I think it is about an abusive father. The son is religious, which the father blames on the mother. He beats the mother because of this, and the son blames himself, which is why he thinks he deserves to die. He threatens suicide, but no one takes him seriously--"I don't think you trust in my self righteous suicide". He knows he can't abandon his religion, nor can he allow the abuse to continue...the only escape he sees is suicide...so he "gives in" to his father--"into your hands i commend my spirit", and as he is dying he asks his father why he has forsaken him. I know you system fans are usually pretty insane so go ahead and yell at me. WOOOOO |

it's about revolutions in general, a good example is the french revolution...robespierre = new boss, Louis XVI=old boss...even tho that's not what pete townshend says. he said it's a plea to the audience not to make him the new boss, that you should be your own boss, cuz he's the same as the guy who was on the stage 5 minutes ago...he also said he takes full responsibility for the fact that his generation complained about the state of the world and did nothing to change it...that relates to teenage wasteland in baba o'riley |

i liked acryczak's view...i think it's about how people think that materialism is the way to Heaven, and try to buy their way to paradise...they are saying that's not the way, and our way of thinking is wrong (sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven). They are saying we can feel the right path, but we need to act (your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know). Finally he tells us to resist society's temptations to follow what is true (to be a rock and not to roll).
