way back when man lived in ice caves and freezing weather. quite possibly he's talking about evolution and cavemen saying goodbye to the cold and migrating south. most likely not what Isaac meant, but that's what it means to me. That's the great thing about the mouse. how so many of his songs mean different things. kind of like reading a book and having your own vision of what's going on. |

This song is grand. I think everyone has tried to drink away the part of the day that you cannot sleep away. One of the better self loathing songs out there. God bless the mouse! |

sakebox and whitetide, you both have good points. To me Cowboy Dan represents the white man taking over indian reservations. Getting drunk and pissed and starting a war against the weaker indians sounds like those old john wayne cavalry movies. The line. "I got mine, but I want more" simply means to me more land... am I making any sense?? |

Modest Mouse is in a league of their own. I guess you would classify them as indie rock. This song like so many songs by the band has several different parts. It's like this song could of been 2 or 3 songs, but we love the mouse for having 6 to 8 minute songs. What a brilliant song to open up with their amazing album Lonesome Crowded West. "so long, farewell, good-bye" |
