollow? A little forced through clenched teeth- grudgingly singing a love song? And as for those who cliam that we who look at Everyday objectivly "arn't true dave fans": well, i see the exact oppisit, we appreteat the band for what they are, musicly. I refuse to mindlessly praise somehting that dosn't deserve it. Nobody is perfect, ::gasp:: not even Dave, so it is possible that this album is a creative fluke. |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – JTR Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| aH! these lyrics are missing my favorite line in the song! "In my mind, I believe the devil and the lord have been dancing all along" It's the most well worded way of expressing a battel of concious. good vs. evil. And constantly being on the line, looking over pondering a jump. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Grey Street Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| Lillywhite Sessions have differant lyrics, i like both versions. Probably my favorite Dave song...this week. she's trapped in the poor lifestyle no one, not God, not her family can help her escape. She learns she must do it herself, the lines "reach up and grab hold of the sunlight" and "Take what you can from your dreams" show this. | |
| Ben Harper – Walk Away Lyrics | 24 years ago |
|
Best lyric in any Ben Harper song: "But you put the happy In my ness" IMHO |
|
| Barenaked Ladies – When I Fall Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| I'm pretty sure It's from a window washer's POV up on the scafolding reflecting oh his life. Unique way of putting it. Leave it to BNL to fit the word "squeegee" in a otherwise searious, meaningful song. (: | |
| Dave Matthews Band – When the World Ends Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| Hahah! MAKIN LOVE LIKE THERE'S NO TOMARROW! | |
| Dave Matthews Band – The Song That Jane Likes Lyrics | 24 years ago |
|
This is certinly a toughy. My friends and i debate this all the time. I read somewhere that it had to do with the brief time in Dave's life where he tried his hand at acting. Which would make sence for the whole "And in plays to write the wire in I'll come back again" Possibly suggesting he will one day return to acting. (doubtful, imho) And as a side not my brother now refers to it as "The Song That Lissy Likes" becasue it's constantly on in my car. (: |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – The Dreaming Tree Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| I really think Raspberry put it perfectly. It could mean an actually physical tree, but i believe it's more of a metiphore for innocents and youth. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Pantala Naga Pampa Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| Pantala Naga Pamp = Welcome to Our Home. How appropriate | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Grace Is Gone Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| interesting...never thought of that. I think it fits. I supose it's possible for her to 'break his heart' in her death, but since it's never really said that way, you automaticly believe she *did* something. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Dreamed I Killed God Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| Perhaps he is invisioning his loss of faith, not nessasarly in religon but in anything. Dreaming he killed God because he is moving further from his morals, and further from his faith. Again, 'He' not being Dave Matthews... | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Don't Drink the Water Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| Just as a side note this song is great for extra credit points in Social Studies class. I've brought the lyrics in to my teacher for 3 years and it *always* applies to history, be it American, European, African....ect. Besides having a great sound to it | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Digging a Ditch Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| Your'e kidding! no Diggin a Ditch comments! In this song i see someone who is seeking solitude. It a place that makes you feel great, b/c you have no worries, and it's quiet and no one botheres you, but at the same time, it's peace comes with a self-destructive price. Sure, it's all pretty now- but the drugs will wear off soon enough and you'll just be left in your ditch. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Dancing Nancies Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| This really dosn't have much to do with the 'meaning' of the song, but since it's just such an amazing song, i'll add my 2 cents. I read somewhere that the title came from when he ws in Germany and he was in a cab and saw all these beautiful women dancing on the corner. He asked the driver: "Are those women prostitues?" the driver replied: "They're prostitutes, but theyr'e not women!" The term Dancing Nancies refers them, i guess as a reminder of that little quirkey moment. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Big Eyed Fish Lyrics | 24 years ago |
|
I don't claim to have be inside Dave's head when he put it on paper, but this is just what i got. It seems like it's a song about regret...sort of. If you skip ahead to the part about the monkey: "See this monkey sittin’ in his tree, decided one day to climb down and run off to the city, look at him now; tire and drunk, livin’ in the streets, as good as dead, see a monkey should know stay up your tree" Anyone else get an Anti-Proudest Monkey vibe from that? I got very sad the first time I thought to listen to it closely b/c it almost seems like he regrets his childhood wonder, viewing them as foolish and trite in retrospect. Or somehow like a defeat. As though written immediately after the failure of a project you put time, effort and energy into, at that stage where you think “Why did I think that would work? Why did I even bother? Why bother trying to change anything?” Proudest Monkey I believe generally has an ‘Experience Life, you’ll be better for it’ moral. Using the same monkey=people analogy, One Eyed Fish (or Big Eyed Fish) insists that that kind of thinking is foolish. Personally, I’ll stick to Proudest Monkey. |
|
| Dispatch – Flying Horses Lyrics | 24 years ago |
| Great Song. I too agree with Elizabeth. Maybe this is just my brain- but has anybody read Catcher in the Rye, ya know the end where Holden is watching Pheobe on the carosel? I think the "stole the ring from the flyign horses" is a reference to that. Cuz Pheobe was reaching for the ring on the carosel and that's when Holden had his epiphany. | |
