In sing the sorrow AFI gives us a bigger variety of music than they ever have before. Some really hard songs, some of this deep (for Davey) screaming, some techno, a metal solo (Dancing Through Sunday). The variety is really nice I never thought it would help AFI so much to have a lot of variety. Nice song, nothing weak about it. |

The whole political thing. . . I'm a pacifist. It would be nice if we didn't have countries and we just all lived in one world. Unity would be helpful. For all the people saying we need to bomb anywhere (whether it's America or Iraq). You are generalizing people. Bombing hurts innocent people on behalf of their leader. Those people do not deserve that.
Also, presidents are useless. Don't blame it on bush lol. He just stands there, looks pretty(does a bad job of it), and says what his advisors tell him to.
This song is pointing out the mistakes of all of you who said any specific place needed bombing.
I personally do not believe in evolution (from cell to human anyway). I believe in more of an adaptive type evolution (Panda maybe not originally white or something). Guided evolution actually. I think vetter wasn't talking about physical evolution as much as an evolving society or mental evolution.

geez. . . well anywho as far as giving credit to band members Davey does deserve a lot because he is a lyrical genious but there is no one thing that makes a band great everyone has to be good at what they are supposed to do or there are going to be major flaws and with AFI in my opinion there are none. . . Adam impresses me the least though even though he is still a very good drummer |

well I said this once already about exanguinations but I feel like Davey uses metaphores that will relate to vampires to get a different theme across. In this case it just seems to me like it's a song about being different from others
"I know it's here we retreat for where else would we go to great disbelief there is somewhere we belong, in negative space supposed flaws go unseen, but our strength is shown" Society rejects the people who are different but there is somewhere they belong and the good things about them are shown there.
Chorus- most of these people who are rejected do seem to like the dark(punks, goths, and what have you) so it's pretty straight forward from that

Davey is a wiccan, the whole individualism outlook is a nice way to look at the song if you are not (and I'm not and I think Davey uses his symbolism so that there isn't a real limit as to what meaning you will find). I think actually the song was wrote to be a sort of a reference of what the Catholics did to his people. |

I believe this scpunk06 was probably right on maybe what Davey was meaning but as many people have said before Davey also probably wants us to have our own opinions on these things or he wouldnt put symbolism. To me the Jesus theme makes a lot of sense and is the way I like to look at the song. Great interpretation (maybe I like that one so much because I am Christian) |

everyone has covered the meaning of this song as far as I think it goes except for one little thing "three tears I've saved for you" I believe by this he's saying he has lost everything and mourned those losses and has saved tears incase he has to lose this person I love this song reminds me of a time in my life. . . it's odd how people like sad songs. |

Well once I was told when Davey was younger(high school days) 3 friends of his died a girl and 2 boys and that this song has something to do with them. To me it's about Davey dreaming of being back with his dead friends. Think about it like that most of the things will make sense. "The girl on the wall" could be a picture of one of them. . . thus she is always smiling. Some coffins are lined with crushed velvet, Candles are also at funerals, and so are flowers. . .thus crushed velvet , candle wax, and dried up flowers so that could represent the funeral. I have also been told the 3 graves on the cover of the Art of Drowning represent his friends. |

I think the song is kind of straight forward it seems to be asking the question of if AFI took a long break would you still remember them or after the band stops making music will you remember them and also it seems to talk about people who don't care about him because he looks or acts differently and they never really get to know him. |

Not sure if I agree on the song meaning but it does make sense. I know I agree about AFI being that kind of band, certainly my favorite. Davey is the greatest lyricist ever. |
