Oh my God, this song is absolutely beautiful. I can listen to it all day long. I just figured out the guitar chords to it, and I can't stop playing it. Anyway, to the meaning.....I kind of have a feeling that it's about a long relationship that is getting hard to hold on to.....they love each other but aren't getting along. In the first verse she's emphasizing that he's "lost his head" before, and that without him she feels alone (a clue to a long-running relationship). Then in the chorus she says words get in the way...as if they've gotten to the stage where they are so comfortable they don't even need to talk to each other. But I think she sees this as more a negative thing....like she knows they need to talk about it, but she knows they'll just end up fighting, so why speak at all? The last verse...oh how I love the end of this song...No matter what they'll hold each other up. This song makes me want to cry. |

Damn...Weeeelll, kids, I haven't commented in a while so I feel we're all due for an Annie comment.. Though I agree it would be nice to hear some real meanings for songs on this site rather than simple opinions, it's very illogical to have ONLY real meaings..for one, many songs don't really have a concrete meaning; a songwriter could have written a song about a depressed little boy just because he himself felt depressed. Because the songwriter is not the little boy, does not know the little boy, and has no real motivation for writing about the boy, the song really doesn't have a concrete meaning; just, "man, I was feeling like shit the night I wrote that." Also, how many people actually know the REAL meanings of songs? Honestly, there are very few songs that would have comments at all if it was confined to a domain for ACTUAL meanings. However, I do agree somewhat...like when people really don't know what they're talking about but feel the need to make their mark on the page of the song they think "kicks ass, man!" And if you don't KNOW the lyrics for sure, don't claim you do. Say, "I think it sounds like..." Like me!! ...Come to think of it, you should all just be more like me. |

i usually read all the posts before i post, but this time i didn't. i apologize if i'm being repetitive. anyhow, here's my interpretation. i think he and the girl he truly loves and has been with for a very long time just mutually broke up...only i think it was he who brought it up ("it was my turn to decide") But i think he regrets doing it because he feels like he can never feel the same about someone else, he can never open up the same way to anyone else, and no one will understand him like she does. I think when he realizes this he wants her to take him back, but he won't tell her. He's just "holding on tight." He won't let go of the feelings and he can't let go of her. That's the super abridged version. i usually write really long stuff, but there are plenty of other ppl who've done that so i thought i'd keep it short. Funny thing, when i was writing that i kept typing "i" instead of "he" because I have been in the EXACT same situation that he's talking about. That's why this song means so much to me. Beautiful. |

First, I just got this video (along with other audio tracks from unknown rock/punk bands) and immidiately loved it. I love the energy in the music, and it really has a good original sound. I hope to hear more from these guys. Here are some possible corrections. I heard a few things differently from the lyrics posted. On the second line i hear "i can feel your pants around my ankles and the floor" I was thinking "i can't describe" for the first one too (typo?) I also hear "Come in through this small hole" the first time he sings it. The second time seems to be correct. Well thats all I've got for now. Hopefully more people will hear this song and come post!! |

Oh, well, I decided not to be a loser..... Here are my latest thoughts...mostly directed to lyricalavenger because he tries even harder than me ;) we're a team, but anyone who has input on my ideas let me know. "Can the mask align" (i agree) I still think it's "get it up inside" Yes, i hear the 'ts' (seems like he's going to say time) but also, it only seems possible that it ends in a d. Listen to the end of the word. I also kind of hear "curb" rather than "curve." Neither really make much sense so i'm stuck there. I agree with "NOW think like a verb" rather than "i think..." I also am still stuck with my first opinion of "now you're changing PHASES" rather than "places." That's another one that i can't even force. It really sounds FOR SURE like phases. (plus it goes along with the room is shaking....like he's halucinating) "sweatin fills my cancer" "sweating feels like cancer" yeah....i'm having a lot of trouble with that line too. but i've been hearing "sweatin" or "sped up" for the first part of the line. Help me please! That's all for now... |

There is no possible way he says "little while" Listen really hard, you can't even force it. It's impossible. As for the rest, I give up for now. Bert has such strange pronunciations. It's too hard. I love this song. Its so beautiful and powerful. I love how it moves from one time period to another. This song isn't simply how he feels at one moment, but reflects the stages the relationship went through as his girlfriend struggled with drugs. The first stanza is so different from the rest because he introduces the song with his feelings of love for his partner...then he moves onto how he feels about the drugs. He wants her to keep him where the drugs don't go...he's saying he doesn't want the drugs to interfere with him and her. He doesn't want to be any part of it and wants to be safe from the harm it can cause. Then he begs her not to let go. At this point he still loves her and wouldn't give her up no matter what. He says she is blind and can't see him this time. She can't see how much its killing him, and killing their relatioship. I think when he says "hope comes from the inside" he means that he still has hope, but he's still depressed and worried about it. Then he says how he can't tell her from the drugs. She isn't the person he fell in love with, but he still can't let go of her. (We've all felt this, you're boyfriend/girlfriend changes so much but you still love them and can't give them up) When he says he needs her help to take the pain away, he still has hope that she can change and that they will be ok. He still needs her, and he still wants her to help him because she "makes the hardest things seem easy" He wants to feel this again and he begs her for this relationship again. The only problem is that she needs help more than he does, and she is the reason why he needs help. The title of the song makes it seem like he ultimately tells her to choose between him and the drugs, but the lyrics don't reflect that. The last stanza "Keep my heart somewhere drugs don't go Where the sun shines low always keep me close is reiterating his feelings from the beginning that he still wants to be with her. He's still begging her to keep him separate from the drugs. He won't give up. |

someone said a.m. is his brother's initials.? Adam Madia? But i don't know. that would make the song a little more confusing to interpret don't you think? About his father or brother? "blame my father for the wasted years, we hardly talked" maybe, (this will seem like a stretch and not what i actually thought the song meant but here goes) his parents got divorced and his dad took custody of his brother, whom he didn't get along with when they were young, so he blames his father for not being able to see his bro or work out problems. then his brother is dying...etc. yeah i don't really think that is what it means but i'm tryin! :) Anyway, the most interesting line to me is "I hope to God I figure out what's wrong" Does this mean figure out what's wrong with his dad so he can be cured/healed and they can make up? Or does he mean figure out what's wrong with the relationship? Because I thought he already figured out what was wrong with the relationship...help? |

| ok i've been gone to churchcamp and vacation but i'm back and have a bit to say. dcboy, i think your concept of christianity is a little off. if having one distinct flaw that you aren't in a hurry to change can mean that you aren't truly saved then almost everyone is going to hell. being saved isn't about that. even if you make the same mistake over and over God will forgive you. and i don't hate my enemies. they upset me with things they say but i still have that compassion for them that compels me to tell them about God. and i can tell you this right now. you are one hunder percent wrong when you say these things: "But if you do that all the time, fell no conviction over it and don't care about it you're not saved." here's a situation for you. i have some christian friends who go out on weekends and drink. they don't care about it even tho its wrong. they are saved and i know that they genuinly love God and believe in Jesus Christ and are very good christians aside from their partying. Would you believe that they are going to hell? because God says they aren't. I've been taught my whole life that if you're saved you can mess up all the time (even if it is the same thing over and over) and if you still ask God for forgiveness and turn to him then he will forgive you however many times it takes for you to realize what you are doing is wrong. "If you're temper is something you can't control though, you should examine your life and see if you are saved." So what you're saying here is that since i have a temper i should examine my life to see if i'm really saved. temper has nothing to do with being saved. it has to do with repetitive sinning. if you changed that line to "if your temper is something you can't control you should examine your life and see that you're sinning but don't realize it" than i would have no problem with that. If i examined my life i would notice that some sins i do commit over and over but i try to change. God knows we struggle. He understands the human way. you can't underestimate him to the point that he will send you to hell for having a bad temper or drinking on weekends. Just remember that God understands us. He knows what we go through here. | |
