Pink – Don't Let Me Get Me Lyrics 23 years ago
ooh bobo192, i dunno about that. i'll have to go and raid my collection. are we talking shoebox style, or your full sized TV packaging? and will those little polystyrene thingies be required? corrugated or non-corrugated cardboard? airholes or not? answers on a stamped-addressed envelope please.

and, in the interests of full disclosure, i spell colour without a 'u' on occasion. but i do reserve the right to be arsey about it when i like!

imaginarymary. deary, deary me.

point the first: the example of my poor language you point out was, in fact, where i quoted pink's lyrics ("can't do nothing right" - see 4th line) so you've inadvertantly done my dirty dirty work for me. congratulations. have a cookie. and point the second: i don't know about you daft americans but in the UK we spell recognisably just like that. back in your box, please.

> this song talkin about a fish?? what r u a freakin moron??

you say that now, but i will see you yet cowering in some dank corner, a testament to futility as you shield yourself from the fishy hordes that dart at your eyes and caress you with their scaled, oily skin. and to those few who recognise the truth and perfect oneness of this song's aquatic subtext - i salute you.

New Found Glory – My Friends Over You Lyrics 23 years ago
even the band's name refers to the subtext GodsPetGerbil so cunningly uncovered. having had his life ruined by too often cavorting with mistress palm and her five lovely daughers, he has discovered a new life free from the shackles of daily frantic self-gratification. his "new found glory" is the return to a normal life for him, out with his mates rather than locked in his room all day, a prisoner of his own sordid desires. no doubt his friends forgave him the funny walk and slightly odd smell, and welcomed him back into a normal life. down with wanking indeed!

Dashboard Confessional – The Good Fight Lyrics 23 years ago
you're not up with the whole arguing thing, and your respect people's opinions... but you're going to argue and ridicule them anyway? you hate people being judgmental... but only when they're being judgemental in a way that doesn't agree with you? it goes both ways y'know. you can't criticise someone for calling a singer an emo-bitch by calling them a fucktard, and still try and keep the moral highground! if you get upset at people not respecting your music, don't get involved. i like this song a lot but people are entitled to slag it off if they wish to.

Dashboard Confessional – Again I Go Unnoticed Lyrics 23 years ago
(afterthought: before someone gets stroppy, that wasn't aimed at the majority of straight edgers. i know that most of you are friendly, tolerant people, and you have my boundless respect for ditching drugs etc. its only the one or two self-righteous rule monkeys that i'm getting at. thankyou.)

Dashboard Confessional – Again I Go Unnoticed Lyrics 23 years ago
ow, i think i just got hit by one of XkannenX's toys, hurled from his cot. i fail to understand why being an anorak-wearing überfan is the only way to appreciate the music. knowing a band's entire back catalogue is vital? i suppose according to your logic we're not allowed to listen to his music unless we have all the 7"s, posters, badges, patches, and a lock of the bloke's pubic hair framed on our wall?

still, it's nice to see you're helping get rid of the image of straight-edgers as self-important whiners. why not concentrate on your own purity and stop pointing fingers at other people.

tis a great song though. although i think sir commenting slag, as per usual, is right on the money. eek?! where's he gone!?

Terry Callier – Love Theme From Spartacus Lyrics 23 years ago
this song was remixed by zero 7, this version is definitely worth a listen. i'm not sure if it's ever been officially released, but you can get a copy off winmx or kazaa. if you like it, go out and buy 'simple things' by zero 7 and 'timepeace' by terry callier. you will not regret it.

i wasn't trashing it! i like this song a lot. not quite as good as this ruined puzzle mind. i was simply pointing out he's a bit high on his own verbosity.

besides, if i hated everything i'd be a goth, and i don't need to point out the consequences of that.

Bad Brains – F.V.K. Lyrics 23 years ago
"the bourgeoisie had better watch out for me"

what's that sound?

Dashboard Confessional – The Good Fight Lyrics 23 years ago
the author, bless his li'l emo heart, suffers from a rare condition, commonly known as "verbal diarrhoea". this song, terribly pretty as it is, could be summed up much more economically in this succinct verse.

oh shite.
you dumped me.
you evil woman!
dash it, and you slagged me off
to all your mates.
my fragile heart is broken.
*sniff*

doesn't have quite the same ring. but using outbidded, denounced, rescinded and championless in the same sentence must be prohibited under some kind of international treaty.

Uncle Kracker – Follow Me Lyrics 23 years ago
i think what the commenting slag is trying to say is: this is a dark dark song, cast in the devil's own forge and infused with death and evil. the winsome singer of this song might seem happy. he might tell you that "everything is alright", and that he'll be "the one to tuck you in at night". may i say - hah! for behind this jaunty rhyme is a subtle yet oh-so-sinister subtext.

mr. kracker is in fact an agent of dark forces we cannot hope to comprehend, hence the opening line, "you don't know how you met me". but need you know this at all? his name says it all; he would like nothing better than to krack you in his kavernous klaws. "i'm not worried 'bout the ring you wear", he pleads, "cause as long as no one knows then nobody can care". oh poor fool! as you can see, your rapid descent into the fiery pits of hell will be a lonely journey. "you're better off if you don't ask why ", he advises, further masking the full horror of his diabolical plans.

beware this man. he will woo you with his flirtatious devil-music, and will scream "follow me" until he has led you to the abyss sir slag so succinctly prophecised. tread with care.

Finally Gone – This One's For You Lyrics 23 years ago
i think this song is probably about fish. specifically the poor bloke's girlfriend being one. "i know you're different", he laments. damn right, she's a fish. "but i don't care anyways", well, full points for open-mindedness. "i know you're changing"... perhaps *into* a fish. maybe she's some kind of half-woman half-fish. kinda like jeff goldblum in the fly, except with fish. "and wait until it's gone". perhaps a sombre reminder of her inherent mortality. after all, one hook in the mouth and his girl is gone forever :(

more evidence for the aquatic bent to this song: "i never liked you anyways". ooh, he's fickle. maybe he's only just got wind of the smell. "you know exactly what you have" - gills, and a tiny little mouth. is that such a crime?! "you're happier than ever": denial? or true happiness at the lot of a humble haddock? "i guess we knew all along". well, lets face it, the constant opening and shutting of the mouth was always a dead giveaway.

i could go on, but i think this proves my point. all in all, i'm pleased that emo songwriters have finally got over their somewhat childish preoccupation with failed relationships and broken hearts, and started to deal with the real issues affecting us. this song is only the tip of the iceberg, new songs from rival schools [of fish], dashboard codfish-inal, jimmy eat whelk, and saves the cray[fish] reflect this exciting new trend. i predict it's gonna make a big splash.

Jesse James – Shoes Lyrics 23 years ago
but of course. for instance, i am currently wearing no shoes, suggesting i am a naked naked man. muahahaha.

i'd like to know what shoes his girlfriend was wearing while he came in her face. frankly i'm a little disturbed at the potential for ruination - YES I SAID RUINATION - of shoes. the fucking stuff stains leather like a bastard, you know. perhaps she could consider taking a break from her shoe fetish whilst indulging her boyfriend, as all them shoes can't come cheap.

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci – Poodle Rockin' Lyrics 23 years ago
the sgt. peppers reference in the second verse refers to the dog-whistle included on the beatle's classic album 'sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band'. the whistle is of such a high frequency that it can't be heard by humans, only dogs. it makes them go a bit nuts apparently. in a song about poodles rocking out the connection is obvious. paul mccartney:

"We're sitting around the studio, and one of the engineers starts talking about wavelengths, wave forms and stuff, kilohertz," McCartney recalls. "I still don't understand these things - I'm completely nontechnical. And as for John, he couldn't even change a plug - he really couldn't, you know. The engineers would be explaining to us what all this stuff was. An ultrasonic sound wave - 'a low one, you can kill people with the low ones.' We were all saying, 'Wow, man. Hey, wow.' 'And the high ones,' he said, 'only dogs can hear it.' We said, 'We gotta have it on! There's going to be one dog and his owner, and I'd just love to be there when his ears prick up.'" Pink – Don't Let Me Get Me Lyrics 23 years ago
what a novel idea of pink to criticise the modern music industry, the very industry which has gained her amounts of cash most people dream of. isn't there just a little irony in slagging off pop music through the medium of pop music? d'oh.

if she's really so upset about vacant pop-music, she's free to go and get a job in a garden centre or something. now, i wonder why stinking-rich fabulously-famous international superstar pink hasn't done that? it's all pretty cynical, even by music biz standards. and yet dressing up a bland pop song as cool and rebellious, when frankly it's anything but, pink sells millions of units, and her evil pop music overlords (who so cruelly oppress and marginalise her! like, eww!) get richer yet. how cunning they are.

to be honest, i find it somewhat worrying that they think we're this stupid. the problem is, we are.

and finally, the anally retentive english teacher in the back of my head has something to say: if she can't do nothing right, couldn't she at least manage to string a sentence together that had recognisably english grammar?

The Divine Comedy – Lucy Lyrics 23 years ago
the lyrics are based one or possibly more poems by william wordsworth. the effect is incredible, and whilst much of this is due to the source material neil hannon still manages to add to the poem. the ending is especially poignant.

Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics 23 years ago
as many have said, such a beautiful song.

incidentally, the title comes from a book written by doug richmond entitled "how to disappear completely and never be found". it explains in some detail how to fake your death and disappear, leaving no trace and never being found. it's a concept that crosses my mind occasionally and isn't without it's appeal. there's an attraction to the idea of walking away from it all and not being missed or remembered, just gone.

Simon and Garfunkel – For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her Lyrics 23 years ago
possibly the most beautiful song ever recorded. it is tinged with such sadness that it hurts.

i believe paul simon said once that the emily of the song isn't a girl he knew, but rather the girl he's been searching for all his life. hence the "whenever i may find her" in the title.
