Well, apart from having a fantastic drum part, :D, this song is excellent in so many ways. To me it feels as though he hasn't been spilt from her for very long, because he's still quite bitter- the wounds and the feelings are still fresh. I think that the "my love" is ironic, though, since she's been cheating and he feels so betrayed- he's had to seriously reconsider his feelings for this girl. I can understand from a personal POV of his regret for the hurt she caused him; I was cheated on by one of my ex boyfriends, and I understand his need for questioning; the Did you think of me when you kissed him? The "licked his skin" is obviously a sexual reference, as it's quite sensual, and shows her as almost animalistic, empahsising her lack of sensitivity. I can empathise, too, with the way he opened himself up totally to her and she abused that trust, and the frustration he feels as a result of that; he gave her his all and it still wasn't good enough, he "could never reach" her. I like how he's not beaten, though, with his need for "sweet revenge" - he's defiant, he won't cry anymore, and he's not going to be broken by her utter thoughtlessness towards him. Go Alex! ;)

Savage Garden – Crash And Burn Lyrics

I love this song very much. It's helped me through some really depressing times, and I like the way the repetion of the simple guitar riff in the verses feels quite like a lullaby. Obviously this is written to soothe somebody mental, rather than physical, demons, with the "walls closing in on you" and the "monsters in your head." (Incidentally, I like the way Darren chooses "head" here rather than the more obvious ryhme of "mind," to go with "find.") I like the enduring vibe of hope in it- Darren himself says he wrote it during "one of the bleakest New York winters" which were understandably hard on him, coming from sunny Oz, and it works as a kind of positive mantra, and there's something about this song that always makes me feel cheerful, no matter how miserable I am at the start.

I agree with the point about him feeling pressurised by others,or maybe his own ambitions and dreams, but perhaps by the girl involved too..if he *was* a rainmaker or a superhero, would she really still love him the same? And she's presented as an antithesis to this, he needs her to be strong and sure and the same, he needs her stability. Good song.

Lifehouse – Hanging By A Moment Lyrics

Personally, I'm not religious, so to me this song has always been written about a girl. Having said that, I can see how it sould be interpreted as being about God. This is a place where we can post about what songs mean to us personally. If you interpret this as being about God, great. If not, equally great. It doesn't lessen the song any- can't we just conentrate on the lyrics instead of turning this into a big battle? It's a good song, it's honest and open, and whatever it is he believes in, it's pure and whole and fulfilling, if sary at the same time. I don't know about God, but to me that's what love is like.

I love the imagery of this song...it's very powerful, and Darren has such eloquence. I think that deep down part of him he still loves her, but he knows it's over, and he's determined not to let himself be manipulated anymore.

I love the purity of this song, it's just so free of the cynicism and meancholy prevalent in many songs that are around. (Which isn't to say I disapprove of those viewpoints, because that would be unrealistic, I just feel it's good to have a balance with songs like this.) Nice work, Darren.

I really like this song, the music has a kind of haunting, ghostly quality that reflets the idea of her dead boyfriend and I like the gentleness of it.
