| Crass – Punk Is Dead Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| *sigh* if you want to argue about "posers", then how come, when the clash and the jam were on major labels and selling thousands of records, crass actually kept it DIY and lived their message. punk had degenerated into a mere fashion statement before you and i were born, yes there ARE underground bands and yes there ARE people out there "keepin' it real", but don't you think any subculture is dead when it starts getting exposed and distorted by the mainstream media? christ, look what happened to "emo". we went from rites of spring and indian summer to jimmy eat world and thursday. "punk" ceases to be reactionary (and interesting) when its absorbed and sanitized by the big media machine. when you can play a "punk" song for your mom and her only reaction is "hmm. catchy", then it's dead. (for the record, i love the clash and i think london calling is an amazing, powerful album, but it sure as hell isn't "punk") i don't like crass, and i'm most definitly not an anarchist, but i respect their message and they make a damn good point with their music (this song in particular) | |

| Crass – Punk Is Dead Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| jessia, where to begin. as much as i don't like crass, they make a valid point with this song that is STILL valid today (for some evidence, look in a fucking mirror) first off, did you even READ the lyrics to the song? its an expression of disgust for the mainstreaming of a supposed "underground" and "revolutionary" movement (this song was released in 1979, btw) now, the clash have been one of my favorite bands since i was 13, but i think there is some validity to crass' distaste for the clash. i mean, here you have an underground band with a devoted following and a "revolutionary" political message signing to a major label, making money a lot of these bands wouldn't dream of, yet still spouting the same message. the whole thing reeked of hypocrisy, not just with the clash, but most of the popular british punk bands of the 70s. the scene became less and less about making a difference and more and more about what cool clothes to buy and what bands were the hippest. and all this was in 1979, punk was already a fashion trend before you were born. punk had already begun to attract mongoloid jocks more concerned with "fucking shit up" in the "pit" than about music (this wasn't perfected until the 80's though...anyone remember warzone? dear god.....) it also started to get infested with pathetic elitists like yourself. bragging about all the cool hip shows they've been to, looking down on the kids who went to see rufio at a poison the well show? where do you get off? poison the well fucking sucks enough, they don't need pretentious fans. i applaud those kids for seeing a band, albeit a shitty one, if they were geniunely passionate about being at a show, geniunely in love with the feeling of the music, not just there to impress everyone with their superiour taste in music (no one cares that you were at a poison the well show, sweety, i wouldnt brag about it.) so what if there were a bunch of 'little fucks" there to see anti-flag? maybe 75% percent of them are just little fashion punks who will grow out of it in 5 years and buy jeep wranglers and drink beer everynight, but if that 25% percent read those anti-flag lyrics, get inspired, maybe get involved politically, maybe start a band, than who the fuck are you to judge what band they see? punk should be about unity, a universal counter-culture, what it DOESN'T need is pathetic pretentious fucks excluding other kids because they don't like the "cool" bands, because they dont have the right patches on their fucking jackets. fuck that. part of the fun of getting into punk is being exposed to new bands. it's not like you just climb out of the womb holding a reversal of man record and wearing a charles bronson backpatch. i think im done for now. | |
| Dashboard Confessional – Screaming Infidelities Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| "music without emotion is like life without feeling" since when does a band have to be classified as "emotional"? shouldn't that just be a given? emotion and passion are inherent to good songwriting, you can't rely on "emotion" as a crutch to back up mediocre songs about high school romance. is joy division less emotional than dashboard confessional? this sappy overproduced clean-cut garbage is just another twist of the knife in the corpse of punk rock, "emo" (as stupid as i think the idea is) actually used to mean something, but once again, the mainstream gets a little taste of the underground and realizes that dashboard can move a lot of units, and the clothing companies realize they can sell a lot of tight sweaters and black rimmed glasses with the right ad campaign, it just becomes another way for companies to shove their product down your throats, all while you're thinking you're "counter-culture" and "different". look what happened to punk years ago. the same thing is happening. jocks are getting pumped up to pennywise, and sorority girls are wearing studded bracelets and humming emo songs and have saves the day posters on their walls. the "underground" is the next huge trend. don't go buy what the magazines feed you. and don't try and argue with these "emo" kids about how mineral is the best band ever and you know more underground bands than anybody, that crap just makes you like an idiot, not intelligent. punk rock should inherently be about passion, not idiots arguing over what octave-chord-playing, tight-pants-wearing, near-sighted band is more "emo". fuck that. its not about elitism. yea, what these kids are swallowing is a pathetic commercialized version of something real, but theyll either hop the next big trend as 99% of these kids tend to do, or theyll actually get interested, start a band, maybe get politically involved in something.....i dunno...im no one to judge, but just realize theres more to underground music than vagrant records and what the media spoon-feeds you. and dont listen to the emo elitists, the morons that say "man you guys dont know real emo go listen to (insert-boring-semi-obscure-indie-rock-band-name-here)" are just as pathetic as the kids with saves the day patches on their messenger bags. keep it real yo. | |
| Against Me! – Pints of Guinness Make You Strong Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
slidious......umm.....maybe you should have read the lyrics to the song....its not about guinness making you strong. they did an interview in heartattack a few issues ago mentioning how awkward it is whenever they announce this song and some idiots raise their beers and are like "yea guinness is awesome hooray". thats not the point of the song. but i agree with you theyre fucking amazing. and alivewhilestilldead, i wasnt trying to start an argument or anything, i just thought you were one of those kids who downloads entire albums of hardcore/punk bands off audiogalaxy and just burns em....i hate those dicks. its one thing burning a cheap trick album or something, but for a band that is out there busting their ass trying to make a difference, selling records is the only way they could possibly break even, or at least not lose that much money. as for websites, they don't have a website. |

| Saetia – Venus And Bacchus Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| i like off minor a lot more than saetia, and hot cross a lot lot more than saetia. i saw saetia and i never understood what all the fuss was about. they were a good band, a very good band, but i never understood why so many kids flip out over them | |
| The Get Up Kids – Regret (New Order cover) Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| so yea.....the get up kids should be shot for covering new order. what the hell were they thinking? eudora is nauseating not so much because it's as bad as all the other get up kids albums, but because they covered some amazing artists and managed to make them sound just like all of the other get up kids schlock. the pixies? DAVID BOWIE? come on kids. | |
| Against Me! – Pints of Guinness Make You Strong Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| against me have got to be one of the most beautiful and sincere things to come out of "punk rock" in years.......god i love this song, it still makes me cry every time i hear it. its pretty refreshing after hearing this pre-fabricated vagrant records style "emotion" that seems to be all the rage these days to find something so geniune and pure without a trace of contrived "emo". dashboard can whine all he wants about his girlfriend, saves the day can use all the clumsy metaphors they want about their girlfriends, but this right here is what rock and roll is all about. simple, sincere and beautiful. oh yea, and the song is about his grandparents. | |
| Bright Eyes – An Interview with Conor Oberst Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| it's not conor. the interview is a joke. end of story. | |
| Dashboard Confessional – Again I Go Unnoticed Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| um, the get up kids, saves the day and dashboard confessional don't really need MTV's help to be "ruined". they were always awful | |
| Saetia – Venus And Bacchus Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| the singer is in hot cross....and a couple other members are in off minor. and both of those bands rock a lot harder than saetia. | |
| Goldfinger – Open Your Eyes Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| please, everyone knows the # 1 way to get famous is to shit-talk MTV. DIY is in, dood. underground rock is the next big thing. anyways.....i think it's nice that goldfinger is putting out some sort of vegan message with their music, even though it is pretty clumsy, it might get a couple kids to seriously think about their lifestyles (and whoever said veganism is a diet...it's a lot more than a hell of a lot more than a diet) and possibly, y'know, read a book and actually do something. but theyre not really doing anything groundbreaking, there have been vegan bands for years. | |
| Elvis Costello – I'm Not Angry Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| like, i think this song is totally weird cuz he says hes not angry but like, the way he sings is totally mad. elvis costellos totally a crazy DOOD. | |

| funny to see this coming from orchid | |
| Goldfinger – Open Your Eyes Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| goldfinger is awful, but anyways, just because someone lists taco bell as their favorite place to eat doesn't mean they aren't vegan....a lot of vegans i know eat at taco bell all the time, and for a while taco bell was using soy meat to save money (this caused a bit of a scandal, god forbid someone finds out theyre eating something healthy instead of fat-laden trash). but whatever, my view of the whole vegan philisophy is, it makes sense, eating meat is wrong, the treatment of animals used to obtain "animal products" is very wrong, and hopefully in 100 years the meat industry will be a thing of the past, but for now it's a little difficult to be completly vegan without indirectly (or directly) supporting companies that sponsor animal cruelty. which brings me back to my first point, goldfinger sucks and that video was an embarassment for an already bad band. someone shoot that bass player. | |
