Well, yeah, Sic Transit Gloria is 'Thus Glory Fades' from Latin... and in the video to this and Yellowcard's Ocean Avenue, I'm pretty sure it's the same director, that just decided to throw it in there... There's a discussion of it over on both bands' forums... there were some ideas of it being a story made up of a few parts, with the lamb linking them, but I'm not sure if I believe that...

The perfect song to complete The Lillywhite Sessions and make them "Busted Stuff"... I loved the Lillywhite Sessions when I heard them last year and this song just adds so much to them and completes the CD... It's a great follow-up to the mellow-ness of Grace is Gone and Bartender...
Plus, I like what gabe_ph is saying... It's just a guy telling a girl that he can't promise her everything, but he will still always be with her... |

This song is just great... I don't think it really matters whether "her hair" means her physical hair or her presence, but it's all the same thing... It's just a song about a guy who really, really, loves a girl and she cheated on him (of which he didn't see coming at all "how did it break?" and "when did your eyes begin to look fake?")... He is extremely lonely and really wishes she were with him... Pretty simple, but I think it's Dashboard Confessional's best song... |

This is by far one of the BEST songs I've heard in a while... Probably Saves The Day's best song... I don't think there's any sarcasm involved... The tone of the song doesn't seem to imply any sarcasm... I think it's just a song for a girlfriend just telling her that he loves her... Being with this girl is the best thing that's ever happened to him and he'll do anything to keep her ("I'll do everything to keep you by my side"). She is the best person he's ever met ("Your Majesty" and "I'll have to walk a thousand miles just to find the ground deserving of your feet") and he will love her no matter what happens, even if she doesn't love him (You could throw me down and walk on me and I'd just look on through my love and through the haze")
This song is so well written, It's so deep and can be interpreted so many ways... It is truly a GREAT song... |

Ok... I don't even know where to start... Chelsea, great job!!! everything you said was right, only its not really MTV that makes bands do what you call "change"... (which I dont seem to see THAT much either... Blink 182? they were 18 then, they're 26 now... obviously theyre gonna change somewhat...) It's the artists decision completely... Sure MTV might have some sort of influence (cuz when an artist hits it big, then they will do everything they can to stay big) but the final decision IS up to the artist.. youve seen bands... too many to name that have been on MTV and have gotten away from it and are back to where they were... Also, I really think we should be happy for Dashboard Confessional... for so many people (including MTV) like a band... then there must be something good in them... MTV doesnt just play any band that comes along... and theres another thing... what is with people and radio? you know... GOOD bands are played on the radio... is there something wrong with being a GOOD band? That seems to be a way that bands are discovered... on the radio...
And yeah... the price of cds doubles when theyre played on MTV... It sux... it really does... but what can you do about it? Youre not gonna stop them from being played on MTV if theyre good... and plus, why would you want to?Theyre finally being recognized for everything theyve worked for... you wanna stop that??? Dont worry... itll fade sooner or later...
And yeah, there are people that dont "deserve" to listen to this music... those that dont understand the deeper meaning of Emo (which is NOT "im pathetic, sleep with me")... there are those (myself included) who actually know the true meaning of this... and those of you who dont understand that (no wait, there are those who try to and cant understand it... so ill say those of you who dont try to understand it) are the ones that dont "deserve" this music... This music is beautiful in its own way... The kind of music that you dont just hear, but actually LISTEN to... deeply...
And just beacuse cuz you dont like the music, doesnt give you a right to come here and bash it (which by the way, shows exactly how much of a life you really have)
Oh and I noticed that no one here seems to be talking about the meaning anymore... As for my interpretation, I think I'll agree with the people near the top with the "your hair, its everywhere" thing... heres where that deep thinking comes in..
But anyway... Dashboard Confessional is a GREAT band... and I thank all of you who have listened to them for a long time OR those of you who just started listening to them (but who have also heard their other stuff and like them as a band not just some song that MTV plays)

I think this song is mainly about change... The man, monkey, and fish all decided to change their life and died for it... The whole brighter on the otherside adds to that idea... What's with this? This song's been out for about a year and still no one has commented? This song is sooo great... Download it/Buy the CD/Do whatever you have to do to hear this song... It's like my new favorite song... Anyway, I think it's about the obvious... Some girl is deserted by someone (possibly her father, or a metaphor for other people, friends, family, etc.) and she's stuck in a stereotype (the story written for the part she has to play), which she has to break (the life-size mirror). In other words, the message is that you have to break away from what people want you to be and go off and do your own thing... |
