Propagandhi – Rock For Sustainable Capitalism Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is about how Capitalism is not going to "save the world". When profit margins and brown-nosing your boss leads to a serious environmental remedy, let me know. In the meantime I will be planting fruit trees in abandoned urban lots and biking to the forgotten alcoves of the city. I guess that won't save the world either. Damn. Oh well, Buy Fair.

Desaparecidos – The Happiest Place on Earth Lyrics 21 years ago
then discuss the lyrics jackass or shut your trap.
your irony is killing me.

i didn't know oberst had this in him, to sing about something more tangible than emotions, or moreover, about his emotions on something tangible. when i read these lyrics i couldn't help but sing along as if i wrote them myself--as in oberst expressed my feeling on "the state of the state" nearly exactly. it's political and social and beautiful without the bad aftertaste of say, an anti-flag song.

reading the lyrics alone...they are slightly cheezy the way they flow and rhyme (not in content), but the way he sings them dismisses any of the awkwardness. i think i will make this song my away message.

Propagandhi – Refusing To Be A Man Lyrics 21 years ago
There is a good book by John Stoltenberg called "Refusing To Be A Man" which I am pretty sure this song is referencing to. It is truly a liberating read--and sexual liberation and truth is something I think every man needs--especially in America.

Strike Anywhere – Blaze Lyrics 21 years ago
the first stanzas of this song are taken from the old radical/anarchist writings of Percy Shelley which goes:
Rise like lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number!
Shake your chains to earth, like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you --
Ye are many, they are few!
-- "Mask of Anarchy"

These lines can also be found in the great book "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn in the last lines of the last page. Read this book and blow your mind!

Strike Anywhere – To The World Lyrics 21 years ago
this song is about uniting against the growing near-inpenetrable but ever-visible new world order. it's a helpless yet hopefull scream from the depths of the underground--home of the true patriots--patriots of the world.

besides exit english, this song also happens to be featured on Fat Wreck's ROCK AGAINST BUSH Vol. 1. A great comp. indeed.

Atom and His Package – Anarchy Means I Litter Lyrics 22 years ago
...anarchy stems from the idea that...
there has never been a government that ever existed (or will ever exist) that did not use force, fear and violence to sustain itself.

thus, if you are an idealist (or just believe that we can work for progression and change our own fate), then anarchy is the ideal we work toward because violence and fear will never bring happiness to all.
OH, and anarchism started waaaaaaaaayy before punk rock...so check out stuff like "emma goldman's mother earth" and legit stuff before wearing your fucking anarchy patch little ignorant american kid.

check out (or spare yourself) some rolling stones magazine a little while back with that band Good Charlotte(tm) sporting a huge painted anarchy sign. i just threw up thinking about it.

vote jerry springer!

Strike Anywhere – Sunset On 32rd Lyrics 23 years ago
Lay of each other mofo's. I'm sure the guys from sXa would love to read all of these negative comments. FUCK YOUR NEGATIVITY--there's a small percentage of people that can appreciate this music and what it stands for--WE DONT NEED STRIFE WITHIN this community. It makes me want to join the majority cuz this negative vibe makes me feel like the underground is no different than the rest.
Damn.the.man...just so you know, ALL (and I mean all...er..almost all) of Stirke Anywhere's music's available on their website www.stirkeanywhere.org. PLEASE just use the free mp3s to sample all the music and then go BUY a record on ebay or a local indie store (though they are FEW in most cities...they're out there)
...and WhiteTid...I bet you listened to Blink 182 or comprable shit like that before, we all did, we all bought corporate bullshit before and that's the only reason why we can see the lies behind it and reject that crap.
My point is: all of us are at different stages in understanding the truth that sXa and other politcal bands got to spit...don't knock someone cus theyre not as "underground" as you.
...until next...ATRC--against the rest till we die
...sorry, i didnt mean for this to be my fuckin journal/diary/etc etc. :()

Lauryn Hill – So Much Things To Say Lyrics 23 years ago
Another deeply motivatin song. the roots are so deep and the rasta references make it so much more.

(i.e. the reference to I'n'I in "I'n'I nah come to fight flesh and blood, but spiritual wickedness in high and low places...the I'n'I refers to the sayin 'I and I' which is an alternative to saying 'you and I'...used basically because we are all equal persons under and part of the same God, Jah.)
Just one example of how a only a few words go so deep.

Lauryn Hill – Mystery Of Iniquity Lyrics 23 years ago
One of the greatest poetic raps ever created. This song says just about everything that needs to be said about the courts and any system in general. If you haven't heard it--download it now! Lauryn speaks the truth and has made a permanent mark on the hip hop scene and music scene in general. Wow. I feel enlightened.
