The Vines – Get Free Lyrics 23 years ago
This album sounds like a replica of Nirvana's Incesticide. It's awesome how that raw, fast, driving in the dark w/out headlights sound that Nirvana had at the beginning of their career is coming back 10 years after Incesticide. This song reminds me of Aneurysm. I have no fucking clue why.

Rock on vines. I love the disc. I am confident that your sound will break through to be the best shit anyone's considered "popular music" in years.

Until of course Britney gets implants.

Creed – My Sacrifice Lyrics 23 years ago
and bi the way.........

Think about this: Jesus could have been bisexual or even homosexual! Joseph could have too-he didn't do Mary, the angels gave her the baby. Choices are not sins my friends. If you think God loves a bisexual person less because they are bisexual, then maybe God loves an anarchist less because those chose not to want a government. Choices are what God wants us to make....he doesn't care where we go from there. I only briefly read the section, but for all those bisexuals and gays/lesbians, rock on because all you did was make a choice, not sin.

And by the way I'm straight.

Rage Against the Machine – No Shelter Lyrics 23 years ago
I agree aneurysm......
This song is taking back the pleasure of being on the Godzilla soundtrack. For my point to be valid, though, the lyric is "Godzilla pure mothafuckin' filler....to keep your eyes off the real killer"

Basically, it means that the average American is hypnotized by scary movies and we go to bed at night scared of the monsters in our closet or the ghosts in the TV (Poltergeist) or the great big monsters (Godzilla) or even the cannibalistic psychopaths (Silence....a great movie though) while our government is fucking us over by leading us into pure capitalism and in extreme cases rich, white dominance.
Go to bed and have a different kind of nightmare tonight.

Rage Against the Machine – Killing In The Name Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is about Mumia.
FACT:
The majority of the police force in the United States is white.
FACT: Black men are arrested by both black and white officer, though more white, which may be because there are more white officers in the business.
FACT:In Mumia abu Jamal's case, like told before, his brother was being beaten by a cop. The cop ended up dead. There was no proof whether Mumia did it, and there was no proof that the cop had a reason to be beating up Mumia's brother. Mumia was arrested and a seen third party was not. Mumia was publically known as a journalist and a former Black Panther. He was sentenced to death without a decent trial. He finally was released after years on death row.
FACT: White police arresting black men or women is not police brutality, but the white cop unlawfully beating Mumia's brother was. Therefore, Mumia stood up to police brutality. This song is in part about that, but just because it is doesn't mean Rage is anti-white. They are anti police brutality, which still goes on. So fuck all y'all who are talking about Rage being anti white and hating the cops....they hate the all-too-common police brutality.

Rage Against the Machine – Darkness (Of Greed) Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is mainly about AIDS attacking the African nation and how we as a country are doing less than shit about it. This is the same stuff bono from U2 fights for, but he does it more peacefully. It is also what "we are the world" was for and what the "what's going on" was supposed to be about. Notice how those other people and songs just want to spread awareness about AIDS in Africa, while Rage shoves their opinions up our government's ass by not only making us aware of the problem but trying to persuade our government to do something. A beautiful song all around.

HOLY SHIT! I came on expecting like "It's about his relationships with his girlfriend" or something and I scroll down half the page and find this----

you are implying that gays are immoral, pedophilistic perverts. being gay doesn't make you some kind of sexual degenerate. i am bisexual, and i don't want to molest children. btw, God loves me just as much, he doesn't care that i'm bi.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?

Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics 23 years ago
I dont know if anyone supports Courtney Love in her attempts to silence her husband's legacy forever....if you ask me, she's jealous that even almost 10 years after Nirvana was abruptly broken up, they are still on the tip of everyone's tongue and making teh covers of Rolling Stone magazine. At the same time, even though Hole has still gone on since Nirvana ended, when you ask someone what they think of Hole, you'll either get a "Who the fuck is Hole" or a "What", unlike if you ask someone about Nirvana. Give up the jealousy and allow the box to be released Courtney. No one is on your side.

Rage Against the Machine – Know Your Enemy Lyrics 23 years ago
Rage's idea with the first album was to make music that got normal people into politics. This song uses not hard to get lyrics to lure people into the political meaning. The only time when it gets a little foggy is at the end, but that is Zach's message that our own teachers and parents pound patriotism into us...........Basically we need to fuck the norm.

And the only reason we have an American Dream is because too many of us are sleeping.

Nirvana – The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie cover) Lyrics 23 years ago
Guys-If David Bowie never made the song, Nirvana would never have been able to make such a great cover. So credit both of them-Bowie for opening the door with great songwriting, and Nirvana for picking such a good song to do a great cover of at their show.

Nirvana – Polly Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is about the kidnap of the girl after the concert. She was tortured with a blowtorch through a cage and possibly raped.....But she started to pretend to enjoy it. The capturer started to bring her places because she seemed to like the abuse and to approve of his before. Then, one day, at a gas station, the girl waited until he went inside to pay. She had gained his trust so much that he left the door unlocked. She ran away straight to the police and he was caught at the gas station. (true story)

dude I just came on to find out that the song isn't described here.......its a battle between NOTHINGFACE and friends.

Here's my opinion: NOTHINGFACE is full of shit and he listens to punk to feel anti-establishment when he is really probably pledging allegiance right now. NO ONE CAN TRY TO TELL ME THAT THE WORLD IS FULL OF ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT PUNK BANDS WHEN BLINK 182 IS THE BIGGEST PUNK SHIT OUT THERE SINGING ABOUT THEIR BONERS AND ORGASMS.

Soundgarden – Spoonman Lyrics 23 years ago
Spoonman is about the dominance of "white man" in indian culture. Many years ago we killed the indians off of their land and took it as the USA. Look at the lyrics....the white man "stole" the indian's "rhythm." The song is written in the perspective of an indian who is crying out to the dominant white man, the spoonman, to save him and spare him because he is "together with" the white man's "plan" to dominate North America. "All my friends are Indians..." "all my friends are skeletons." This shows the instant morphing of indians to skeletons with white dominance. The song is definitely about what I say.

And even if I'm totally off the map, my guess is way fucking closer than "doing heroine."

Tool – Schism Lyrics 23 years ago
EVERYONE WHO IS CONFUSED ABOUT THIS SONG PLEASE READ THIS: Although the clear definition of a "schism" may refer to the church, as we know not all that Maynard writes sticks truly to its definition.

The song "Schism" is about the breakup of Rage Against the Machine. Adam Jones was in a band with Tom Morello, guitarist for Rage, before Tool came about. They were good friends and remained good friends throughout their separate careers. "Schism" is a tribute to Rage's legacy and breakup, and here is how this is possible.

As we know, Maynard wrote the song. Maynard guested on Rage's 1992 debut album, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. He sang a short vocal part in the band's 6th track "Know Your Enemy." In it, he sang of how he was "sick of complacency." Maynard was once asked about lending his voice to Rage. He told reporters that "I really enjoyed Rage's political sense...in fact, some of their shit inspired the shit I write today." He is refering to his own political edge, apparent in songs such as "Hooker with a Penis." This proves that Maynard had a professional and personal relationship with Rage.

Next, fastforward to October 18th, 2000. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Zach De La Rocha, lead singer of Rage, publicly quit Rage Against the Machine, saying the following:

The band's "decision-making process has completely failed," de la Rocha said Wednesday. "It is no longer meeting the aspirations of all four of us collectively as a band, and from my perspective, has undermined our artistic and political ideal. I am extremely proud of our work, both as activists and musicians, as well as indebted and grateful to every person who has expressed solidarity and shared this incredible experience with us."

Many took this as a citing to Rage's communication breaking up. And so comes a repeating lyrical riff In "schism", maynard talking about crippled communication.

The song was released to radio May 6th, 2001. This puts it in the exact songwriting realm of when Rage broke up. That means that these lyrics are completely directed towards Rage's breakup. The following is exactly how I think these lyrics are about Rage. Lyric excerpts are in parentheses, and how they relate to the breakup is outside those parentheses.

(I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering, fundamental differing
Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers' souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes, testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so
We cannot see to reach an end, crippling our communication)
Maynard knows the pieces fit because he watched them fall away. Rage's breakup was public, Zach De La Rocha was humiliated by Rage's bassist climbing on the MTV Video Awards set when Rage lost a best rock video category to Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff". Zach complained about this and stated that it was one of the reasons he left Rage. Fundamental differing refers to Zach's statement that "our decisions do not meet us all collectively." The light was Rage's anger in politics. That is what fueled their fire for 8 good musical years. That anger was now all in Zach, and his anger at Rage's public humiliation (bassist on the MTV set) and Rage's decision making falling apart (quoting Zach) made him angry enough to leave Rage, thus burning rage with the fire that started them. The final lyric refers again to Rage's communication falling apart. NEXT LYRIC-------

(I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame, it doesn't mean I don't desire
To point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over
To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication)
"No fault, none to blame, this doesn't mean I still desire"-basically, this is Maynard wanting to believe that the breakup was not fueled only by Zach's stubborness, but still he desires to know what caused the breakup. The next line is about zach's finger-pointing at Tim (the climbing bassist) and the band and not himself. That very finger-pointing tipped rage's temple over. The final lyric again is about the lost communication. NEXT LYRIC--

(The poetry that comes from the squaring off between
And the circling is worth it, finding beauty in the dissonance

There was a time that the pieces fit, but I watched them fall away

Mildewed and smoldering, strangled by our coveting
I've done the math enough to know the dangers of a second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow and strengthen our communication)

"The poetry that comes from the squaring off between
And the circling is worth it, finding beauty in the dissonance" This line comes from the possible side projects and solo projects leaking from the breakup of Rage, and how this horrible dissonance maybe reeks something musically beautiful. A "second guessing" is a chance at Rage coming back together, but Maynard then realizes that that can only be done with the strengthening of communication. NEXT LYRIC----

(Cold silence has
A tendency to
Atrophy any
Sense of compassion

Between supposed lovers
Between supposed brothers)

Cold silence is Rage's bad communication for almost a year before the MTV incident. That silence tends to break up Rage's beautiful compassion for their music and each other, even between Zach (vocals), Tom (guitar), Tim (bassist), and Brad (drums), the four Rage brothers.

The song continues with Maynard babbling about the pieces fitting, because for 8 years they did. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, the '92 debut, was the pieces fitting. EVIL EMPIRE, the '96 grammy-winning disc, was the pieces fitting. Even BATTLE OF LA, the 2000 final masterpiece, was activist piece fitting together. But those pieces fell apart, obviously proving the meaning of this song.
