The Distillers – The Hunger Lyrics 21 years ago
It's an amazing song. I'll give it that.

To me it's about not letting go of the memories of a loved one. Powerful song.

This song is a song for me about hope, even through times which are beyond my control. I listen to this every time I'm saddened or depressed, as it has such a fitting mood to it.

To me, this is a question of ones own being.
The person is questioning his life, his ability to do what he wishes with his life. and what his concequences would lead him.

The chorus defines this and goes one further to ask why is he still prepared for a war on a battlefield. Even though he doesn't feel ready for it.

Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics 23 years ago
This song relates to the 'char' thoughts in the album, so if your gonna say it's about cutting or self mutilation, take a good long hard read at the lyric's and come tell me I'm wrong in saying it's not!

The first few lines refere to the 'char' taking drugs to try and get his kick, but all they serve to do is bring back memories of the girl that he has managed to sacrifice for his drug habit. He isn't actually doing the drug taking though. as in the previos song in the album, the 'char' has attempted to take his own life. So the actual events taking place in this song are in his head.
The women in the album that he loves is refered to here as 'my sweatest friend'. He then goes on to tell her that she can have everything he has, which is only gonna amount to his hurt and his pain.

"I wear this crown of shit, upon my liar's chair,
full of broken thoughts, I cannot repair,"

The crown is his kingdom which he's built in his head... All the whilst being on drugs. The broken thoughts part is his realization that his kingdom is based on nothing but false promises and lies. All of which he can't fix.

"beneath the stains of time, the feelings disappear,

To me, this symbolfy's the drugs effects fading, also the 'char' life fading, as he seemed to have attempted to commited suicide in the previos song in the album.

you are someone else, I am still right here"

To me the 'char' is not actually talking to her, but in his mind, he thinks he is. As if he was practicing in front of a mirror. Also a realization of fact that he knows her feelings have changed regards to him...

"if I could start again, a million miles away
I would keep myself, I would find a way"

The last lines in what is an excellent album to listen to, this is probably why people relate to this so well... I have personally been through so much shit that I've changed in ways I would never think possible, and I don't know if I'll be ever able to change myself back to the person I once was, and that person was a more respectible version than the one I currently am.
"If I could could start again", - I would make damned sure not to fall the way I've fallen.
"a million miles away" - Lets face it, who at one stage in their life wouldn't love to have started a new life somewhere that the person wasn't known at all?
"I would keep myself I would find a way " - Which part would you keep? The old 'you' or the current 'you' ???

Now, on to the slashing issue... People who tend to cut or slash themselves whilst listening to this either
a) Do it because they know other people who do it... and think it's cool (*I personally can tell you that it ain't and it only serves to leave marks on your shoulders that make you all the more depressed.*)
b) Relate to this song in a VERY painful way... I know personally a few people who can relate to this song, and the album in painful ways... Cutting, whilst a form of release from pent up anger and greif, is not recommended in the slightest...

Anyways, thats my views... Question them if you must.

Nine Inch Nails – I Do Not Want This Lyrics 23 years ago
At this point in the album, I think the 'char' is battling with either his drug addiction, and in doing so is loosing his love for the person who is trying to help him. as the end off this song dectates, the 'char' wants a life to live, and not wanting to be tied down as he feels like at that moment, hence the 'I want...' part.

A personal top choice song, because I've had been through a low point, and this song perfectly describes my feelings... Even though these feelings were wrong...

Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics 23 years ago
To me, the meaning behind "you get me closer to god" sybolify's the moment of pure love that the 'char' feel's when he has reached his climax during sex with what appears to be just one woman. Because off that, he wants to "fuck her like an animal", meaning he's wanting the sex to be more intense, stronger... Like the kind of kick you get when you take a drug.

Another alternative way off looking at the song would be to think that this is an alternative kick for the char, as during the previous songs in the album, the 'char' has lost faith in religion, and in turn lost faith in everything he beleives in. The only things that seem to hold the 'char' together is Sex, and Drugs... This song being related to the Sexual side...

Just my own opinions on the lyrical meanings...
