| The Mars Volta – Eunuch Provocateur Lyrics

am i the only one who thinks that this song is closely related to the Deloused in teh Commatorium album's theme? an Eunuch is also "one that lack virility or power" - so maybe it's not literally a sexual reference, but more of a reference to some sort of weakness he has...and provocateur has some lose ties to "trickery" so what i'm thinking is that Julio was in one way or another tricked and this song talks about that and how it's unfair - but doesn't say taht literally.
also, about the "de-loused in the commatorium" i think that's a straight reference to how Julio tried to kill himself...the lice being the drugs that are in his brain...so he was "de-loused" you know, de-toxed...and in the commatorium can either be a reference to an actual hospital or maybe the state he was in in his head...anyone have any clues? |

seeing how this is a songmeaings site, it seems awfully relevant to try and find out what the song means...to be honest, i don't really care about what it means to someone else right now, what i want to know, is what it means to the mars volta...
additionally, where omar comes from and what he is has everything to do with the song...this whole album is about family, bloodline, and relatives...to quote them "when you meet your friend's parents you get a whole new perseption of your friends becuase now you understand where they come from...you see the relation" (not word for word, as i'm too lazy to look up the article right now)...however, you get the gist of it, right?
so...if you want to really understand the mars volta, you have to look at as much info about them as you can and analyze their lyrics as much as you can...one last thing (excuse the length), I don't think that by simply "accepting the music for what you hear" gives the mars volta the justice they deserve, as they are single handedly, the best band i have ever heard...and is it just me, or does it seem like nothing they ever do is random...? |

actually, i don't think your interpretation of the lyrics are infact correct. I read the interview you were talking about and the reference taht was made to the bush family was strictly based on BLOODLINE...the umbilical chord...the fact that you can't change who you are...(the bush twins can't change who they are, they'll always be george bush's daugters..no matter what) and the political references made in that same article were strictly based on the vies of the mars volta, and don't necessarily go hand in hand with frances the mute.
on another note, i think the cassandra that is referenced here is the cassandra of greek mythology...zeus raped one of the goddesses (forget which one) and she becomes pregnant...she gives birth to twins...this is illustrated in the constelation "Cassandra Gemini" |

no, frances is not infact the main character in the story - vismund is. and i doubt the name is based on "frances the mule" from a show - I read an article where omar said they ultimately decided on "frances" because at first look you don't really know if it's male or female...he also said it wasn't related to "st. frances" or someshit... |

mad props to the puerto rican who posted the translations, but actually, the only two puerto ricans in the band don't write lyrics. Cedric writes all lyrics and he's of mexican descent. anyway, if you want to understand what th is song is saying, you need to read it in spanish, since you always lose something in the translation.
anyway, what i got from the album is that L'via killed Frances (vismund's mom)...its just really hard to understand alot of it becuase cedric switches tenses often, so you don't really know who's talking and when...you just kind of have to figure it out.
i think alot of the words are coming from vismund...he's telling l'via how she's left him with no history, no family, nothing...he also asks frances for help and vows that he won't ever forget...meaning he'll continue the search, however long it takes. |

this song basically sums up the story of the album and helps you understand all the other songs...it wasn't until i heard this song all the way through that the rest of hte album strated making sense. anyway, for those who don't know:
L'via killed frances (vismund's mother)...how is that possible? well, visumund survived the abortion...and L'via fled..the CD then, is Vismund trying to find his biological roots...just wanting to know where he came from...but L'via has left him with no history...i guess that's why he ain't got nothing..
does it make sense that Frances is referred to as being mute because she's dead? this is one thing i'm rolling with, and i guess she's mute because this whole time vismund is trying to figure out his bloodline and since his mom is dead, she can't answer any of his questions... |

this song is gonna be released on vynil by omar's own lable (GSL). it was meant to be the first track onthe album so that you get to know the mother before the son. (frances is vismund's mother)...basically, the whole album is one long and crazy story (based onthe journal)...each song gives you a few pieces to the story and then you have to put it together yourself...this is seriously the best album i have ever heard - those who don't like it, merely don't understand it...this is sheer genius. |

Ian Curtis killed himself in his OWN house, not his mother's. in the background i think it might be Ian Curtis who says "Isolation" which is another Joy Divison song title. i think it's Ian singing that because who ever says it has a really deep voice, and it does kind of sound like him. |

Thursday is not emo, they have repeatedly said that they are not an emo band. in Alternative Press they said this "we keep getting put into a really offensive category, its a three letter word that starts with e and ends with o" they said that they are a Hardcore band, not emo, Hardcore.
and i think that at the end of the song he does scream out "fucking mirror!" i think he repeats it like three time, but i could be wrong, and right after he says fucking miror i think he kind of whispers out "i am the killer" |

i disagree with fraeulein. i dont think that when geoff says
"In these city streets I hide my face.
I turn away when you look at me
And every night when I try and sleep.
I feel your hands all over my body."
its the girl refering to the rape. i think its geoff talking. i think that when he says"...And every night when i try to sleep, I feel your hands all over my body." he's saying that he cant even look at her because he knows how much she's hurting and the whole "...i feel your hands all over my body" is geoff saying that he feels her pain, that he knows what she's going through. |

This would have to be my favorite song off of waiting. the begining of the last stanza is my favorite "Sitting here.Waiting a year.Hoping for something to change your mind and in this time I'll see that this is all we have."- this is fucken beautiful. to me it like the person is sitting there, thinking, hoping for the other to change their mind, when he realizes that its not gonna happen, this is all we have...Thursday is amazing. I saw them at the warped tour on wednesday, They Fucken kicked ass. tim and tom came over and they signed some of our posters magazines and even our shirts. |

at the warped tour on wednesday before thursday played this song he said "this song is about a hot summer day, just like today" so i guess it means that the song is about the events that take place during summer. love being one of them. |
