I'll comment on it. The song means a lot to me cause although I'm not a big Hanson fan the words speak right to my heart. I don't fall in love but I met this guy who made me feel like the song does. I think everyone can relate to it. Good Song |

I alwat's thought it was about a chick with problem's who he liked (obviously a friend) and she can't seem to get over what ever it is that's holding her back from this guy. I.E. a past relationship, a boyfriend any of the above. |

To me the song is about a man who is a christian but is having problems in life and is going to give up and kill himself which is seen as a bad thing by some christians and that the six feet from the edge part is about letting go of it all |

The song to me is about growing up. I think he is telling the listeners of his past as a child and the problems he got from it. I think he is telling the children of today not to give up and that's why the chorus consists of references to children. I think that it has a lot to do with the peer pressure that kids get today and that they should never succumb to it and that they should never give up on themselves or their dreams. |

jaxgrrl is right if you watch the video she becomes like a ghost where she is able to walk through the walls and such. It's a great song nonetheless. One of my top 5 songs! But I don't think I need to voice my opinion everyone has the general idea of it! |

I think that goodcharl is pretty much right on the money. It's more like a girl/guy who had so many problems in life at an early age that they can't get over and how life's experiences mold you to be who you are. I alway's saw it as a girl who was either sexually abused as a child or raped because it seem's that he is in love with her but she cannot let go of this horrid past and he is just trying to be there for her."I saw the dream's you never thought you'd lose get lost along the way." It's almost as if he is saying that she's lost so much already but she is losing more because she is still holding onto the pain. "Scars are souvenirs you never lose , the past is never far did you lose yourself somewhere out there , did you get to be a star Don't it make you sad to know that life is more that who we are you grew up way too fast and now there's nothing to believe and reruns all become our history a tired song keeps playing on a tired radio..." this whole verse is saying how she will never forget the past (hence the scars) and that these experiences made her have to grow up fast. The tired song reference to me is how you know when someone plays a song over and over again because of the lyrics and such (I play this one all the time) emotions that it brings. Anyway the song I never saw as being about orphan's I think the line about the grown up orphans who never knew there names was more like a metaphor for somehow losing contaact with her parents or them disowning her or whatever. It very well could take that stand point I just never saw it that way. This is though one of my top 5 songs of all time so I kinda like letting people decide what it means to them.

I love this song because of the lyrical content and to me the song is about a love that cannot be. I saw a modern day version of Romeo and Juliet(not the movie!) and they played this song and it's a perfect example. IT's like a guy who loves this girl and she loves him back but knows that if they start something it would be wrong. HEnce "I don't want the world to see me 'cause I don't think that they'd understand" part of the song. I love it. It shows the Goo Goo Dolls in a new light cause I remeber when all they did was cuss in their songs. |

I love this song so much I love it when they look at females problems from a male perspective and although I believe (very obviously) that it's about a prostitute that it could be any female with problems that needs that man in life to show her that she is okay nd that she will be fine. |

This is the best song i have ever heard and I love it so much. I think everyone is correct with the interpation of the song. But to add to it I think he is just someone wise beyond there years and because of it see's life and who he is diferently than anyone else. He just want's to be himself and can't because he is stuck playing this part that everyone wants him to play. I love the superman metaphor because superman is someone everyone wants to be like yet if we knew the real superman after he takes off the cape they would see how hard it is to be him. It can also have a lot to do with self discovery when he say's "only a man in a funny red sheet looking for special things inside of me." It's almost as though he doesn't know who he is because he has always been someone everyone looks up to. Once again I love this song it's my favorite song ever!!! |

I think the song is talking about ONLY two peeople but he is talking in 3rd person for part of the song and then he switches into "I am everything you want...." and you see he's been talking about himself the whole time. Since she doesn't know that he is all she wants and needs she doesn't see it as him until the last chorus. The rest is more or less about a girl who is so confused with here life that she can't seem to figure out what it is she wants. |

dmbluvr was totally correct on his INTERPATION of the song. It's a song that has many meanings yet still is so great because of that.A song isn't about the meaning the artist had it's about the meaning his listeners hear. If we try to force our views of the song on someone and keep saying over and over how it's about a business collegue or whatever then the song just won't be as good. |

I honestly have been baffled by the true meaning of this song for a while but to me it's about a girl who although she is very wise with experience yet she becomes naive around those who hurt her. The lines "your mother loves your father cause she's got no where to go" makes me believe she is with a guy who although she loves dearly treats her badly. But honestly this song, athough afavorite of the Goo Goo Doll's baffles me. |

| Dave Matthews Band – The Space Between Lyrics

The song,if you look closely to the words, is about two people whose relationship is socially unacceptable. Like dating between two different ethnicities or two people whose ages are very different or even two homosexual people . For examble the caucasion man and African American woman in the video. Look "The space between what's wrong and right is where you'll find me hiding waiting for you". All of those relationships mentioned above are still looked down apon as WRONG in society and THAT is what the song's about. |
