Good to know, MrKasady. Meaning is pretty obvious; general misanthropy, not because of hatred but because of disappointment. |

| Song seems to deal with the question of eternal life. It seems this song questions those who feel sadness but revert to religion. The song reconciles these similar feelings: "You don't want to be human... Anymore than me." [sic]. The song is actually not that harsh, I would say, since it attempts to acknowledge that even some brilliant people revert to religion in times of crisis. | |

Corey could have lied to mask the intended meaning, you idiots. What does clearing a stone of leaves have to do with cutting yourself in a tub? And wandering out where you can't see? To me, the song is about killing someone that he loves: I felt the hate rise up in me (he gets angry and then the rest is unmentioned) Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves (this is somewhere else, him clearing a gravestone and revealing the name or something) I wander out where you can't see (wanders away where no one can see him, of course) Inside my shell I wait and bleed (he's dying of remorse). Then, the only remaining areas with meaning in this damn song: "I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this Is it a dream or a memory?" (he's nuts) "I-HAVE-SINNED-BY-JUST Makin' my mind up and takin' your breath away" (he kills someone). Please note, my interpretation of the song could also be wrong. I think very poorly of Slipknot's intellectualism and therefore expect their songs to be a bunch of emotionally-driven lines strung together. I think Iamaustin and Mopar are the only ones who actually put some thought into the interpretation of the song. The rest of you who took Corey's statement about the bathtub interpretation at face value without questioning the assumptions fail at life (and probably your classes as well). |

@ OneManTaliban, Besides Taliban meaning students, rendering your name illogical, I think you're hilarious. Upon listening to the song again recently after not hearing it for a long time, I kind of grew to think that it was about the different meanings of virginity. "Deep wells must be dug if you want clear water Rose-red, oh Rose-red Deep waters don't run still" /// Clear water is again, virginity. They don't run still because the guy wants a virgin. So he has to dig deeply and quickly. "The boy climbs the mountain in torment He doesn't really care about the view" /// Boy re-prioritizes in order to get "clear water." Throws life away. "She wants it and that's fine So it was and so it will always be" /// This part requires the most conjecture. If taken from the boy's point of view, it's fine that the girl wants sex, because that benefits him. (He'll get some.) So basically, from these interpretations, it seems it would be about the difference of what sex means, to both a male and a female. Males in their ritual have to compete if they want "clear water" virginity (the analogy isn't that great). Females, however, have to offer this. This puts them in a bargaining position for whatever they want. This description agrees more with the ideas that sumkinda_monster had, as well as others. It also makes sense with the video (guy fucks himself over for virgin). Just my thoughts. |

| Initially, I had thought that this song was about the American need for gasoline. With more thought, however, it seemed (to me) that the song is about the world's need to burn chemicals for fuel. It seems that humanity's need to burn fuel for energy is criticized. Much of the lyrics, however, don't support such an idea... it seems that the 'pyromaniac' idea is best supported. | |

| It felt to me that this song is about Till and his mixed feelings about writing music for his own enjoyment versus writing/performing music for his audience. Maybe Till feels as though we want him to do something as crazy as jumping from atop a bridge? | |

I have not seen the video, but it's supposed to be a play on a Goethe poem and a Brothers Grimm story. My first thoughts on it were that it was a play on the Goethe poem. The poem describes a boy taking pleasure from a rose, probably symbollic of a boy getting pleasure from taking the virginity of some girl. This song, though, introduces an inverse scenario: a girl is getting pleasure and the boy does whatever she tells him to do. "A girl saw a little rose It bloomed there in bright heights" - Virginity "The boy climbs the mountain in torment He doesn't really care about the view Only the little rose is on his mind He brings it to his sweetheart" -He doesn't care about the mechanical process of sex. Pleasing her is more important to him. "At his boots, a stone breaks Doesn't want to be on the cliff anymore And a scream lets everyone know Both are falling to the ground" -Climax Just my thoughts. |
